I spent at least 3 (maybe 5-7??) days in pre-sear with my first character, my ranger... -- Finding the three skill-trainers way hell-&-gone in the middle of nowhere, Everything about Pre was great...
But yes, once the searing happens everything got (and stayed) pretty depressing for a long while. Finally getting up into the shiverpeaks and that beautiful, white, snowy-wonderland was pure bliss, reminded me of Canada in the Winter

That, and running all the way to Kryta for the first time (skipping Borlis Pass (the other BP)) ... A tough run with just henchies, but well worth it to find the tropical beauty of Kryta for the first time, with "Temple of Tolerance" playing in the background to open the scenes of white beaches and lush greenery...
My favorite memory... hmmmm a couple stand out (all pve)
1) Clawing my way with guildies to get my 1st FOW set after 4 of the pug members bailed on us.
2) Playing with said guildies in a 4/4 pug mix again and using vengenance on a pug member, laughing so hard that I started crying at the comments being made by wammo each time they flopped over after it wore off. (yea it was mean but fun!)
3) Wandering around Ascalon completely lost as a newbie to the game.
4) Exploring Sorrows Furnance for the first time.
None of the memories come from Factions though... not sure if that is because I really didn't enjoy it (still don't) or they simply didn't top the first impressions of the game.

Yeah getting to Yak's Bend was exciting.
The best memory I have probably is when Factions came out and the Arborstone Mission was still glitched. I had a really fun party that cleared the entire mission and spent nearly three hours getting Danika to move little by little. What made it so great though was the people.
Guild Wars really shines when you're in a group with not just good player but ones that are fun also.

My absolutely best memory of GW was when I was playing through the game for the first time about 15 months ago.
I was at Beetletun and someone was saying "making group to fight to Temple of Ages".
I joined the group. None of us were over level 14 as far as I can remember.
We had great fun fighting, running, and stealthing our way there even though none of us really knew the way! It must have taken us an hour and a half.
We actually made the trip with me being the last person alive after we got wiped out by one of the bone dragons near ToA.
I can still "hear" the other guys on the group yelling "Go Hengis!!" as I stormchaser-ed past the last few monsters and into ToA.
One of if not the best gaming moments in my life :-))))
