Bug? The Great Escape quest

For this quests the objectives are to first talk to an NPC, then goto a location, kill 2 patrols then kill a boss mob to rescue Koss. Koss and the boss character are inside a fortress type setting. Once you kill the patrols I would expect that one of the 2 gates would open, but I've tried 4 times and I can't get in to the fortress where the boss and Koss are. 
Is there some hidden strategy or event that needs to happen?

kill everything aroud there...it took an hour but the top door opened for me last night

You have to kill the patrols in order or one of them goes inside the castle thing...and it shuts.

Me and an ally did it last night with our heroes level 8-20. We found no bug, but the first gate you find is locked. Head north, up the river (unsure), cross the bridge, kill the 2 groups then walk back down. You should be back at the fortress - and this gate is open. Couple more groups to kill, then grab your reward!

Good luck. I wiped the entire map working on my sunspear title/cartographer, there was no one left outside when I started working on this quest besides the quest mobs that is. I'll try again tommarrow I guess. there were 2 people inside the fort seperate from the main group, so maybe they ran inside.
Did you and your ally split 1 team per gate? Or just follow the quest star? I just followed the quest star and it bounces you from one side to the other starting by wiping the front patrol, then the back patrol, then theres still a group at the front, all the gates are closed, but the boss, koss are inside awaiting me. There is an inaccessable open door on the back shore by the dock but theres no way to get to it.

I just killed absolutely everything around the garrison twice tonight, and both times the door to the Field Commander did not open even after the Field Commander says "let me face them myself" and the quest log says "Kill Commander Kubeh and his elite guards".
Please fix this immediately.

Someone else in alliance had same problem. He ran out of range of the castle, then ran back. One of the doors was open. Try this maybe?

same thing for me. I cleared the whole area and nothing.

Happened to my group this afternoon. Just went around killing random enemies, eventually we came back and the doors were open.

It happened to me too... The second time I followed the green arrow and I attacked only the groups indicated... both the doors opened... (open sesam, open sesam)
