Guild Wars Nightfall : Linear?
Sujoy
Ok I have read many posts made by members of GWG. Everyone has their own opinions. Well I wanted to make a thread to my own, where my point of view would be put on emphasis. Here is goes :
Well yes, I, like many others, think that we will be able to run from towns(aka skip missions) but A-Net is one step ahead. One may think that running will make life easier, but little though we know, A-Net is far clever. This is what they did : you can run to mission and outposts BUT to actually do a mission you must acquire the previous quest given to you at the end of the previous mission, so wherever you are, you must do the missions u left behind before advancing in teh storyline. This is what I have retained from my WPE experience. So yes, Nightfall will be a linear campaign.
Now please fellow GW players, join in this discussion and share your thoughts and be open to others comments, and please remember, I am great*

ofcourse when i have done all the same things with my 7 toons + 2 new ones in nf i will curse the system....

The system seemed fine to me; although the gates like in Factions would've been fine as well.
You lie!!

any way they choose to do it is fine with me. there's always the trip to tyria and burning through the desert for a quick few levels if nothing else so as long as there's a boat, there's easy prophecies-style leveling.
i'm not usually into quests that don't give skills but during the little weekend thing i kinda had fun doing all quests so the quests must be more interesting or the heroes are fun to play around with.

I have actually been hoping for exactly this format, where you *could* be run from town to town, but to actually DO any mission, you MUST have done all preceeding missions.
I would like to also add in one other thing that I would like to see incorpoated into this:
The final area of the game, where the last mission [or few missions] take(s) place will be separated from the other areas physically, so that to get there at all, you MUST complete the preceeding missions. This area does not need to be big, but would include special bosses/items or [better still] the access portal to the equivalent to the Elite missions. This way, people will be able to get runs all over the place [making many players and runners happy], but would still reserve special perks for those who actually play through the Story-line! Think of it like Proph, if they'd have put the entrance to Sorrow's Furnace on the Ring of Fire Islands [only make it more extensive than SF].
Well, that's my 2cents.

I skipped the 2nd mission since i didn't know where the town was in the preview event. I like fighting biger monsters so i don't have to deal with the little guys.

I'm all for linear if it means people have to make some attempt at playing the game. Sure, it gets monotonous after your umpteenth char but you can always make it more interesting by using a wacked out skill bar.

What was so un-linear about Prophecies?
Just because you can get a run from Ascalon to Droknar's Forge for free (guild) or pay for a run doesn't make the game's story any less linear.
My 2 cents.
PS. I am greater. /end sarcasm

Linear meaning u do every Mission according to the storyline. Not be level 2 get a run to Sanctum Cay, go to Desert, get ascended, go from Droks to THK and then find urself in Ring of Fire.

Old. Why is this topic being brought up again?
