Vier Reiter [Vier]

So Nightfall is released tomorrow...and Halloween starts as well which I have been sooooooooo looking forward to. What does Anet do? Push a huge update.

Lots of great things...new interfaces, templates, dye previews, new salvage options (already successfully used it it rocks) control+click on your Skill Bar to announce your skill setup to your party members, that's fabulous. It'll help kill loot thieves etc. A few good skill balances, some sucky as usual, can't please everyone. On the whole, very cool but...

Then we come to the thing everyone and their minipet is freaking over...

(dramatic music please)

The AoE nerf

Now, I can get over my SS farming being over, my 55 to...I like to play with new builds, have like 12 just for farming different things. I'll find new ones, or let farming go..it's mainly time filler anyway no biggie.

What bothers me far more is mission/quest group gameplay. How many decent ele skills for example AREN'T AoE by this new definition? Now most any skill that effects more than 1 foe OR 1 for more than 1 time causes scatter.

Now the point of this thread....WHY would Anet piss this many players off the day before the release? I can't tell you how many ppl I heard saying in game THEY WERENT BUYING NF NOW or more nicely weere waiting a few days/weeks to see if it's fixed before they get it. Personally, I've played 17 mionths or so, am a VERY loyal player, have been sooooooo stoked for this....and now I'm much less so. My fiance plays, he was building a Dervish, he's been looking forward to it...now he's not. All Dervish skills hit more than 1 foe...scatter...uselesss.

So what do you think? I'm asking you *PLEASE* don't turn this into yet another PvP/PvE contest ok?

Excuse my language but it's A-net's tradition to piss players off the day before, they did it with Factions (MM Nerf being the big one) and I daresay they'll do it again with Chapter 4 if theres anyone still playing by then of course.

People got over the last nerf and they can get this one out of their heads soon enough.

And MM's still are great for having in a group are they not?

Well if you are going to make major changes, you are going to want to make them right after a new major sale, not before, I see that point. But doing it just a day before release is just about the same thing as doing it on release day itself. Many people have already prepaid in full.. it's far too late for many people to cancel their orders. If they did this a week or a month ago, it would have a bigger impact, but I bet this will not have a huge effect on NF sales at this point.

Most people who have been planning to buy Nightfall haven't bought the game in full already. That's a poor assumption. I only put $10 down on the preorder bonus, and I'm not complaining because I'm fully aware of the risks of playing a MMORPG and preordering games.

Anet should get tons of respect for their timing of this update. Sure it might hurt their sales a little bit from the farmers (lazy ones mostly), but they are not lying to their customers while at the same time maintaining some secrecy about the development of their product.

I'm still buying Nightfall

I agree that most people are not paid in full, I said "many", not most. I'm just saying that doing it a day before the release is going to have less effect than doing it a week or a month before release. Not just because people have paid or not paid.. it's also a hype thing. I think that people who are angry are going to be still caught up in the hype of the expansion being only a day away, and that internal conflict is going to keep many of them from rushing off to cancel the order.

Because ANet now prefers to be the 'Polite Idealist" hence giving you a chance not to buy NF and quit if you dont like their ideals for their product.

If they were to release these "nerfs" after selling NF then we perhaps would be calling them the "wicked Idealist" who scammed us.

But in all honesty its likely that it was planned and in the works for some time and this patch was perhaps a good time to release in conjunction with the Halloween and pre NF data. But necessary and appropriate testing of this large update is another matter as we can see from the list of "bugs topics" poping everywhere on these forums.

It's only an illusion MMs are still good because of the way Factions is set up on mobs and their skills. All huge Fleshy mobs and no decent skills against MM = MM wins. Try Tyria's endgame with a MM. Non-fleshy creatures = gg MM.
