Nightfall vs WoW Expansion

I stopped by my local EB Games yesterday (I live in the New York/New Jersey area) in hopes Nightfall had arrived.

I spoke to the manager about Nightfall and he was excited about it. I asked him how many people had preordered Nightfall, and he said 18. Then he said, "nothing compared to the preorders for WoW."

Intrigued, I asked him how many people at the same store had preordered the upcoming WoW expansion. He said 106!!!!

Holy freakin' crap!

I thought for sure a "free MMO" would dominate the market over a $15 per month commitment. Now I'm kinda bummed, Guild Wars is quite good.

The good news is that all those WoW fanactics had their expansion pushed back till next year.

People new to WoW can't just pick up TBC and start playing, with Guild Wars the chapter system is more inviting to new players IMO.

That's not entirely true...The Burning Crusade is introducing 2 new playable races for each of the factions (1 on each side) which open up the Shaman and Paladin class to both factions. Many people will be making new Blood Elves and Draeni. Up to level 20 it's all new content for those 2 races, then they merge into the original wow untill 50-60 ish when Burning Crusade level range opens up.

What can you expect? Supposedly there are 7 million WoW accounts (last time I heard), and right now, there are 2 million GW accounts(or is it 2 million copies of Factions and Prophecies sold?). It only makes sence that the preorder numbers would be like that.

WoW just has way more content and you can farm in wow as compared now to GW.GW hasn't broken the million dalllers sales that it did when it was first released as far as I know.I don't know about Factions.

I've played both WoW and GW since their respective release dates.

Just my two cents: Nightfall is the first GW chapter that may have a broader appeal to WoW players, so there may be more interest in the WoW community in giving GW Nightfall a try as the word of mouth spreads.

I don't see the two games as being in competition, by the way. Each game has unique features to offer.

I used to play WoW, spent 14 month and I'll never return back. Boring game when you get lvl 60 with any of your character, PvP sucks.
Now WoW makes ALL subscribers to buy update. How do you play with your 60 vs 70 if ganking is everywhere???

The same way you play with your characters from 1-59 with 60s ganking everywhere... very carefully. Or you play on a carebear server.

Played both WoW and GW off and on since their releases. NCSoft should be thanking Blizzard for the timely announcement this week. A great many people who would have passed on Nightfall in hopes of BC releasing at Thanksgiving, will now be buying Nightfall.
