Not sure, Ive seen a few axes do that, not a real problem, just looks different in the inventory then when its being used...

This was a glitch that was introduced with the october 25th dye update.

Randomly some weapons in some people's inventorys lost their dye on the icon, but still appear dyed when equipped.
