As i saw in the preview i saw many people fully dying their armor black. Others getting blacks to drop also.Do you think they plan to increase black dyes drop rate? If so its probably why they did not allow Preview characters to sell to traders.Just a thought

you probably saw more black armor because people weren't scared to actually use it. nowadays i think people mostly just save their drops for their 'special' armor, or wait until prices go up, and sell them. Since we lose everything after the event anyway, people probably didn't care.

They didnt get it to drop, they bought it. And thats because the money was gonna be deleted anyway.

Funny how people just see one factor in a situation and immediately jump to conclusions. People were indeed buying the black dye. I know I was. Although, I didnt play enough to get gold for 5 black dyes.

The ones you saw saying they got Balck Dye got it from the Dye Trader's Quest most likely. (That quest gives you one random Dye, and Black/Silver have just as high a chance as any other color)

The others were just from people trying to show off with lvl20's, Black Dyed stuff, etc. ince the character was disappearing after Sunday anyway...why not?

I have noticed a slight decrease in Black prices yesterday in UK servers. a few days ago they were 11k at trader, they are 9.5k atm. I even saw some peeps selling for 8k.

The is the low down on the black dye market.

The price BEFORE the boardwalk weekend, was around 11k at the trader. People saved their black dye as a form of saving up money.

Now the Boardwalk requires you to SPEND money for that stupid ring game. Hence the massive sell off of black dye to spend money for that rings.

The price hit rock bottom at 8k which smart people (like myself) bought a ton of them (500k worth) sending the price back up to around 10k at the trader.

When Nightfall hits the price of Black dye is going to hit around the 12-13k mark for all those people wanting new armor dyed black.

The price is going to fluxate around 10-13k depending on the people (like me) selling off their dye and people buying them for their new armor.

Also i am pretty accurate about my predictions about prices too

i guessed 3 months ago that rubies and sapphires would hit around 4k-5k right before nightfall started. Today the rubies and sapphires hit the 4k mark. I love being right

The value/price of Black Dye will plummet not long after Nightfall comes out, there will be dozens upon dozens of people taking 3 guildmates with Nightfall and running "To Dye For", deleting their characters, and doing it again.

After people in other continents wise up and stop buying dye for 10k apiece, they'll start selling to the traders, and lower the price of black dye in no time flat. Finally we'll be able to mix black dye and not just use it straight all the time... Up until now few people had the cash to throw around to risk mixing black and ending up with a color they didn't care for...

This should, in theory, create more diversity in peoples armor colors.

I doubt it, I don't think Anet originally intended for black dye to cost 100x most dyes price. The main reason that Black Dye stays so costly is the majority of people selling it sell it to people instead of traders. Don't get me wrong, I've had dozens of each other color drop and only like 4 black dyes in 17 (is it 18 yet?) months of playtime, so I know it's more rare and is sought after, but still armor in Guild Wars is meant to be dyed, and dye is meant to be mixed...

Right now it's all conjecture, but I would imagine the quest "To Dye For" was implemented to bring the price of black dye down, like the inscriptions were likely introduced to deflate the rare skin market back down to a reasonable level that doesn't discourage new players.

I remember during the event some fool was willing to trade their Nightfall mini-pet for a black dye. This was during the last couple hours of the event too.

The PC Gamer Grey Giant could be obtained during the preview, and could not be stored. It will be accessible once again after Nightfall releases, but it had no value, of course neither did the dye outside of potential for all black armor screenshots (same value the pet had to someone who didn't have one)

I bought 5 blacks from trader 2 days ago for my monk, it was 55k

Care to explain how someone in the preview managed to farm 55k to buy them from the trader just to dye their dervish/paragorn armor ?

Sure, they didn't... Black Dye could be obtained during the preview via the quest "To Dye For" and people were selling it for 3-5k, and no where near the usual price. You couldn't sell to traders, so people were willing to ditch the dye for much cheaper than they would normally get from the traders.

Some people were also giving their black dyes away to people to help provide examples of how armors looked dyed certain colors during the preview. My black dye during the preview went to a friend of mine with a dervish to see how it looked.

i found a black just while farming my (lowbie lvl 6) sunspear title.

I doubt they will nerf the dye quest (if you guys want to run it 50 times to get a black feel free, I got better plans tho)

ive only ever found 1 black dye in GW... about a month and a half ago in the Pre-Searing Catacombs from a devourer and i play a LOT :/

And as far as drops go, last night in ToPK, I got an ecto, another guy got an ecto, and another guy got a black dye... pretty good drops for the group.

Thats all i have to say on the matter.

If we don't, the chinese gold farmers will, either way I think we'll see the price of black dye fall into the price range where mixing it doesn't seem like a waste of money.

Yeah that quest must be to get more black dye in the mix. I don't know if they were normally intending any dye to cost that much. All you to do is keep recreating a character get the dye through it storage and repeat. From what I remember the quest wasn't that hard either.

for me the drake meat was fairly easy to get, there are a few drakes in the first explorable area right outside the door to the outpost where the meat collector is, I booted my heroes and solo'd them with my Paragon during the preview to get the meat. You could easily pull the drakes without aggroing the skales surrounding them.
