Being new to GW is it reccomended or a must that I begin from the first GW installment?

Or is it possible to start GW from nightfall without and experience with any of the past games?

You will be able to start with Nightfall. That is where ALL of the people will be. It will be very difficult to find a group elsewhere. Sure, many people (like me) don't rush out to buy the next chapter at full price, but most do and it will leave the two old games with thin populations.

Definitely start fromn the new chapter.

I would say that after seeing the preview weekend from Nightfall you will be okay starting there (in Nightfall). Eventually, if you enjoy the game, I would recomend getting at least the first chapter as it will have "core" skills in it that you may want/need in the future. Then look at maybe getting Factions after that.

It depends on you.

There will still be *plenty* of people in the original game (Prophecies), and you'll definitely have a lot more freedom in it than the newer installments.

The only advantage Nightfall will give you is that it's new to everyone. New items, new areas, new character classes, etc.

However, Nightfall will restrict you to picking only two character classes to play: Dervish or Paragon. Factions, and you'll be limited to Assassin or Ritualist. In Prophecies you'll be able to pick Warrior, Ranger, Elementalist, Necromancer, Mesmer or Monk. It'll probably be cheaper than Nightfall, and if Factions was any indication (and you care about PvE), there's a bigger map, more to explore, more to do, and a larger overall story arc.

In short, though... I don't recommend either way. I just believe that the first installment is better value for your money. If you like it, THEN get the later games.

Wrong. All chapters give you access to the six "core" classes (Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Necromancer, Elementalist, Mesmer). With Nightfall you will also be able to use the Dervish and the Paragon, and with Factions you get access to the Assassin and Ritualist.

Nightfall also looks to be much more PvE-oriented than Factions with a deeper storyline and more content. I highly recommend that you get Nightfall first, and pick up Prophecies after that. If you get into PvP a lot, look into Factions, but as most PvEers will tell you, Factions is lacking in their department.
