The Undead of GoK

First off, yes I know there are threads about this, but there's something special about this farm that I remember being mentioned but could not find.

The run involves the undead mass spawns behind the cottage in the Gates of Kryta mission.

The secret: killing the first two undead patrols coming to kill the villagers spawns 2-3x more undead.

Second secret: apparently there is a way to make more undead spawn further along the coast, but I can't figure it out.

As for builds, it gets trickier due to the absolutely huge number of enemies spawning.

Builds that I've tried and have worked to a degree:

55 monk with SOJ. Very tricky because you can't overaggro due to the fact that if too many hit you at once, it overcomes your regen. Standard build with 4 maintained enchants, HB, PS, SOJ, BS. One of 2 safest builds.

Cyclone + TC + Live vic + Vig spir + balt spir + bonnetis + dolyaks. Again, difficult because of the large degen caused by poison + phantom pain + bleeding (-10 hp degen) on top of deep wound (phantom pain) and fragility. Very, very tricky.

Barrage ranger with pet (to help kill the first 2 mobs to trigger the larger spawn) and live vic + vig spir + balthazars spirit (put it on the pet) + zealous bow. (2nd of 2 safe builds)

My geo-ele got hurt pretty bad, i think ill try him again with unsteady ground and quake + dstomp.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why bring a pet when you can just use oink the imortal.

I'm currently looking for a PvP guild

I thought it was extremely easy using the basic axe troll farming build with mending+live vic. and then judges insight.

First, did you guys kill the two initial patrols to trigger the larger spawn? Therein lies the problem. I know how to run the standard cyclone axe build and you cant use oink to kill the two initial patrols because if the undead get past the farmers, you can't trigger the larger spawn.

And can someone tell me how to trigger the second giant spawn?

Old post about tyria undead farming is no longer online due to lack of response
I use a normal monk for this, no need for a 55. Uses Prophecies + Factions skills:

Class: Mo/any

smiting 12+1+1
divine spirit 10+1
heal 8+1

banish
spear of light
holy strike
Shield of Judgement {E}
Healing breeze
Healing touch
(Smite Hex)
Balthazar's Aura

weapon: smiting staff or rod with light damage (double damage against undead), I use rod +5e. +20 hsr and icon +20 1 smiting, +20 hsr

Can basically solo the whole mission including bonus. Usually put on Balthazar's Aura for energy management, unless for a short stretch behind the gates where merygoyles are around.

When battle starts use SoJ, breeze to outheal poison degen, and concentrate your long range spells on casters first, with a holy strike against ghuls now and then. Mesmers are just a nuisance and can be outhealed. No problem at all to take on 6+ undead enemies at once (don't know which numbers you're talking about, but I can kill the group with boss after the first bend without problems).

Behind the first bridge there's usually a big pulk of undead that move into the swamps at the left. There's a whole lot of enemies there which people usually skip by slowing down as they are not needed for mission.

yet again, not the answer

I know the rest of the mission and the bonus is easily soloable

Think of it as a double added bonus. Please read the original post carefully and you'll see that I don't mean the rest of the mission, just the initial spawn and a supposed second "hidden" spawn.
As for the 55 build, its easily done, but it gets hectic if there are more than 30 people attacking you at the same time since even with mending + healing breeze the degen that gets stacked is still very significant on top of the added hits from everything else.

Again, note, i have no problem with the NORMAL spawn (what everyone so far thinks of as special), just the special "giant" spawn if you trigger the set series of patrol events.

If you doubt me, kill the first two patrols (first is one ranger, 2 mes....second is 2 ghouls and 2 mes), AND THEN go behind the cottage and you'll see the spawn size has increased significantly.

i know which "giant" spawn u talk about, and i kill them with a normal monk as well. Using just a max ascetics armor and any staff u like.

Smiting 15 (11 + 3 + 1)
Prot 10 + 1
Divine 10 + 1

Shielding Hands
Reversal of Fortune
Mend Ailment
SoJ
Essence Bond
Balthazar's Spirit
Blessed Aura
Divine Boon

U can solo the mission and your special giant spawn without much problems. U heal by spamming Reversal and Mend Ailment as much as possible. Reversal itself doesn't heal much, but it's cast quickly and heals from ur Divine Favor and the active divine boon. For your giant spawn just dont cast shielding hands in the beginning, instead wait till the hordes have gathered around you. No problem at all.

I don't know how to trigger the second hordes. I have tried to start them, since i read about it, but had no success up to now.

Thx timberly.

Yea, I usually dont have a problem anymore with my 55, i just gotta pull back up the hill and aggro chunks of the mass group.

As for the second spawn, I think it has to do with killing all but one patrol headed towards the initial point and then going towards the swampy region where there are only a few rangers to be seen initially. But so far, nothings worked :S

I wish ANET would implement more of these tricky patrol-spawn relationships, it would make PVEing and farming alot more fun and interesting.

Imagine a horde 3x the size in the initial dredge room of urgoz warren lol.

I knew the spot between oink and the bonus location, but only approached it from the bridge. A flock of hellhounds with some casters and rangers, no problem. Killing the patrols didn't increase the undead numbers there significantly, only up to some 22. That seemed to me like normal skripted migration, just like the groups you see near the first bridge, they all seem to walk over there.

Had now time to check the mission.
Just found out there's a path around the cottage. You see a single undead and a small group, but if you walk down there, a lot of ghuls and some skeletons spawn, and the whole group from the lawn starts rushing you.

With Timberly's build I can survive. With mine (kirin's wrath insteat of smite hex) I can only do it approaching from the bridge. As far as I can see spawn is probably linked to floor triggers (ghuls definitely are), because if you come from the bridge instead of the path they are stringed out. There not even the lawn is completely linked.

Where do you kill the patrols? I usually kill the first in front ot the knoll opposite the entrance to oink, the second somewhere on the road around the knoll. I save only two villagers, another one around the knoll is killed by the second patrol as I leave the starting point.

The two patrols are the ones that follow the initial path to try and kill the two villagers. As mentioned b4, the first patrol is two rangers and 2 mesmers. THe second patrol takes a bit longer (you can see them on the other side of the hill killing a villager, but they will eventually come around), and consist of two mesmers and two ghouls. I usually aggro the first group and hold out till the second group comes around before killing both with SOJ.

Then I go behind the cottage, and voila - super, duper extra large spawn (I revise my opinion, it must be 40-50 monsters that spawn). Kill the initial hellhound to open the floodgate. If you're running a 55 build, pull back up the hill before you kill the hellhound otherwise you'll overaggro and be shot down so fast.

As i see it, everyone that replied here missed the big spawn the author is talking about, and he is actually getting the answers to his first post all by himself roflzoro. Good work ak347.

Hm, I kill them one group at a time, if I look afterwards the hellhounds + skeli group is about 20 strong. Have to try killing them together, tonight if possible.

Going down left me with ~30+ drops, so only a few additional ghuls and skeletons spawned by floor trigger. BtW the drops here were always bad (like 1 blue, 1 purple), but I got 2 golden in the rest of the mission
