Potential future scam warning concerning rune armor drops
bryann380
I strongly recommend you do NOT buy unidentified purple/gold armor drops from players (at least the ones not in your guild/alliance/friends) and here's why. When I first found a gold armor drop after the update, I salvaged it first to see what type of rune it would be. In the process, the armor was not destroyed... BUT... it remained gold in text color, still not identified. So when I tried to salvage it again, I got materials. This has been confirmed by me with purple armor drops as well.
So I believe scammers will salvage runes from purple/gold armors then try to sell those armors for huge prices as if the runes were still in them.
Pass this along to everyone you know!

Can't believe they miss something like this, is it applicable to all golds also? Imagine stripping a sword of all it's mods and then selling it I mean without iding obviously).

I understand the potential for scamming, sure, but people will find a way to scam other people in any system. Eventually enough people will learn of the scam, and the scammers' odds of success with this one go down, so they move on to something else.
I'm not signing because I like this - being able to get a rune and materials out of armor drops is great for rune and material hoarders like myself. Until this arrived, purple armor drops were useless to me when trying to stock up on rare materials. If I used the expert salvage kit, I got the major rune, not any chance at rare materials.
Perhaps a fix that addressed both concerns would be a flag on an item after it had been salvaged, but please don't just take away this nice new functionality because it give some unscrupulous sorts yet another way to take advantage of others in game.

wow you re smart , lol I salvaged a rune from the gold armor and still had teh armor there xD.
ps:and Hells, even after you remove the rune the armor is still gold, and can be sold (scamed)

This is a huge exploit that can screw people over in a big way.
The armor's color should change to white when the rune has been salvaged out of it. Scammers are going to jump all over this one. Seekers of Wisdom, beware!

I can actually see how leaving it the way it is could be a good thing; instead of buying piles of crap rares for 1k each, you could buy piles of rare armors for 500g-1k each, and then after you identify them, you could salvage them for rare materials (a welcome bonus, I'd say).
Yes, something does need to be done to prevent scamming; however, I personally feel that flagging each armor as pre-salvaged somehow would be an overall more sensible, and in the long run beneficial, method than changing the item rarity as such that one could not earn a title with it.

I just tested an unidentified blue bow that dropped. When you go to salvage it a window pops up that says "This (item) may contain magical components. If you choose to salavage before identifying, you may lose these components."
So you should be safe from scammers trying to salavage stuff out of unknown weapons. BTW I got 5 wood planks course I have no idea if it had mods or not.
Now for armors the way to NOT be scammed is to only buy unidentified extracted runes, course that will stop you from getting a sup vigor unless you pay to id an unid'ed one.
Still some sort of fix for this should be put in the game that will let people know that the rune has been extracted without removing the ability to extract rune and then get salvage stuff too. Perhaps tag the armor name with (extracted).

I agree with Faer, just flag it, but don't make it so it can't be used for the title.

Wow, Nightfall isn't even officially live and there are exploits already. And I thought people going to the PvP island to figure out if their unidentifieds were worth anything was bad.
Please fix this!

Yeah that's kind of bad.. there needs to be something posted (Gaile?) as to whether or not this was intended. If it was we will need to adjust but I'd like to know whether or not (and when) to buy gold unidentified~ Thanks
Pkest
very exploitable so needs to be fixed asap!

Does this mean I can get to ID ticks on my wisdom title out of a rare armor?
Like this: salvage rune -> ID rune -> ID leftover armor.
I'm going to farm and try!

Former Ruling
Some difference telling that the item has been salvaged is a better choice than ruining this awesome new system just because of some scammers.
OR better yet, give a 100% chance to break the item when you salvage it UNID...

Rare armors add 2 to wisdom when salvaged.
rokashan
Simple fix for this is to not allow you to salvage an item unless it's ID'd.
Seron
salvaging a weapon un-id does remove the mod, and leave the item still un-id. This has to be an un-intentional bug.
Darcy
@Franco - Hells was explaining to LicensedLuny that posters were not asking to do away with the salvage option. Posters want the gold label removed from the armor after the rune is removed. That would prevent scamming but not affect the salvage option.
