How are people able to have 100+ copies of "Urn of Althea's Ashes"?
If it's a quest item, isn't there only one in existence in each person's game environment?

I assume people just run to the chest and grab the urn?

The Baradin's Family Urn stacks and stays in your inventory after abndoning the quest.
Take it again and go for the full 250 or more if you want
When you then do the quest click the altar and you'll get full runs instead.

you need not abandon the quest, simply have storage open when you talk to barradin, put urn in storage and talk to him again for another urn, repeat.
Note, in presear you can do this with little thoms cloak by tossing the cloaks on the ground, as long as you have enough bear pelts.
