Assuming it will be like last year, Mad King Thorn (MKT) comes every 3 hours starting at 12:01 PST. So that means for me the only time I could get on would be 9 in the morning, 12 at lunch and that's it. I've read that the king stays for about 20 mins, so at 9-20 I could stay and get the spec item, but then I'd almost or will be late for school (that day is late opening). The only other time would be at 12 noon, but I get off for lunch at 12:15. I could probably quickly run to the internet cafe near the school but then the 20 mins would be over.
So, is there any way that I could stay for MKT at 9 but exit GW before 9:20, but still get the spec item?

I'm lucky as Tuesday is my off day for the most part, but I'm still going to miss at least 2 appearances, more if I don't stand up all night.
I don't know about Washington, but Halloween isn't a federal Holiday around here.

What does the Mad King do when he shows up exactly? How do you get the pumkin mask from him when he shows up? I wasn't playing last year and have no clue what to expect.

To OP: Yes, just leave the game up and running with your character in LA or Kamadan, and presto! You'll get the special item. That's how it worked last year, you only had to be in town while the MAD KING was there, there was nothing else required. He left the pumpkin crowns just as he was leaving. Now, being AFK caused you to miss out on the MAD KING's fun and games, so AFKers didn't get any of the little gifts (Same stuff the horseman collectors gave out) from him. This year, your mileage may vary.

Maybe i remember this wrong, but i believe there was so much lag at one of the events, that if you were in a district like district 3, got your hat, immediately logged out and then back in to a really low numbered district like 119, you might get there in time to get a hat for a different character. I think. Don't pin your hopes on it. Maybe i'm imagining things.

Hmm, so based on what I've read, I can leave on GW and one character will get the "witch hat" (I've heard rumors of a skull helm). But then, only 1 character gets it, right?

And Mr T Bot, I agree, Anet should've moved the event to today and yesterday, or at least put a "Mad King's Messenger" that brings you to the Mad King and play his games for 10 mins (20 would be too boring) and give you a hat/helm.

I seriously hope that one can do this again because there are not enough hours in the day for me to get headgear for my 9 characters.
