Finally!!! im broke again!
agk512
finaly, after about 2 weeks of farming and trading and chest running, ive finaly gotten my 15k platemale set and black die for each peice, victos battleaxe and bulwark. when i was making the 220k it took to get it, i started to hate playing guildwars more and more, because all i was doing was pointless spaming in the trade chat, and farming for ectos or weapons. i completely stoped my goal of getting the last .6% of exploration of cantha during that time, and i did absolutly no missions or quests, and was doing no abing(one of my favorite parts of the game). but now that i only have about 8k in storage, i realize that the best experiences ive had during guildwars have been during the periods that i have had absolutly no money at all and have no goals to buy that uber weapon or set of armor.
so what about everybody else, do you like having close to no money at all and not having to worry about getting money, or do you like to make millions of bucks and miss out of a lot of the game aspects.

The irony is that 15k armor w/ Black Dye isn't "uber."
WLlama
I pretty much stock up money but that's mainly because I don't find most of the 'uber' skins all that appealing. I guess maybe when I find something I 'need' I'll sing a different tune but to me, most 15k armors are overembellished (decorwise) for my tastes. I don't really farm to have the cash...just pick it up along the way.
Spirit Of Azrael
Yeah, every Wa/Mo has a set of black fissure. you are teh suck.
Kidding, kidding. It was the same for me when I bought my Sephis and Kurz 15k.
Good job on yours though, I must say this: Sundering Sucks.

I Like to be broke cause when you need something you in a hurry to get money or whatever...im like at 60k now and sometime i buy stuff for nothing
but whatever..when i will have enough maybe ill buy a 15k for my Elementalist...
But whatever ...being broke is nice... you can't buy all those cool things anymore....and that hawt :P lol
anyway if i was rich i would buy every little things i want for nothing..lol and i hate farming....i dont know where to and its all pointless with all those nerf right now....

zinger, i know 15k armors arent that great, i ment saving up for anything of large value. i bought guildwars to avoid the grind and just saving up for all of that stuff was too big of a grind to me, and for the ppl that do have millions of bucks will think that the amount of money that i had to made is close to nothing. usualy what i do is what WLlama does.
Knightsaber Sith
I remember back when I got my first set of 15k armor. I got it from chest farming, but not that pitiful excuse for chest farming they have going on now; I'm talking the old school solo chest runs back before chests needed keys. Anyway after I finish the latest campaign with all my characters, I like to farm a bit to buy all the new skills and a shiny set of 15k for my new character in the next campaign.
Sekkira
It cost you 220k for a set of armour (75k), 5 black dye and victo's battle axe + Bullwark?

Sorry to be negative, but why did you make this post?
Does it add anything to knowledge of mechanics? Does it convey anything that relates to anyone on the forum? Does it suggest an idea? Present facts not otherwise known by the general population?
The answer is no.
Anyhow, blowing all your money on things that have become cliche is nto too wise either, especially when Nightfall is coming and you might want some of the stuff that's there.

edit - and lol @ that picture

Lol to the pic.
Personally I usually have around 100k, its just an average. I'm working on fow armor for my ranger, and just need the chest piece. However, I agree endless farming and spamming in trade sucks. I pushed myself this weekend to spam for over an hour to sell the 20 or so items I had stockpiled Still have a few but sold enough to make me not hate myself for that hour of spamming. Although, its probably that reason why I've had this game 16 months? and still need the chest piece for my Ranger

Farming like that would make me go nuts too.
I can't even pull in an hour of farming before I get bored from it. So to raise money for armor or whatever I just look for skills I want to cap, bonus's I didn't do, Fed-Ex missions I passed over, and areas I never been too. After a while the gold starts to add up as long as I watch my spending I find the goal very reachable.
Thing is I had a bad key habit for a long time, I probably spent a load of gold on just those, and this was before the titles. But then when I did that I had no 15k to go for or special weapons I wanted.
other than that I try to have fun with the game and try to save up at the same time, power farming just isn't for me.

oops, turns out platemail is the worst armor type
-Loki-
You saved 220k gold, and spent it on:
Sub standard warrior armour.
Black dye.
A sundering weapon.
A decent shield.
There's only one thing in there that was actually worth you buying, Victos Bulwark. The rest were quite bad choices.

i love farming.. i hate spending.. all i ever do is farm... missions suck pvp sucks.. but farming is awsome. i guess its all about what you like to do
just gotta farm a wide variety of stuff.. i cant wait for nightfall cause although i have a full plate of farming spots with factions and prophecies.. no self respecting farmer ever refused a good farming spot.

Oh a GW forum
I would have gone with 15k Luxon or something. 15k Platemail really isn't much more impressive than 1.5k... and in most cases either Sentinals or Knight's is a better armor choice.
Plus, black dye just looks dumb on that set.
All just my opinion of course, but I think you wasted your money.

I really don't see what all the flames over Platemail are for. Yes, if you are doing PvP, you should get Glads, but for PvP, Platemail is an good choice for tanking, especially after the Knight/Ascalon armor nerf. The higher AL you have in PvE means the less reliant you are on defensive skills to be able to tank. Also, imho, platemail is the best looking. To me, Kurzick armor looks like a fat batman, and Luxon isn't bad, except for the help that looks like a retarded jelly fished strapped to the face. I should point out however that these judgements are restricted to male warriors.
As for the point the OP made, I can relate a bit, but I did a lot of SF farming for a while back when it was new and had a lot of fun doing so. I think the reason for this was because it was in 5 person groups which made things more interesting than solo farming, so I got burnt out a lot less quickly. Unfortunately now, the only real legitamate way to farm imo is UW/FoW duo or solo runs.

The next time you set this type of goal, you need to take breaks. Do a quest, take a dif char out -- you might get a dye drop, you'll get drops you can merch for the gold. And, you will definitely not burn out so quickly.
But, yes, I do enjoy the periods when I have no material goals to accomplish. I can enjoy the side quests, help other people with their missions, shake my head over the selling prices for greens and golds, and feel no pressure to produce. Enjoy it while it lasts, because eventually you will find a new goal and it will start again.

I remember getting my first 15k armor and how difficult it was. I now have 15k armor for each of my 8 characters. Some with 2 sets of 15k...
When I was broke I was motivated to play the game. When I was rich all I did was try and get richer.
Now that Im rich again I can't wait for Nightfall so I can spend my hard earned gold on my Paragon and Dervish and be poor so I can enjoy the game.
Funny how that works...

No Bashing PvE Platemail...Plate/Dragon/Wyven/Dreadnought (all the 90 +10 vs physcal) are some of the best armors for Warriors there.
Its uses are general where alot of their armor is for speciality use only (like Sentinals in builds with 13 or more str).
Where armors like that Sentinels are better in specifically cited cases, Platemail can be globally used without much usage loss. If you cant afford to buy several sets of armor (each for specific builds and regions) then Platemail is the best choice of armor here. Glads ties you into Energy heavier builds at the lose of extra tanking potential, Sentinels ties you into having 13 str, knights is only effective vs physical attacking enemies, etc.

I set goals that are not money driven.
If you are short of money go mapping or get your protector titles. This way you will have money for your next goal.
I'm at 176/180 elites skills and have spent almost 180K getting there.
On the other hand..I pretty much find the money for my next cap on the previous one and usually a little extra for a key or two. I have 2.7 million experience and ony 6k gold in my pocket.

I don't get why many of you feel that you should comment on how bad platemail is/looks, especially dyed black. Besides, who said that you only have to have one set of armor. Anyway, everyone has a preference and that was his. He worked hard for it, give him some credit or don't say anything (unless it is on the actual topic of liking to be broke). *grumbles and goes back in hole*
gene terrodon
Platemail armor is pretty nice imo.
This thread is not about your opinions on the armor or weapons, but your feelings after reaching an in-game goal you set for yourself, your journey there and your feelings afterwards. People are so quick to flame, discourage and be negative whenever someone likes something they don't. Just because the majority of people like/say something doesn't make it necessarily true.
Remember, it once was common knowledge that the world was flat and we see how that has panned out.
Back on point, I worked to get in-game items, specifically Vera. I farmed EG until my eyes bled until I got one to drop. While I made a nice amount of money, the satisfaction of me getting the item I wanted was pretty nice. Since, my playing time has tailed off quite a bit as I feel I don't have much to play for. In short, after reaching my goal, I lost interest. Hopefully Nightfall will bring me back.
edit: I don't remember the OP asking for any opinions on HIS/HER preferred set.

Grats dude , and dont get me wrong I rather see a warrior with platemail armor then those warriors with glads and fow helm, if you cant afford the whole set dont look like a wannabe.
And it is right, when you are rich you dont really have nothing to do when you are poor you're motivated to farm and do quests and stuff, atleast thats the way i feel, blah -_-

for all of the flaming going on, here is why i got the 15k platemale
1. i had a set of knights armor, which looked like a piece of crap imo
2. i think that 15k platemale is the best looking armor for warior in both campains
3. i didnt want a huge pig face on the front of my armor
4. its the best overall for tanking
and i got the black die for it because 9/10 of ppl with the set die it silver, and black looks awsome on it with the victos bulwark and axe.

Time for my war stories... so pull up a chair, grab something comfortable and sit and listen!
I used to farm like mad doing chest runs, green farming, and even FoW and UW. I got over around 150k once (that was like 8 months ago) before i started my spending streak. I have to say this for almost all the players out there. Once you get gold, you'll use it not matter if you are in need of something or not. Like for me, i brought different weapons (swords, daggers, bows..etc) Just recently, i sold some of my items and with help from friends, gotten two 15k armors for my warrior (Gladiator, and Kurzick) and one set for my mesmer (Noble). Basically, the point i'm trying to make is that you can be rich in this game. But in matter of minutes, you'll be poor again. Just like in real life...

yeah once I have money I spend it. I have some very nice swords and axes for my warrior, some rare skins 15^50 bows for my ranger, but I only play my monk, I don't even enjoy playing a warrior or ranger. Still, If I see a nice weapon skin for sale for a warrior/ranger, I buy it.
I have 180k in storage now, and I want to spend it. I played a lot for it, now I want to enjoy it :P

Platemail is very underappreciated. I say ignore the naysayers and enjoy your armor. Glads is only important if you will be Shocking/Expel Hexing a lot (i.e., PvP), but in PvE high armor is much more useful than high energy.
Now you need to find yourself a better axe than VBA. I recommend Wing's Axe because the zealous mod will take care of energy issues with Platemail, and also because its skin is kind of neat (IMO).

I find when I'm working towards a goal, it seems to take me ten times longer to get what I want. I hate that.

man...how do you ppl get all this $$? I've been struggling to get enough $$ and materials for Canthan Armor from Kaineng Center. I want the tunic with the eyeball on it and have most of the materials for it. Sadly the materials have cost me 4x what the armor does. *lol* I've been lucky and have been getting a ton of Bone drops. I "farm" mainly because I'm trying to go for cartographer and because I'm having a hard time beating a few missions. I don't make much $$ from it though. Not even in Cantha.
Carbuncle
I think that all of the armor serve their purposes (some more than others) as for me, what kept me coming back for a while was the farming. My goal was to get my first set of FoW armor. Which was achieved in about a month of farming on and off. Sure, it gets repetetive, but I like to sometimes switch it up a bit and chest run, etc... Although, all of those things are again, repetetive. I guess if you want something bad enough you will do whatever it takes to get it. Also, grats on your 15k
