Hero Battles Rewards - are they serious?

It's really just a sign of our times and culture. Fewer and fewer people do anything simply for the fun of doing it or for the satisfaction of doing something well. It's come to the point where our gimme, gimme, style over substance attitudes are considered the norm and anyone that is content with simple success is all but laughed at.

If you don't get paid or rewarded in some huge way or don;t have something fancy or flashy to lord over others, then it isn't worth doing or isn't fun. Kinda sad really.

As for me.. titles and whatnot are nice, but I play this and any other game simply for the fun of playing. My satisfaction and sense of enjoyment comes from doing well or winning... big rewards are simply a bonus and not the reason I do anything in the game. I have just as much fun completing a 500 xp quest as I do a 3k xp quest. If I pvp winning an RA match is just a fun to me as winning in HA or GVG. If I do well I'm happy.. anything else I get is gravy.

I know this is all longwinded and I'm sorry if it bores anyone, but unfortunately part of the game community seriously reminds me of my kids and their friends. It's sad to watch a good chunk of the up and coming generation feel like it is better to be bad at something as long as they look good doing it or refusing to do things unless they are getting some outlandish reward. There is far too little of trying to be good at something JUST to know you are good at it.

Wow and I always thought the point of this game was to have fun. Now I realize that it's to grind for rewards.

have you ever played FPS games? no rewards there at all, yet they are imensly popular online... why? ... cause its fun. The same thing with PVP i only play RA anyways, got most of the stuff unlocked. Faction makes for a nice edition, but thats not why i am playing it.
PS: Gladiator title is cool though

I would add something but "Corwin Andros" has already said everything I would have wanted to.

farming mentality ftl

Edit: And on another note, putting "fame" into Tombs/HA was possibly the worst idea ever!

well i play the game for fun and also to prove im better then other people
thats really what online games are about beating other random people halfway aroudn the world and sporting titles/rank/emotes is all a part of that.

they did say you would be randomly placed against another person in hero battels based on your skill level. so this tells me their is prob some type of ranking system to be the best. maybe cool looking hero armor would be enough of a reward to let everyone knoe whoe leet u are.

Im pumped for these 1 on 1 battles with henchies, simply because im a competitive person, and i want to be able to compete any time i want with waiting for some jackasses to form a party, or get randomly paired up with idiots.

Oh wait it actually had 3 poeple max in it, usually afk or there for exploration purposes.
the difference is that, to most FA and JQ gameplays aren't interesting at all. it's just a shit version of RA

jade quarry sees no play because its RAs randomness (the most frustrating part of RA, somtimes you meet a team you cannot counter) , combined with having to use complex stratergies to win, which does NOT mix with random players, in RA even the most stupid team can figure out to kill the other team, how many random 11 year old players can work properly as a team to win quarry?

Quarry is a BAD playmode, its just not any fun, and winning is % luck, not skill (and RA IS different, its somthing you can do for 5 mins, then stop))

your comparing Apples to Oranges

Repeat After Me:

Correlation Does not Equal Causation

Bad rewards isnt why Jade quarry isnt played

Does it feel good to use your head?

Yeah that was very horrible reasoning on Evilsod's part. Rewards had nothing to do with Jade Quarry being unpopular. If you've ever played it, you'd know why people didnt like it.

I'm glad I've been pointed in the right direction. I now know my game time is to be all consumed with the accumulation of even more worthless titles. Thanks navaros. /sarcasm

Seriously, if you need the self gratification that badly, come up with your own game in which you make all the rules. Maybe then you'll be happy.

So much for 500 after winning..everyone leaves early and that only fetchs 200-300 faction. D:

I am liking the hero battle just for fun. What I don't get is... how is it not fun for some people? (I assume they usually just sux and lose anyway, and no one like losing 100% of the times)

A mini RTS with you fighting in it too. Very nice, just my kind of game.

As someone stuck at rank 2 cause I can't get in decent groups I second this notion. 1 Fame per win and I'm happy.

the dragon arena, I spent hours playing it, I made loads of faction in about 10 minutes, I didn't care though, I was playing it so much for the fun of it, it took the seriousness out of PvP.

I've said that loads of times but this topic needed it.

Roleplaying unfun?
Winning in a competative play format not as important as a few measly points?

I weep for this generation. You are deluded fools. :'(

No.

There's a fairly nice PvP section on this forum; you may want to take a look at it.

Why would I wanna do that? I am pretty sure I am vastly higher ranked and have been more successful at GW PVP than 95% or more of the people who have posted in this thread thus far and made personal attacks against me. Anyhow that doesn't have anything to do with this thread and I don't mean to bring it up other than because it speaks to the ridiculousness of statements from those who try to claim I'm making this thread because I need PVP help. They are terribly mistaken about that, and in reality just the opposite is true. I'm making this thread precisely because for ages, Balthazar Faction has a been a meaningless, worthless reward (at least, after a short while of initial unlocks) to anyone who is a good PVP player and hence Hero Battles should give more rewards.

I suspect that the reasons for most of the personal attacks against me in this thread are the "have nots" - Ie: those who do not have the skill or ability to acquire good PVP rewards for themselves, wanting out of jealousy to keep decent PVP rewards away from those who are capable of getting them by making sure that decent PVP rewards don't get put into the game.

Maybe a title would work? and you can always use Factions to unlock PvP stuff.

So, you don't gain gladiator points for every 10 wins or something there? I don't have NF, so I can't test myself.

I love it. its a good bit more faction than RA and i don't have to worry about other things. In XoO not alto of people TA so I'm usually on my own. Also hero battles are strategic, what shrines you go for first how well you can split up and micromanage your troops.. Best of all whether you win or lose depends on you, containing your enemy, being able to hold a shrine 3v4 or even 3v4
having a build that is good at 1 vs 1 skirmishes on a particular henchie(or yourself) and using it just to cap outlaying shrines while you focus on center.

also each map is different. IN the one with the center shrine guarded by the catupult that catapult control point is key,

on others getting at least one hp shrine and the NCP shrine as a secondary objective, all while making sure you can keep pressure at the center shrine, i like being the whole team. once you get the feel down it gives a cohesive team play that is harder to achieve in other arenas. and best of all its instant join and go, no longer search times like AB or having to get guildies to come team up with you. pick your guys and roll with it.

I love it, it adds that 1 vs 1 genre that was missing from GW

No, actually it's because

1. You're arrogant.
2. You make unsubstantiated claims regarding your PvP skill. (Before you flame me on this, post a pic of your gold cape please.)
3. You've demonstrated a lack of comprehension about why people PvP.

It's psycological, you gain respect and you get to show off your respect.

Like showing titles, emotes.

Getting money so you can buy "your reward".

Not everyone is like this though.
