Pretty sad eh?
I never could get my friends interested in the game, and I had one horrible pug experience after another, so I finally threw up my hands in frustration at Thunderhead Keep (I did the Ascension missions with either one or two other people, giving orders the whole way - this was just after release). But Thunderhead just kept wiping the groups I went in with, always right at the end, and after my frustration level with the Ascension process (again, remember, this was not long after release, and not in a skilled guild), I gave up on it.
I came back some time later with my one remaining friend who was playing GW, and we tackled it again - and failed. Bizarrely, a few days after that, I logged on, joined a random pug, and we cleared it. Then I took another break :P
But yeah, with Nightfall out, I hopped on for the first time in awhile, saw they'd added henchmen control (sweet!) and easily cleared the last missions around the Ring of Fire. Cool area, glad to finally finish the game.
Now I suppose I should move on to Cantha
It's a bummer I'll never be able to see the Underworld/Sorrow's Forge/etc, without a solid guild, I can't imagine the annoyance of doing those with pugs. I play to enjoy the experience and explore, and most pugs are either horrible, or solely focused on clearing the area as fast as possible - neither of which appeals to me.
I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I love the _concept_ of the combat engine... but only in pvp, and I don't play pvp due to my friends playing other mmos. I love the art, like the music, and enjoy the story - but don't really like the pve much.
Guess I'll see how/if Factions improved on it. I'll spend a few weeks on it, with the new henchmen controls, unless there are really annoying missions, I should be able to beat it, then head on to Nightfall
