PvP Edition for Nightfall

Just a word to those interested in the PvP Editions of Guild Wars: A large number of players have been asking about the PvP Edition of Guild Wars Nightfall, especially with this week's release of the PvP Editions of Guild Wars Prophecies and Factions. And based on your input and suggestions, we can see that players have a really good point about wanting to purchase the PvP Edition either in lieu of the full retail version, or in addition to it.

Therefore, the Guild Wars Nightfall PvP Edition will be available in the Official Guild Wars Store on Friday, October 27th. I don't have an exact hour for the release of the Nightfal PvP Edition, but I would estimate it will be very close to the 12:01 a.m. release of Nightfall itself.

Hope this is helpful, and see you in the game.

THANK YOU GAILE, you just saved me a bunch of hassle trying to get my mesmer through the whole game to unlock skills with hench. (Even though i doubt it would be that bad anymore since we have heros.)

I got news for you, Sentao. Once you hear about the story, you're gonna want to run through the game.

Kind of glad Anet changed their stance on this one. Its actually for the better. Unlike most of the other times they have done something opposite what they said they would.

I have now been sat here for about five minutes trying to find words to fully express my reaction to this change. Unable to; I have decided to fall back on the old 'a picture says a thousand words' mantra, and so I give you the following:

Brilliant and eminently sensible. Will be getting the regular ol' NF myself, but I have many friends who will dearly love this, and I'm happy on their behalf. Two thumbs up!

Sincerely, I didn't think it would be out at the same time of the 'full' edition.
Well done, I will buy the regular edition though, I have an insane addiction for titles
And unlocking all the skills will be quite fast considering the amount of pvp I do lately

A week, Makky? I give it a day, possibly two, but no more.

I'm really just starting to get heavily into PvP, but this is excellent news. I may put off buying the full version of Nightfall for a bit longer, knowing that I can get the unlock pack so very soon... Though I still have to find the funds for my beloved PvE addiction.

Awesome news, Gaile. Thanks for sharing.

I have a friend who is interesting in having both full unlocks and PvE content and is wondering is some sort of combination edition may be a possibility in the future - say, for US$70, or something like that.

Oh, and will Heroes' Arena be available to PvP edition owners?

Man, considering how important is this announcement, pretty meager reaction from the board. From day 1 so many people have moaned about " UAX ", GW tournament edition and so on. Could it be that the people that wanted this in the first place have left the game already ? Anet need to do a major ad campaign to get all those people back, me thinks. Otherwise great decision.

Yes just saw . By the way it would be nice if Gaile tells us this : if somebody decides to go for the PVP pack, would they miss out on some PVP feature which are coming with Nightfall ? I am not talking for hero battles here. Things like better party grouping and the ability to observe your own guild in Ob mode ?

Well, in a way I think it's a good thing there isn't a big fuss over this.

Last thing we need is:

(PvPer) All right, UAX! In your face you stupid carebears!
(PvEer) This is an outrage! Anet obviously favors PvP.
(PvPer) That's bullcrap! This game has always catered to grinders.
(PvEer) Why don't you play a FPS if you like PvP and being a dumb doodie head on the internet so much.
(PvPer) Why don't you play WoW since you like dressing up in costumes and grinding the same stupid AI over and over.
(PvEer) Why you...
(PvPer) I hads all I can stands and I can stands no more...
(Mod) Shut up, both of you. *threadlock*

I think this will backfire on the next chapter since the distribution network will likely see this as Anet undercutting them and that will greatly reduce retail orders for the next chapter. Just my 2cents. Hope I'm wrong.

Yes certainly a risk for them, which would explain why they waited with those skill packs for so long. But that makes their decision even more admirable. Nice to see they cater to the players and not the distributors.

In this case Anet are a part of NCsoft Corporation, so I imagine all profits go to them regardless. I don't think this is the same as the Valve/Steam/Sierra debacle, if that's what you're thinking of.

Here's a small problem I've noticed. To buy the pvp-edition, you need access to the Guild Wars Online Store. And to have access to the store, you need a GW account. So people that want to start out with pvp-edition can't. They need at least one full-version GW.

Was this overlooked, or working as intended?

It's very unlikely the prices undercut anyone as that would surely damage their retail sales. PvP edition is not the same as boxed/PvE/regular campaign edition, and those are in the online store for more than most retail outlets sell for (hence no undercut going on).

If there ever is a retail PvP edition (with box etc.) I'd guess it would sell in the shops for even cheaper than the online store cost. Same as it currently is for the regular edition.

cointerm: presumably you can get initial access using a Trial Key

http://www.guildwars.com/support/gwtrial.php

Then that could give access to the online store to buy full campaign/PvP pack. Just guessing there, haven't tried it. I'm not sure where to get trial keys from either.

i think since you can just download the client whenever, if you dont have an account the client will basically just be the store itself.

as far as pvp packs- gg anet , Im a CE fan myself, and cant think of buying gw without a story, but to a lot of people this is going to be a great option to have. personally im balanced with pvp and pve, but I know that there are some people who exlusively play pvp, just like there are pvers out there who have never touched pvp.

Oh well, PvEers are better at skill usage then PvPers anyway, let them have the skills. The time it will take them to figure out what skills are useful, and what skills are not, I will have all the skills I need to whip their butts anyway, so HA!!!

I think Gaile just wants more flowers from JR.

Seriously though, great stuff. I'm actually tempted. Once through the PvE and then I'll see whether I can bear to do it again. Ironically, this means that if ArenaNet did a worse job they get more money from me (in the short term). :P

I'll be buying the regular edition because I've already got most of the runes and useful skills unlocked from the preview events, but this is fantastic news for the PvP community and the game's future as a competitive e-sport.

This is pretty nice for people who like to PvP and might not have enough time to bother with the PvE parts. Two people come to mind: my guild leader and my cousin. I'm pretty sure they will both be pretty happy about this. GJ Anet.

You can now sign up for a key and buy from the Online Store if you're a new user and just want the PvP Edition etc. (go through the "create a new account" screen, you get the option to do so there)

Am I wrong or can't you just PvP, earn faction & unlock stuff?
