PvE: Solo Artist, Quester, Chest Runner, Groupie or Explorer. Where do you Fit in?
Knight of Saitin
Hello to all that read this thread,
Lemme just start off by saying, this thread was made strictly for community awareness in GW (and a little because im bored atm :P). Feel free to add your own thoughts and comments, positive or negative, all are welcome here.
We all have a job in the GW community. Positions include, solo artist, town or chest runner, faction farmer, groupie, explorer, or even just as a regular RPG and playing the game through. Everyone has an affect on the community in some way. Farmers depict the market for item sales and cash flow, where as groupies, questies and explorers found the basis for what PvE was made for.
My question to you all is; Where do you fit in in our society? What is your job and how do you affect the economy?
Im mainly a solo artist and farmer, but also like exploring and the odd group activity. I know alot about the market and what items are worth to the public. I am also a distributor. Someone that makes a difference to the prices of items that hit the market.
This thread is my perspective on the game I love. If you have a different perspective or agree with some of the things I have to say, lemme know. This thread is for people that care about the community and not for those who just want to find a thread they can flame on. So i only have one rule: NO FLAMERS, because this is supposed to be fun
Where do you fit?
- Quester/Missionier
- Solo Artist (a master of solo builds)
- Chest Runner/Town Runner
- Groupie
- Explorer
- Treasure Hunter
- Mercinary for Hire/Tips (includes Power lvl'er etc...)
- Faction Farmer
- Outpost Rat (Hangs out and spamms emotes)
- Skill Hunter
- Title Chaser
- Market Player (buys low, sells high)
etc..........the list goes on. I'll add more if I thik some.
Please come up with your own. This is where you can find out where you fit in
SIDE TOPIC:
As a side topic, I would like to ask you all; What could Arena Net add to the game to make it more fun or diverse?
For example, the addition of the locked chests created a mass amounts of chest runners, or fun weekends of doubling treasures etc.....
What else do you think they could add to create another element to the game that would be fun?

I'm a hobo.

It really depends. I'm a mix of a PuGer, a Solo'er, and a Quester. I do missions with PuGs on all of my characters - most have been stressful but I've met a few cool people through doing that. I farm solo on my Warrior, and I quest my brains out on my male Mesmer.
Ajoo
I'm mainly an RPG'er. I like working on my characters's armor, skills, titles, etc...
Appart from that I'm also kind of a solo artist. I have 1 char of each profession and can play almost any solo build and make up new ones for a specific need. I like to farm myself the items i use cause i just feel better knowing i farmed them alone.
I am not a market player. I really don't like to waste my time with this even though I like economics and understand quite well the market. I just don't like to waste my time buying and selling.
When i'm bored or lacking an objective i just go play HA or RA

I'm a solo chest runner, mostly in fow and ice flow. formerly explorer but currently out of work as already have both 100% titles. when im not chest running i usually just help out somewhere such as bond in dunes of despair.
so pretty much my job is to make large amounts of money at a time and live off of that until i get another high cash back item, playing the economy and getting my karma back up by helping a few people.

Pver is my thing. I like questing and doing missions more than anything.
I dont have the patience for the pvp team build up and the wasted time of trying to get tjust the right group together.
I like helping if someone needs help and I learned to say as little as possible when in pugs 'cause there are a lot of warped people out there.
I hate the constant weilding weapon show off and just enjoy the game for the fun of gaming.

Aside from the hobo comment :P Good posts so far.
Ajoo- Im alot like you (aside from the market playing) Finding skills that complimet each other, new builds ,titles and armor.
Nivryx- I used to do alot of chest running, it's good money. Your inventory is always full, but it's a good way to make alot of cash if you have some investment money for keys.
Hades- I find PvP boring myself. Unless you win alot of rounds in a row, your always stuck looking to fit into a group.
Good stuff.....keep'em comin'

Oh a GW forum
Well, considering I've farmed about 1m, have 96.6 exploration (for tyria) and am heading toward the 3rd chest running title, I'd say I'm a an exploring chest running farmer.

I am a groupie, usually prefer big group fow, questing is fun as long as there are good ppl in the party.
I like my avatar and keep it unique, currently I am still slowly unlocking skills for both chapters, and after that I am going to wipe them all and start over.

I'm not rich and I'll never be!
I cannot play alone, I don't like farming I tried and it's too intense for me, cannot keep up on my skills and after a while it's boring.
I'm a real PvE player, I like to do all quests and missions, exploring possibly with guildies. I like to help too.
GvG and PvP are too fast and confusing and don't give me any pleasure but only frustration.
I like to wander around and enjoy the surrounding, the game has so many nice/beautiful places.
I don't care about the obsidian armour or whatever it's called! The 15K is my best to get, especially if I can get all the materials otherwise the 1.5K will do.
But most of all I like to play the game in full, I have taken 8 characters to the, almost, end of the game. I have still the Titan Quests ........ but is so very hard to find players!!

I'm the guy who makes out with henchies....
My job is to make sure henchies aren't neglected. Consequently, my characters are on VERY good terms with them, some on better terms than others.
No, that doesn't make me anti-social, I still prefer people for missions over henchies and once in a while, will actually specifically look at doing missions because I'm sick of playing alone.

Solo Artist/Quester/Explorer. I love finding new places!! I wish there was a title for henching. *lol* I've found 90% of the places by walking around. In fact I haven't completed any of the Jungle missions and have gotten as far as Bloodstone Fen.

uh wheres the option for PLAYER? i dont think anyone does ONE thing only specificly.... seriously.
what i do? play everything, beat it all, and pimp out my characters. my fav armor choice is always in sight, because i have money, and lots of it from many different things -including farming.
i guess my main mission is for cool armor to everyone i create, generally. anyone wana see me mesmer? just made and got final armors :P
too bad, you have no choice in the matter, i wanna show off my sense of style.

My style is to make one character and play him almost solely. The character is me and I am the character. I stick with one until I can't stand him anymore. Not necesarily do 100% everything possible in the game, but atleast finish a given compaign plus quite a bit extra. I so far have only done this with my ranger in prof and factions. I started a necro to play lots, but even though he has done MM and SS builds tons, he still hasn't gotten around to finishing either prof or factions. Prof is first on the list for him. He was born there after all. He only traveled to factions briefly after ascension to cap flesh golem. My main character, the ranger, also enjoys solo exploring/ running/ henching his way all around tyria and parts of factions. His favorite place to solo is definitely Kryta. Once I complete profecies with the necro, it will be time to try a melee class in nightfall. Possibly the dervish, but most likely the classic warrior.
Slainster
Im the explorer type, I love seen those hidden treasures tucked away in the furtherest corners of the map.

when I pve... farm. hench to get to farming places. Faction Farm so I can get rank2 kur title.. umm..
yeah. but mainly PvP.. and yeah. I don't play the market because... as easy as it would be I don't play games to bore myself to death.. collecting gold by challenging myself with killing mobs > ripping nubs off.

Good stuff people, you don't just have to stick to my list of job types. Make your own up.
Alot of different styles of players out there. Thats what makes this a community. No ones the same. It seems to me, what people like to do in real life, is what they like to do in game.
I think most people have that little bit of an explorer in them. Theres nothing like heading off into the unknown and finding rare treasures and beautiful land scape.
Keep'em coming everyone I want this thread FULL of posts

Walking Wikipedia.
Somewhere back i must have answered a few questions too much. Now everyone asks me about stuff in GuildWars. Which boss has what kind of weapon and skill, where they find, how to solo/duo farm him. How much damage spell xyz does at xx Attribute etc etc...
The freaky thing is i know 95% of the answers without having to look them up :/

I guess on the PvE side I'm half and half between a solo explorer/quester/farmer and a really sociable group person. Mainly because our guild is spread out over time zones, so I will do stuff by myself until there are a lot of people on, then maybe help out/get through 5 or so missions in a row. Or a FoW or Tombs run. I love playing with 7 good people where it all goes like clockwork. In terms of my solo stuff, I am a Title-Chaser, and a Hoarder.

I am a quester. I quest with henchies. I try to do most things with henchies. I guess you can say that I am a bit of a loner. But since my main character now is a mesmer (and I love playing a mesmer) its hard for me to get anything done without henchies. I love Alessia best and I think Erys Vasburg is the most skilled mesmer out there. I sometimes talk to them... and they have interesting things to say. There are times when I do feel desperate for human contact albeit in a game setting because GW has practically robbed me of any social life that I used to have. My mesmer is me. Henchies are my friends, until a kind soul would accept me in their party.
Come to think of it, this is kinda sad :P

I'm a farming chest running explorer as well. But add Title Hound to that.

I'm the same as Two Aprils, I guess: quests, missions, exploring, either solo or in groups. I don't do farming or chestrunning or any stuff of the sort. oh, and my grand objective is to have one primary char of each profession with the protector title appropriate to their respective homeland, plus all quests in that continent completed. 6 almost done, 2 to go, hehe (4 to go when NF is out).
Alleji
Farmer, mostly... I guess. I like seeing title bars fill up and I like shiny things, mostly to show off in PvP when others are using fugly PvP armor.
Secondary would be "solo artist", since 95% of the PvE I do, I do with henches. Henches don't take time to assemble and can do the job almost anywhere in the game.
I haven't found PvE for the sake of PvE interesting since prophecies and for a brief time, exploring parts of Cantha. I absolutely hated Canthan missions and locked gates, so even if you beat me with a stick, I wouldn't go back to doing missions in Kaineng.
