I think the OP title should be: What are we going to do FOR money?
Was confused when i saw it in the forum listing.
Anyways check out the farming section of the forums, Rangers are taking a larger role in farming these days until they get nerfed that is....
What are we going to do with money?

Seems to me heroes == huge money sink.
If heroes were per account instead of per character it would seem a bit easier on the pocket book.
My advice... just be frugal. Get by with what drops for you and if you find something you can farm... the farm the hell out of it and NEVER ever tell anyone about it.

I typically don't have a whole lot of money, but I typically range in the 50k-70k range. I have only been to the UW and FoW about as many times as I have fingers on one hand, and I'm not particularly a big farmer. If I need something, I'll usually grind for it, or do a small-scale farm. If ANet plans to keep these changes, they should maybe change some other things. My suggestion would be that gold is not shared. If you have a party of 8 and you kill a monster and he drops 100g, when you pick it up, everyone gets 100g. They may have to drop how much gold an enemy drops (like 50 instead of 100), but it may help eliminate the whole "farming" thing and encourage people to get in groups to get gold together. It might actually might make things like The Deep, FoW, or UW really fun. Just a thought. |

I dont think you need to farm for money...
1.I get all my salvage and Id kits from the imperal commondatins in factions
2.You dont need gold items, arena net also thought of this, The new salvage options, so now you dont need to buy that 20k gold, just make your own with what you salvage.
3.You should easily be able to get that 1.5k armor instead of the 15k, they are just as good
4.If you buy all 800 skills, of course you are broke, ANYONE IN THE WORLD WOULD BE BROKE!
5. if its that big a deal, just ebay

that having been said, BY FAR the most important way to make money...is to save money.
dont spend it on stuff you want, untill you have the stuff you need
i dont care how wealthy you are, if you buy everything in sight, you will eventually go broke. even i have to prioritize which items i want, and (most of the time) refrain from getting copies of already possessed item...because, its a waste of money. and every now and then you need it for some things.
i assure you, it doesnt take much to survive in this game, so long as you arent spending money left and right on stuff thats not really going to improve your character.
Period.

The thing I love about heros is that Purple and Worthless green items can be put to good use now.
Instead of buying an item, whenever I find a purple item or gold item that would have gone to the merchant, I just give it to my hero. It's that simple!
I wonder FoW farming still works for ranger...
Anyways, I suggest you just play the game normally and pick up drops. Already finished the game? Do the bonus or get masters. Money comes very easily in this game.

I progress into the storyline and pick up gold I get along the way. I also sell my mini pets :P. Besides that I don't need anything else. You don't need to buy 'Retardedly Expensive Green Wand of Weakness' You can get a duplicate which is blue and sometimes even better. Same with the 15k armor. You only need 1.5k armor. It makes no difference in stats.

Pick up everything and sell it, builds up after time especially if you have to redo areas for quests and such, or if you fail a mission and have to repeat it. See it time and time again when players don't pick up the whites or stackables and then complain that they never have gold.
And it the later areas of the chapters, ID your white items. Always good to see a white sell to the trader for well over a hundred gold when it would've only been half that had you not IDed it.

Or think ahead.... and take advantage of the times. I bought TONS of ectos when they dropped to 3k right after Factions released. Now, I have a ton of them, but sadly, I am going to get male dervish fow armor, so alas, I will soon be broke. Play the market. You can easily make enormous amounts of gold playing the traders, the players. I call it Kingpinning the market. I bought 250 of each type of jewel when they were 2.6k-3k ea at the trader. I resold MANY of them yesterday for 3.5-3.8k to the trader. Total Profit= 300k+
I will not give my market strategies out, that would eliminate my kingpin on it, but.... if you learn how the supply and demand track systems work in the economy, you can control the rare mats market. Skins are still worth a lot of money, and with customizeable stats, you can now create a high powered RARE skinned item and still sell it for a lot of gold.

and if you really know about economy, you should know that if people can't make money they can't pay you high right? if ppl can't farm, they can't make money so they can't pay you. 99% of the old rich players neither quit or stop caring items anymore. how can you expect to ask 100k+xxx<3 digits
atleast 100ecto here

hell, even i could not "control" the rare material market for more than a few days or hours, pretty much no one individual could.
if you could get enough wealthy players to do the same thing at the same time, and then gradually release more of that particular material onto the market over a pre-determined period of time, you could control the prices of that material, but only for a limited time, and it would cost an ABSURD amount of money to pull this off.
however, if those same people then reinvested in that same material, bought them back up from players at reduced costs, then they could make a substantial profit.
the problem is the organization, time, dedication, risk and followthrough that this would require would not only be extremely difficult, it would probably not make the previously mentioned profit worth the work involved. those same wealthy players would probably make more spending their time trading than doing this.
overall, i think you'd be lucky to make a 10% margin off of this strategy.
(i would hazard a guess that dumping 50million worth of ecto would be enough to influence [not totally control] prices for a few weeks, probably not more than a month, and you'd probably be lucky to make a 5-7mil profit from doing it.

Making money isn't to tough
1)Kill monster until they drop things for you
2) if it was a white item weapon that you don't intend to use, use an expert salvage kit on it. (swords, axes, daggers, metal shiney things)
3) Take your steel ingot that you don't need and turn it in for gold
4) profit
Or if your trying to make armor repeat through three until you reach number four.
I made 43 plate today since the price of steel went up and i had 216 in my vault. The reason? I knew nightfall was coming and i don't run and change my armor to the new 15k every few months.
