Where exactly is the group going wrong? There are a few parts where the typical pug will fail at.

When in doubt though, go with a full hench team.

There are two main ways to finish TkH:
- Camp at the king
- Split team at gates (4/4)

You should decide which you want to play before you enter the mission

When you have a team with not much experience, i'd go for the camping option.
It's also possible to hench the mission this way.
When you camp, make sure noone leaves the king.

When camping, try getting:
- Minion master (for bodyblocking)
- Trapper (that could be you ), perhaps even 2
- 2 monks (or a monk and Rit Lord)

And the usual W's, Ele's and other classes.
I think a good domination mesmer also has great value here.

I won't give advice on split, that's up to you to find out.

I'd like to help you out, but cannot play anymore today.
Just let me know if you have finished the mission today.
If not, I'll see of I can help you out tomorrow or in the weekend.
Also depends a bit on your timezone.

Take henchmen. Me and a friend do the mission easily with henchmen. Just us as Warriors and then everything else. Take everything slow and camp at the king.

THE CANUCK MONKS (TCM)

W/R

the_jos is correct. Split or camp.

The splitting can be done this way:

Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Elementalist = Group 1 (West gate)
Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Necromancer = Group 2 (East gate)

You can sub Ranger for Mesmer or Assassin.
You can sub Monk for Ritualist

If you only have 1 warrior, then make that 1 warrior go to group 1. Necromancer must be MM and use undead to tank as Warrior.

I've done this many times. I've done it as a Ritualist and our group was:

Warrior, Ranger, Elementalist, Assassin, Monk = Group 2
Ritualist (me), MM, and Warrior = Group 1

We lit the becons with the torches, explored every area in the mission and beat the monsters with great ease. Sadly, we encountered a bug and we didn't get the bonus. Only mission was completed.

I'm only on Friday nights, Saturday nights, and Sunday evenings. Add me to your friend's list if you haven't beaten THK by then. I'll be using one of my 6 characters, so if you PM me (Dargoth Alfazul) I hear you (regardless of which character I use).

Good luck.

let the jade and mantle battle it out....one or two may come your way but are easily disbatched.....there will only be a few left that henchies can take out pretty easily too.....but you need to wait for the groups to come in, dont argo....wait it out. (did this with a bunch of my characters and 1 guildee & henchies)

You'll need at least one speed booster if you hench the bonus though. run to first torch and light beacon, drop torch, run to second, grab, light. Theres a time limit after which the bonus won't activate. Check out the wiki guide to The THK Bonus

Ahh, what a fun/challenging/frustrating/impossible mission with a PuG. If you are really having that much trouble with a PuG, go with hechies all the way. My guess is that you are so frustrated at this point that it would only make it worse to keep trying with a PuG (not that it cannot be done in a PuG, it can).

First question - Are you infused? if so, sorry you are having so much trouble. if not, get infused (Iron Mines) and then come back and try again

Snipious Max is right though, it will be MUCH EASIER if you light the beacons and do the bonus also, BUT after you light them go back to the king and just hang out while the Jade clean up about 5 groups of giants for you...After that, here are some general tips

-Make sure you kill the squishies first and bosses last. My usual killing order goes something like this
First anything attacking the King, then:
--Mursaat Eles
--Mursaat Necros
--White Mantle Squishies and Rangers (no particular order)
--Monk boss (if it spawns) it is easy to kill the squishies will the monk boss is alive but more difficult to kill the rangers and warriors so that is why it is listed here
--Jade bows
--Jade armors
--White mantle justicars (they are after jade because the Jade do more damage and go down faster)
--Any remaining bosses
-Don't try to pick up drops until the whole thing is over (you have time to do it before talking with the king at the end).
-I prefer binging some kind of interrupt for Mursaat Ele's Chain lightning as it is a big chunk of damage that hits almost half your team
-

I would suggest that if you do want to do it with a PuG that you should be the leader and you should tell everyone, when they are accepted into the group, that you are going to camp the king. With 8 people, who don't know each other and are probably just as frustrated as you are, it will be less confusing to have everyone doing the same thing. That way you don't end up with 6 on one side and 1 on the other and one person running in circles...Also, in a PuG don't light the beacons because I have found that it just makes everyone freak out and then confusion sets in (for some reason it is very difficult to convince people that it will make the mission easier). If you can convince them it will be easier before you leave the outpost it could work, but don't just go and light them without telling anyone and don't tell them just as you get to the keep, it'll just make things worse (and maybe get you a few ragequitters).

EDIT:

You DO NOT need a speed boost to hench the bonus. You can stand around for 10-20 seconds and still make it. There is a time limit but you can easily make it by just running past the catapults to one beacon, lighting it, dropping the torch, running across the open floor to the other, and lighting it.

Also depends a bit on your timezone. In my opinion splitting the team with a pug can cause confusion. Its easiest to just camp the king for most teams. Just make sure that you're getting the aggro before the king. Trappers work wonders in THK. Though MMs while they are in the first part of the mission with corpses handy can be useful. In the second part there are very few corpses when you need them. So build your team around what you think is best for camping a small area.

Don't worry about not able to finish THK. The first character I had (Ranger as well) took 21 tries to get it done. The first 20 were with PUGs, and when I finally tried henchies, I got it on the first try! Don't give up.

find a bonus group. my first try with my monk i joined a bonus group and i beat it.
i had tried it about 15 times with my war, finnally joined a bonus group and beat it.
with my mesmer, i beat it about the second time, no bonus. we had a good team though, and i was running degen and i was good at degening the enemies pretty quickly, so we had weaker enemies.
all of the groups were pugs

CAMP. First light the beacons and stay with the King. This will get boring while waiting, but you can get the mission and bonus, no fuss - no muss. The first 3 waves usually kill each other off, then only 1 or 2 per wave until near the end. I did this with my E/Me, a guildie W/R, Alesia, Lina, the ranger, necro, another caster and 1 melee. You won't have to worry too much about the King dieing this way. He does fight some, but he will retreat when you do. Then we cleared the fog before talking to the King.

I had similar problem with my Sin. Just take henchman, take it slow till you reach the fort so they can regen energy. Once you are in the fort hold down ctrl to see from where mobs will come and just use catapults to kill them. You will get most of them that way. The rest is easy.

I'd suggest bringing henchmen, take it slow, take the bonus, call targets, and camp the king.

I wouldn't suggest using the cat's if you are bringing henchmen. Just stick close to the king.

My advice is camp the King, since your group is having a lot of problems splitting forces is not the way to go IMHO (Ive done both ways numerous times)

Camp the king and trap the heck out of the stairs (or the entrances if you have enough time to go down trap and get back up before they get to you.)

having your trappers know how to combat trap is helpful as well after they go thru the traps the first time and the effect wares off. They should be able to pop into battle and trap again so the bosses get the effect a second time if needed. "Oath Shot" is a real handy elite that rewinds your skills so you avoid the long timers on traps. Ive used it several times combat trapping in THK.

I did this with a random group of 4 warior 2 monks and 2 necros. I dont know the warriors builds or the monks but one necro was a MM (that was me) and the other was a blood spiker(thats right a blood spiker) we got through and camped at the king. we had only like 2 deaths the whole time.(not including minions of course). this was probly the luckiest groups I've ever been in.

Just finished THK at noon, both Bonus and Mission. Hardly any challenge at all, everyone is bored and kept saying "When is this gonna end?". Here is the team build (not by design, just pick up whatever there were. However, all 5 human players are pretty good, including myself, of course).

2 Warriors (good tanks and also does damage)
1 Ele (typical echo/fire nuker)
1 Ranger (Barrage/Pet)
1 Monk (Healing light build)
2 Monk Heros (Woh and other healing build)
1 MM hero (olias, Lvl 26 Flesh Golem)

We just brew through the first part, hardly anyone getting below 75% of the health and the MM kept a good supply of 10 mininons all the time. This made my job really bored, I end up healing the other Monk hero since he was with the warrior and stayed at frond line.

Then we kind of camping around the king, with one warrior missing for a good part of the time because he was finding the beacons to light. The other warrior (with his monk hero) likes to run out to the gate and I had to keep reminding him to come back. The bone horrors and Flesh Golem pretty much kept Jade and Mussat at bay so the Ranger and Ele can barrage and nuke them. Anyway, not many of them going through to us.

The only risk came at one point that every one else were running to west gate and left only me and my MM, Monk Hero with King. The king almost got killed when I kind of lagging for a few seconds.

Anyway, what a difference for this mission. I remembered that my Necro and my Ranger had to try so many times on this mission about a year ago. I guessed that PPL are getting good at this game now, considering all the farmings we had done in sorrow's furnance.

My tactic for THK, it depends like all tactics off course on ppl listening.

You need 2 ele's (or barrage ranger) a MM (with self healing skills if you cant get two monks/rt healers), 2 monks/rt healers, at least one warrior and the rest to fill in yourself

Have 2 run for the beacons at the start.

split 4/4 put the 2 ele's (or ranger) at the catapults and have them constantly fire them they dont come down ever. when the remaining enemies are closing in on the gate they can nuke them from above. In the meanwhile have the MM (and one monk)guard one gate while the rest kill of the enemies at the other gate. When they are finished rush to the MM aid.

The MM leaves for the other gate to block it and you just repeat this till the end switching between gates.

Use the catapults they are not there for nothing, it can kill half the aproaching enemies easily and weaken the bosses greatly and if your lucky even kill them.

If your not comfortable with only one MM gaurding one gate designate one warrior or ranger to be "flying support" between gates rushing to aid when called for. I f you have 2 monks make one monk the "flying support" give extra healing on wich side needed.

If ppl listen and dont run out of the gates in pursuit of enemies this works 9 out of 10 times.

I have 'nt tried this since the major update on monster ai but i reckon it should still work. I 'm going to try it with heroes & hench one of these days. should make it easier i think, set them to guard at one gate while you take the "normal" hench to the other gate.

Well i also had been having problems getting THK for my new monk char.
Last 2 nights i had been trying, in PUGS, and have to say i was amazed at how bad most players actually were.

I tried it 12 times in 2 nights and gave up in disgust, until i read this thread.

Rangers-Play like warriors
Eles- Play like warriors
Necros - Play like warriors
see a pattern forming here?
Warriors-Fight seperately, agro everything in sight, fight those they dont have to, and my biggest beef with them, they refuse to wait after they have agroed everything in sight for you to regen.
Instead they are rushing off the next battle.

I am quite new to monking, and mainly made a monk for 2 reasons.
Want to get into some UW and FOW farming later when i am a more capable monk and as my main char is a wammo, wanted to learn more about monk skills.

I will be getting into pvp and gvg later, as pve doesnt really do it for me tbh, apart from farming, but for the time being need to be in parties to progress through the game.

Anyways, after reading this thread, and seeing where we were going wrong in PUGS, i decided to do THK with henchies only.
It was very easy tbh, i was actually surprised how easy it was, after the nights of pain and anghuish i went through with PUGS.

I am posting this in the hope some of those people in unsucsessful PUGS can try missions/quests with henchies only and also that some of those that are ruining the experience for others, learn something.

Thanks to all for the above posts as they gave me the confidence to do it henchie style and took away my RAGE...
