Hero Battle? No, Hero run contest

So I go into the new hero battle arena looking to have a nice 4v4 match using my secert hero builds. 0.0 only problem is, i get there to find that that, oh, wait, its not about fighting , its about running back and forth to shrines like headless chickens. where did the vision of glorious, clean, no holds barred 4v4 action go? why is it now "whoever can run to the shrines fastest while distracting their enemy wins, cause once they have all the shrines your pretty much screwed" i tried just doing a nothing but all out attack, but no, you HAVE to get the shrines if your enemy is doing it. the only ones i managed to win was on an agreement of a no-shrine match. (btw i won ALL of those) Am i the only one angry about this? imho hero battles is nothing more than a gutless run fest.

I was kinda worried about this too, but from the couple times I played Hero battles I had a different experience. I thought there was only 1 central altar that awarded points, and the other altars only gave power bonuses. Seems like the set up if I understand it correctly should actually encourage people to fight (at the central altar) rather than run and capture altars.
Without the central altar you'd fight teams that just run to force a stalemate like in RA/TA.

thats what i thought too. and i would do nothing but fight on the central alter, and get about 10 kills. then they would have ALL the shrines. the power boosts add up, and with three of them, they would just outscore me.

IMO its called tactics... Never in a battle do both sides just attack, each one looks for certain advantages. In this case it is shrines.
Skyy High
God forbid it's not a "HULK SMASH" fest like Random Arenas.
Using Heros requires strategy. The hero arena's win conditions should therefore reward strategy.

ya, strategy. as in builds, wep & armor choice, and target calling. i call that strategy. sigh. i guess im alone in my dislike of the hero battle system. guess its back to killing wammo and touch in AB....

strategy involes more... ALOT more than that one lined sentence that you stated above.
You're going back to AB, which is exactly the same thing... I am so lost.
I never go for the central shrine first. I capture two shrines, go to the center and bully them out, hold the center and then maintain my capture of the three other shrines^^

i would preffer to fight in a deathmatch arena with my heros than capturing some shrines...

I generally use my ritulist to hold the center shrine while using my crip shot Hench to run around and control shrines, capping them behind the other team and running my Hench ranger away when they attempt to catch her. Illusion of speed is fun to use against other cripshotters with dual Ihexes against snare hexes. the whole point is for the ranger to be able to stay uncaught, while the ritulists painful bond communing offense makes the shrine formidable to take. Usually run an interrupt ranger and monk with rit at shrine.

I second that. I'll have to play more before I can decide if the non-center altars are too much of a nuisance and distract from the fighting aspect of gameplay. Maybe the bonuses the altars give should be toned down a bit, but I like the idea of a central altar to force a fight.
I hope everyone gives it a chance rather than just assume it's like AB's cause there's more fighting than capping.

Very much aggree, I was hoping it would be a 4v4 smash fest not chase people around shrines.

come one people, tactics are greatly needed here.
usually people will have 3 main team and 1 shrine runner, which is what i have mostly seen here. in some maps, for example, its a great advantage to cnotrol the siege cannon, since it damages for 100 per some seconds to the center shrine.
usually i run a sin ganker, myself as another ganker, a boon prot monk and a broad head arrow ranger, with the sin being the shrine runner mostly all the time, while i hold the center shrine.
if the whole team goes out to take out your shrines, thats at least 2 points while he is busy capping, then take your runner to recap once they try to push the center shrine

As in ha, hero battle can be pretty easily dominated by searing flames. Until you reach a good enemy, which in ha will be after a few maps, or in hero battle, after you get unlucky. One of the worst things possible in hero battle is the lack of rewards. You win, okay you had back. You gain more factions from suiciding to kill rather than playing a good game. There's no special reward for flawless, as far as i can remember, so it becomes bomb time.
derrtyboy69
I also wish it was a smash fest, but mabye it will get better once i learn how to use the shrines better.

Hero battles are the quickest way to get Faction, imo. Most people there are truly godawful, bringing terrible builds they use in PvE or what not and getting absolutely steam-rolled by anyone who's played any PvP. I've got it down that I win 90% or more of my battles in under 7 minutes.
Wouldn't mind a title though.

Shrines are an important part of the game. It makes hero battles take strategy. Think of them as mini GvG, in GvG, you don't rush to the flag stand(center base thing)and if you get beat go back and try again. You try and run your enemy across the map to gain an advantage.
I've only lost 4 matches today. 3 against the same person.(thats one strong build phear my spears) Both players had a stronger offense than my defense could take and they knew how to control the map for their advantage. We would pass each other, exchange kills and get some more bases. Although when we exchanged kills I was often the one taking the beating. Those players were smart. Even though their build could crush mine 1v1, they still captured bases.
I've won matches where it started 8 and 2 because they overpowered me by running around and capping bases while they stayed in the center waiting for me. Thats part of the strategy in hero battles. I think of it as ganking their guild lord in GvG. Sure you would've lost in a straight 1 on 1 fight, but so what?
I personally
