Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this is ENTIRELY wrong. I hated titles to begin with (they encourage grinding and enhance the schism between people who play all the time and those who only have a limited time to play), but now they're making it so titles DO something in the game? I'm... speechless.

Everything else about the update is great (especially the materials storage). But this, this came from nowhere and should go back there.

stop crying, it doesnt effect your normal gameplay. it only makes thing easier for you if you have a higher rank. big deal.

also i laugh at teh fact that you think titles encourage grinding. since most have no in game effect at all and are just gold sinks

Only thing wrong about it is that they don't do nearly enough to reward people who have the titles. Those rewards as they stand are way too little. Increasing Faction cap to 50k is still worth little since you can't use the Faction for anything good, like PVP Fissure Armor or trading for Shards. Those are two things should be added in to go along with the Faction titles bonus and getting increased Faction from battles.

They should make the Treasure Hunter and Seeker of Wisdom Titles account-based.

The Kurz and Lux titles definitely need reward bonuses also.

The Treasure Hunter and Seeker of Wisdom are just chest farmer titles for those who flood the game with money anyway. Really, titles should be just that: with zero effect on the gameplay.

"also i laugh at teh fact that you think titles encourage grinding." Titles ARE nothing but grinding. Grinding gold to buy ale/keys, playing alliance battles ad nauseum to donate faction, running maps for no reason other than to get explorer titles...

They must have changed that because when I read it last night it was a base of 75% with a 1% bonus per rank. :O

Loki, that's the bonus for the Treasure Hunter and Wisdom titles lines. But, in addition, they expanded your max unspent Balthazar faction based on your ranks in the Hero, Champion, and Gladiator title lines. An addition which I think is nothing but awesome. It has no effect whatsoever on people who don't have them, so I don't see how they have reason to complain.

salvaging for the thread starter will be the same as always until you get higher rank in the titles then your chances increase by a slight percent. nothing significant in my oppinion so fuggetaboutit

It most certainly does. It affects the economy of the whole game. It's also a slap in the face for those of us who still adhere to Guild Wars' original premise of grind-free, casual gameplay not being spat upon.

This doesnt effect gameplay at all. it effects items. items which you can simply get at collectors.

Please be so kind as to insult people's intelligences any longer, always claiming they don't know what's going on. Yes, this is true: allowing the person to sell both the mod and the item, creating (maintaining) more gold in the system, and continuing to prevent those who can't farm 6 hours a day from being able to afford anything.

after u opened 10000 chests and identified 10000 gld items your chances are 89%....

Why would you care about slight % percentage more to salvage gold (purp whatever) items better if you dont care about these items to beginning with? Judging you dont care about wisdom/treasure titles means you dont deal much with gold items anyway. Collectors are always there for you.

you are complaing tiny chance of not getting a weapon after salvage that sels for 100 gold or less afterword.

that is nowhere near being able to make the rich more rich and the poor poorer, since the poor still have a over 50% chance of getting the item.

before the update you had no chance of getting it, so technicly youd be getting more money either way

Having better chance to get mods and gold weapons separated means more availabilty for mods and gold weapons, hence cheaper market price.

The benefit from these titles seem pretty neutral. More of a convenience than anything i can imagine. The advantage is so small, Anet doesn't even have to actually change anything... if the salvage rate stayed the same, people won't even know the difference.

I don't care what anyone says, there is supposed to be a difference in gamers who play the game more then others. It's like the old days of Mortal Kombat at the arcade, if you didn't play a lot to get good you got your A++ handed to you by someone who did. My time is worth something, and if I choose to spend it on this game I should be rewarded. If someone else thinks they have too much of a "life" to play as much as I do, they deserve to have no advantage. In all games, you get better in one way or another by playing not by asking that others be held back to make it fair for you.

All true. However, Guild Wars was established to have skill and ONLY skill matter. These things are, instead of rewarding skill, merely rewarding hours played.

I dont think titles are grinding, I ve goten protector, seeker of wis, adv treasure, ally of lux, etc, just by playing the game normally on my warrior.

What grinding is that just playing the game normally ?

sKill takes experience, experience takes time. so no matter what it All to do with how much you play, regaurdless of what you belive. or what anet tells you.

If you think you can pick up somthing and instantly have skill without havening spent time on it, then you are going to have a frustrating life

Strange, I have 80% chance to not destroy the base item on all my characters, wether or not they have ranks in the titles.
Are the effective titles account-wide?
