Heyo,
I just purchased the game, and waiting for the delivery. There are two characters I would like to roll, a Fire Elementalist and an Assassin.
I've been messing with the character creator, and think I may have found a decent build. I think it can do decent damage, and should have hopefully no energy problems. Here are the skills:
Unsuspecting Strike, Black Lotus Strike, Critical Strike, Siphon Strength, Expose Defenses, Dark Prison, Return, and Ressurection Signet.
The plan is to jump in on a fresh target, hex them up to get some good damage in, meanwhile getting energy back through black lotus strike. Then return when done/to escape. Somewhat like rogues in DAoC, stealth attack, weaken with poison, finish up and get the heck out.
I was thinking of replacing Explose Defenses with Iron Palm, as an alternative opener to use with the hexes I would carry. Any thoughts on my plan would be appreciated, thank you.
New to the game..

I don't think you can't go wrong with that, however....( this is my style, don't feel obliged, and don't flame me for flaming the OP, 'cause I won't )
I would make your connection to the dual attack as short as possible.
Just hex with siphon strength, then BLS, then Twisting Fangs...( for 20% more damage, if you put it that way )
Offcourse, it has a 20 second downtime on BLS.
Try finding other ways of decreasing combo's.

Well, it's always best to think of something and give it a go yourself. That way, you get a good idea of how well it works for you, rather than just be told.
Secondly, assassin makes for a difficult starter class. Having to keep an eye on pretty much everything can be tricky if you're unclear on something. Not to mention that even with a full year's experience, I still died quite a few times whilst getting used to how to play. This isn't telling you not to, just don't get frustrated if it's hard.
Firstly, I'm going to assume this is a PvE build, for which Dark Prison's extra effect won't be helpful, as your target won't move away from you. Secondly, Black Lotus Strike has a recharge of 20s, during which time you'll be unable to pull off Critical Strikes (recharge of 6s).
Personally, if I were to make some suggestions as to altering that build without changing everything, I'd switch out Dark Prison, and switch in a different offhand attack with a quick recharge, probably Wild Blow. That way, you can hex the target, land Unsuspecting, then Wild Blow, Then Critical strike, then wait for Crit Strike to recharge, then Black lotus, then Crit Strike again. Return out if things get tricky.

I'm not sure if I would be interested in PvE. I don't know if I will like leveling in this game, as I prefer PvP in most games. I see that BLS does have a long recharge. The only Wild Blow that I see is a Warrior skill, would it count as an offhand attack, or do you mean Wild Strike?
I just chose BLS because it was the only offhand in critical strikes, and gave mana. I think I will just try removing Iron Palm, and having Unsuspecting Strike->?->Crit->JLS->Crit.

See the problem is your taking 2 combo styles and putting it together which limits its effectiveness.
Unexpecting are both fast recharging skills used in more of do tons of quick combos style build . Going unexpecting-->wild strike--->Critical strike would be more be much better.
If you like the black lotus strike consider a build which helps it recharge faster as its recharge time hurts. Its better suited to an assassins promise build or floursih based build.
