A few months ago, there was mention of profession changing bosses. This caused an uproar of excitement, since it was very innovative.

...however, it was mostly unused. Besides the Apocrypha, only the Graven Monoliths later in the game can change profession, but they have the same skills/transformations has the Apocrypha.

So, why was it hyped?

there was hype for it?

I only remember a review mentioning that the 2nd mission boss could change professions, i thouhgt it was cool, but nothing to get excited about.

I think the only thing peoplea re excited about is teh yet unfound profession changing hero

There was no media hype, it was only mentioned in a couple previews written by people who played Jokanur Diggings. Something along the lines of "and at the end we fought this neat boss who changed professions throughout the course of the battle."

The only hype involved was community hype, since some people jumped to the conclusion that this would be a major feature in the game, and all bosses would do this.

It's definitely wasted potential. It could have fundamentally changed how the game is played against bosses and made them a real challenge to fight. A good example is The Hunger. If he could swap to monk to purge conditions and swap to warrior to damage, he could have been more difficult than he is now. Right now, you just stand under the bridge so the archers can't get you and beat away.

We haven't been allowed into the elite mission area yet, perhaps there will be more bosses with multiple classes... However, I don't recall any hype surrounding this feature at all.

The "Hype" wasn't in the media, it was on Fan sites like this and GWonline.

People ASSUMED alot about the feature, making posts like::

"ZOMG, Bosses can CHanaGE Profs, HoW wll CAP SIG WorkK now? Hav'e To kill in SERTIAN FOrm to cap? Feckz you A'NET!!@@@!!@!@@@!!! "

... and his design was one of the worst among bosses I encountered in Guild Wars. I do not like shapeshifters at all when they only consist of a couple of random geometric objects.
