Pogahn Passage so DAMN HARD?!
falling demon
so, i chose the Margrid the Sly quest instead of the Master of Whispers quest, and it brought me out here, now the first part is easy, but how the HELL am i meant to stop Shahai from dieing against one hit KO Fireballs from Captain Nebo? if she was level 20, and not 16, maybe it would be easier, i've tried taking 2 Hero rangers to disrupt Nebo's spells, but they tend to hit spells that arent targeted at Shahai, and it also means i have to drop either my Hero Monk, or my MM, so it's harder to get to him too. How did everyone else do it? i've tried Life Bond and Prot Spirit, and even running past to the boat in the hopes to get away, but she still dies..

Prot Spirit?

For those of you having a tough time, this is what I ran to get through it:
1. Dervish (me) - Heart of the Holy Flame and Aura of Thorns for the burning and bleeding degen.
2. Monk Hero - Prot Spirit and Word of Healing
3. Elementalist Hero - Fire build (Double attunements + Meteor Shower)
4. Magrid (Ranger Hero) - Broad Head Arrow and Apply Poison with 2 interrupts
5. Healer Henchman
6. Healer Henchman
7. Eve (Necro henchman with BiP).
8. Illusionist henchman.
First, choose the WRONG password when the jailer asks, you save yourself 1:30-2 minutes of fighting that would be on the timer. Move through at a steady pace, watch your monks energy regen. At the end, wait until the Captain is at the forefront of the group and focus fire. The captain will most likely get a few spells off that will hit hard, but once you have him Dazed and two AI interrupters on him, he will be hard pressed to get any spells off successfully.
Yes, I know the priest is there, but with constant degen pressure from Poison, Bleeding, Burning, and Meteor showers, you should be able to drain the priest of his energy relatively quickly. Ignore the other enemies, your three monks and Eve should be able to maintain your health while you take out the Captain first.
Others may have different, or better ways, but that was my strategy after the Captain decimated my group the first time around.
Good luck

Interrupts - the more the merrier, Hero flags (so heroes dont Leroy), pulling
you may not have to fight all of them at once
you may not have to fight all of them at once

Sorry for the off topicness, but I took that quest as well and after getting the map I didn't get a new primary.
I've looked in all the towns for the next part and can't find it could someone tell me where to go next and who to speak to.

I would appreciate some ideas for completing this mission. I'm a level 20 Paragon with Koss, Dunkoro and Margrid heroes. I've tried this mission eight times, varying skills for me and my heroes, and trying different henchs. One of the enemy groups always spikes my group to kill us all instantly, and I can't tell who to target to use an interrupt.
I just found out, it isn't the spiking, it's Shahat being killed so fast. That ends the mission.

Miss Persephone
Guildie and I got masters on this first try with our heroes, running:
Degen/clumsitude mes human
MM hero
Fire nuker hero
Fire nuker hero
Barrage ranger human
Barrage ranger hero
Heal hero
Prot hero
I think having the minions must have been what made life a lot easier, they will take the brunt of the damage for you. I had no problems whatsoever with this mission.

MMs make the game way too easy.
on an idea to get with this mission is to turn one of your hero monks into a prot monk with protective spirit, max protection it should last for a good 16-21 seconds, with that in mind, keep your monk skill bar open and everytime before you enter a battle select shahai (click on her red bar) then click on your hero protective spirit skill, he/she should cast it on shahai, giving you and/or your monks time to react and heal shahai, i did it this way and successfully did it on my third try.

for some reason when I use broadhead arrow on an elementalist with no condition removal support and I have a few melee characters on my time, the ele just can't seem to cast anything. WEIRD.
La Bella Vita
I'm on this mission at the moment with my mesmer, and I just attempted it 4 times, failing all 4 of course, and it's all because that chick's sister keeps dying. On my 4th attempt, we at least got to the dock, but then the massive melee overload killed her (I think she might've been bodyblocked :S) because I tried to get them on me to no avail. :O Yeah, major cry of frustration at this mission, haha. lame.
Anyways, I'm going to attempt it again tomorrow I guess . Guess I will turn Olias into an MM. ;/

I found it quite easy and got it on the first try. Just pull mobs and exit through the more secluded path down the left side rather then trying to charge down the center of the stronghold.

Remember to do all of the optional objectives; one even gives you 3 or 4 Sunspears that you have to take to the jail cell. So you should have your party of 8 along with Kormir, Shannai, and the Sunspears. It helps a lot. Also, after you beat the two groups that rush in at the bridge area, wait a little bit, and the seemingly large group will separate into two groups, and one group will rush towards you. So sit back and regen/whatever and let the groups come. As for the Captain, take the priests out and then him asap. Make Olias a MM and bring Ward of Melee on your Ele.
qazwersder
Send in all of your hench first, hang back with the 2 ppl u just saved (i cant remember their names). Your hench will bodyblock the corner and the elementalist bosse's fireballs cant go through walls. A MM is also useful.
Wtf Is A Monk, if its the mission i think yr on about, take magrid the sly with broadheaded arrow. Take the fire djinn first, once its dazed its easy.

I don't know... didn't really have any trouble with it. My party roster was the same as usual:
1. me (derv)
2. Margrid (interrupter)
3. Dunkoro (Mo/Me healer)
4. Olias (MM)
5. Devona
6. Gehraz
7. Sogolon
8. Khim

For Magrid, I don't see a choice of broadhead arrow. What skill is that?
Where did you get Olias? What did I miss?
I don't have an elementalist, except for a henchman.

I don't have an elementalist, except for a henchman. Broad Head arrow is a Factions elite, don't know if it's also in Nightfall.
Olias can be gotten if you also have prophecies on that account, from Lion's Arch.

Broadhead Arrow is only Factions. Only Core skills get shared, the rest are exclusive.
I never had an issue with this mission...I did it first time through with henchmen...I guess I got lucky?

Bonder is your best friend.
You just take a monk hero and set bonder build.
I did that and pass this mission for 2 chars, same as Dasha.
Also, I set Margrid for R/Rt with
Pain, Bloodsong, Dissonance, Shelter, Union, Oath Shot
Works very nice

This mission is pretty easy if you use the time you have and don't rush. The only part you really need to watch is at the end where you face the Ele boss and 2 priests. The boss can spike you before you can take down the Priests. All in all, many of the solutions here should work well. I wasn't prepared for it when I henched it, but we did it. Came back with a guild group and it took us 4 tries....maybe a little luck is involved.
twentynine
Haha it took me and a friend several attempts to get this one down and we resorted to a really ghetto tactic to keep the level 16 NPC alive. As I am primarily spec'ed as a wammo tank, I stepped aside and let Koss do most of the heavy tanking for us. My role? Pick up stragglers and directly heal the NPC with Healing Breeze and Vigorous Spirit.
There was also a bit of luck involved at the end since Olias was an MM and his minions kept the elementalist boss body blocked around the corner near the boat.
It didn't even occur to us to use Prot Spirit. Doh!

I ended up beating this mission simply by charging past the last group of people with the ele hero and onto the docks. The two npcs followed and the mission ended.

I'm about to give this mission a try after failing first time out. Can anyone tell me if it messes up the bonus if you use the wrong password trick at the jailer?
Cryshal
Maybe that's the answer: henchmen instead of heroes?
What's Bonder?

What's Bonder?
lightblade
The deal is...too many people think Hero monks are superior to henchmen monk. In reality, that's not the truth. Henchmen have their AI programed specifically for that skill set, but hero monk doesn't know how to utilize that 150!/(150-8)! or more skill combinations.
If you want your monk to be smart on healing, bring henchmen monks and not heros. Use heros ONLY when the build is not availible from henchmen (i.e. flashbot, heal party spam, spoil victor, SS)

Same here, perhaps it's got something to do with not trying to use a Leeeroy Jenkins attitude towards it and think a little bit first

First off...This mission used to be a breeze because no one would attack that Lvl 16 guy. The first time I did it no prob. Since the update they attack him and can kill him in about 2 hits.
Having 3 monks didn't help much. I tried a bonder hero forced a bond onto the guy but then the hero removes it right away. Not sure why. I don't really need this mission right now, but where it used to be easily henchable....now you have to choose your skills carefully or bring a real healer to keep an eye on that Lvl 16 looser.

I don't understand what you mean, by hardest mission in the game...
I completed this mission 3 times, each time with masters on 3 different characters so far...with heroes / henchmen.
I'm not trying to brag or anything...I just really don't get the problem here.

I disagree - I have finished this mission using 10 characters (all classes)
I didnt always succeed on my 1st try due to getting too close and the Ele boss spiked the lvl 16
but its easier to win if you just stay back from the boss and let your Heroes pull
my usual setup when I do this
- I bring Magrid (required), Olias as MM, Koss for tanking/pulling
- 2 henchie monks
- 1 henchie mesmer - helps for interrupts
- 1 henchie paragon - defensive support
I never did anything special for the lvl 16 beyond keeping it out of battle

actually this works wonders if you have whats her face bonded or just bring mark of protection
barrage and pulling not too hard to get masters

To answer this one, I'd recommend to give the WRONG answer and kill the jailer before the timer, as you have to fight him on the clock otherwise. It does not mess up the bonus, in fact it buys more time.
Tobias Funke
I just hero/henched it with 7 minutes to spare. Granted I have a lot of elites for my heroes that maybe some others don't have, but it really was a cake walk. I highly recommend bringing Olias as a Minion Master. Now that I think about it, all the minions probably served as a nice meat shield for the NCPs you have to help escape. FYI I was a Balthazar Dervish with a healthy dose of AoE damage. Magrid was set up as a punishing shot interrupter (with some mesmer interrupts too). Make sure you lock her target on the ele boss at the end: the ele boss won't get anything off this way. My last hero was Zhed set as a searing flames ele. The henchies I took where Mhenlo and Khim (healers), Sogolon (Paragon) and Devona (warrior).
I also gave the right answer to the prison guard. Just play smart.

I recommend giving the wrong password to Jailor
- has no effect on Masters
- you gain a little more time because you kill them "off the clock"

This mission's fixed. Magrid's little sister as now lvl 20, heals herself when needed, and doesn't get attacked.
I too had problems with this. I tried it three times, third time realized there was a new build, loaded it up, went through mission, and noticed the additional 4 levels.
Best. Update. Eva. It made my day.

If it's fixed my two cents might not be worth much anymore, but it's a general tip so I'll post it anyway:
I often send my heroes and henchies ahead into battle (using flags) when I need to escort NPCs. Most NPCs stick close to a player, which is always you when you're going at it with just heroes and henchies. Standing back keeps the escortees out of danger entirely. There are of course also NPCs who work the other way around, moving by themselves and forcing you to keep up and protect them. Unless my memory is rotten, Shahai sticks with a player though.
This is of course based upon the assumption that your party can manage combat without you.
