Ok, this may be thread number 1483259 orso about it, sorry but I dotn really care atm
I was goign for survivor title, as thread title suggested, had 420K exp with almost 40 hours playing.
Today I finished Boreas seabed, after the cutscene i typed /deaths to see if I ddient die in the skipscene or wahtever, it said 0 deaths.
Now I go to my GH, then to kaineng and maatukeep, go afk, come back.
Type /death again, just to see it, and now it says 1 death...
This is the second time this happend to me, deaths out of nowhere, anyone else had these problems??

The one time I attempted the Survivor title, I changed my mind about doing a mission at the time, mapped out and got a death. I think that mission areas may be buggy sometimes as far as leaving prior to completion or what have you, as I have heard more than one person complain about nearly the same issue, always involved a co-op mission.

Last night I was working on getting my Lv.12 E/R further into the 1st Survivor title by doing the Zen Daijun mission and then, hopefully, onto the 3000XP+ quests on the mainland.
So, there I was sitting in Zen Daijun when a Lv.20 E/Mo said he'd run me through the mission for no cost. Fair enough, it's not that difficult a mission I thought (well it isn't is it?). So we took a few henchies, mainly for a bit of passive healing and cannon fodder.
We get to the entrance to the cave on the left when I say, "hang on I'm just curing this Miasma" and he/she decides to aggro everything in sight and bring 'em onto me whilst still suffering from the -5 degen of Miasma.
The outcome? Not good at all, let's just say that my E/R won't be achieving Survivor.
Oh well, at least my Mesmer is well on the way to Survivor (2)!

Hmmm....I can't say I've had any problems with my survivor candidate whether in town or in missions. I know a few times when the henchies were being all they can be I was forced to map once I realized they couldn't compete with a real team. (Unfortunately, I'm still forced to work mainly with henchies due to the assassin stigma.) So far, no deaths from those maps.
My guess most of the leaving deaths are from the lag time for map travel and closing the program...if you are under attack and have to pull up the map to travel or if there is any lag time...you may already be dead.
As stated earlier, I figure in this case it was probbaly either someone on the computer or in the team. Sorry though...I know how painful it can be to lose the title after you choose to go for it.

I like the idea of the survivor title, but the implementation is seriously lacking. In any internet game, lag or other factors beyond one's control will occasionally cause "unfair things" (false deaths, buggy areas, moonwalking, etc) to happen. The current survivor implementation makes it difficult to obtain the title, at least legitimately -- it actually encourages dropping out of missions to protect yourself, and restarting your character from scratch whether you really got killed or the game decided to "kill you" (grind anyone?).
Also, it encourages you to either waste all sorts of fortune and time spent on older characters (and possibly unrecoverable event items), or shell out more money for another character slot just to get the title -- granted, this is only if you choose to do so.
I know this has been mentioned, but IMHO the survivor title in its current form is flawed. It should be for no deaths over a given period of experience earned, not ever. For example, you start a character in Tyria going for the title. Let's say you get to lvl 7 before the pre- to post-searing PvP battle. Once there, you are paired with a lvl 2 trying to rush through the game, versus two lvl 8's. Currently your choices are: 1) play the game and hope for the best, or 2) cheat by exiting out to skip to post-searing. The current system encourages taking shortcuts and choosing the safe route.
I fully realize people could still play it safe if this change were made, but at least they wouldn't be punished for playing the game, and it would give our older characters a chance to go for the title.
I have to agree with Raven... i had to recreated my survivor warrior about 3 times due to deaths caused either by my pc crashing or internet losing connection (two of them were close to tier 2). Trying to earn the title is fun, but the danger of losing connection ect is fustrating.. because its out of your hands when it does happen.
My current survivor is close to tier 2 again.. thanks to the elite capture event! But he will stay in limbo till Nightfall comes out. Im hoping to use the heroes to help me keep him alive if by chance i lose connection or crash again.

I was grinding survivor too, up until I got a run to Sanctum Kay and on two maps in a row this guy kept trying to pull all the enemies toward me. I told him to stop after the first one, explaining to him I only needed to get one and a half levels and all he did was laugh. I did end up zoning back to the guild hall, but I mustve got nipped just as i left, because I ended up getting a death.
After that I decided that survivor title isnt worth the stress. It was only my forth or fifth attempt, but honestly I cannot imagine grinding to level 2 or 3 survivor... I think Id be better off drunk for my kobd lol.

I too have wished for a method of getting old characters the title...but I can see why it might be easier for older characters to make it through that much xp without dying. However, with all the gimmicks people use to get survivor, I can't say the discrepancy is that great.
I know personally I've tried not to resort to such gimmicks for my survivor. He's been through a few missions with henchies and plenty with PuGs (when he can find one that will accept an assassin and I will not bail even if my survivor is doomed). He's now up to Sunjiang district and about 10k shy of Indomitable.
That all said, lag is a constant danger. I know I lost a number of survivor candidates due to that demon and have had a few close calls on my assassin. Would a revision of the title fallowing retries be feasible though? It would not fix the lag issue. I mean, I guess it does get rid of the one shot issue but none of the underlying issues will be fixed and so it seems that this title could just become incredibly frustrating either way.
