That's a Johnny, not a pro. It's best if you don't get them confused.

i would take two things into account for "pro"

Personal skills and attitude/personality.
What does personality have to do with being good at what you do?

:P heh well I said it was the closest to a pro. So maybe a Johnny is being close to a pro? :P

Anyways I think there is a lot of maturity involved in 'being a pro' so I think personality counts.

You don't see <insert professional's name> saying "haha noob I am a pro" :P

Ok then? I had no idea what a johnny was so I added a "?"
Does it really deserve that type of comment though?

If late in a season you are part of the elite 8 in a top 10 guild I would consider you pro. This means you play a lot but at the same time your pretty damn good at it.

I think you are worthy enough to be considered a Pro when you have-
(a) a guild solely devoted to being a fanclub for you with 60+ members in it
(b) when you enter a town saying LFG people go " ZOMFG look its ~~~~~"
(c) when you have a web site solely devoted to answering people's questions about -anything- in the game

^ thats before someone made a character called Soul Divorce

but to stay on topic for that person to say he was a pro..its a understatement...as you see even though you was able to kill him 7+ times he still won because he got you thinking of "why would he think hes a pro, ive killed him 8 times and he does not wana listen to my advices" making YOU the pro since your the cool guy who killed him 8 times AND you have the nerve to telling him how he should go about fighting say u and him cross paths again (even though you had no bad intentions)...you understand what im saying?

recognizing other builds in a second.
i think i'm like halfway there to a pro, but i gained most knowledge thru experience.

ex: seeing a mesmer cast signet of weariness, knowning that they are e-surger, seeing an ele use starburst and knowning their whole build.
it's easy to be a pro in this game though, almost all players use variations of the popular builds (domination mesmer, horns spider mesmer, blessed light monk, etc etc

What makes someone think they're pro?
Go to dictionary.com. Then again, was this post more a rant, or actually an honest question? I don't think you can be "pro" in this game. I haven't exactly busted a gut to get sponsored in it BUT I considered myself "pro" in FPS games for the following reasons:

1) My sponsors paid me a regular income
2) Since I won cups and stuff, I'd say I was "highly skilled".

However, as for the last comment... Supposing everyone else on the league was just bad? That wouldn't make me highly skilled, it would just mean I was lucky everyone else was bad... Maybe a childish argument, but maybe not so...

Highly skilled is hard to define; therefore, I think "pro" or, "professional" is best kept to one who recieves pay... I don't mean, guildwars gold either. Hell, all droks runners would be pro then .

So, as for "pro" in this game. I don't really believe in it.

*edit*

Most of the posts are rubbish here... Like "attitude". I mean, seriously? You honestly believe that nonsense? LoL.

From what I've heard, Jennifer Lopez isn't a nice person in real life... For the sake of argument, assume that to be correct, well - she's a professional... Professional can be in all sorts of things; it mostly all has one thing in common, Money.

People who think they're pro have no life? "Nigguh plz" - I had no life BEFORE I ever considered I was "pro" at a computer game.

When you say, "That's a Johnny," are you refering to one of the psycographic archtypes used to describe the 3 most common mindsets of the Magic: The Gathering playerbase? As in, Timmy, Johnny, and Spike? I'm just curious...

Broadband.

Seriously, even though GW runs brilliant on my 56K and I almost never lag, I seriously can't win in a PvP match. I don't play as much as most people, but when you spend months buying and creating a perfect armor set only to get hammered by a naked monk, I have to say the people with the faster connections have the advantage.
