There is no time anymore to play all these, so what does one do? Delete them and concentrate on one character only? Help.

I've read posts by people that deleted all their characters to start GW fresh, I'd like to hear from them especially.

Well, don't delete.

But I've been focusing on my Necromancer only. I just don't have the time for other characters.

I personally don't believe in deleting characters I've worked on... and I've got one of every class. I just keep all of them, and change characters if I get bored of one or another. Don't have to try to play them all at once, after all. ^_^

I see it as a hinderance having 6 characters that need 20-60+ hours of work to be "up to date" with the game instead of playing 1 and being at an optimal point.

Back in prophecies, each character beat the game, had max 15k armor, fully unlocked primary & secondary skills, so it was logical to make a new character.

It would be a mistake to delete them, yes, but I know of people that have done this and I want to hear how it turned out.

I have had numerous characters over the past 15 months. DO NOT DELETE THEM. Of course that's my personal opinion. I deleted my very first character and am now regretting ever doing so. Concentrate on one character at a time. Get them everything you possibly can, then switch to another. I will never delete another character again unless I am really really sure I don't like them. Use the characters as mules if nothing else.

You can always get some stange loot or use them as a storage mule. remember birthday presents add up. Besides if you got all those chars then you can get any skill that you feel is needed on a build if you got the gold.

Why delete them? If you don't have time to play them all, what would you gain from deleting them? You are losing the time invested in the characters for no reason. It's not like you need the slots, as you don't have the time to play them all anyway so you won't be making more.

Just try farming in different places and trying out different ways of playing the game. Maybe make some goals, like getting a 15k set for all of them or getting some nice weapons.

I, as you were saying, would advice go on farming and get all the l33t stuff for them all.

Since farm got the nerf stick, either play PvP, as you have a broad choice of skills/items/characters or find urself a new game

I have eleven characters and it's very discouraging to know that I have to reach Sunspear General on all of them. If the Sunspear title was an account title instead of a character title I could live with it, but as it is it's just ridiculous.

Having eight characters puts you at a definite advantage. For instance, in a month or two, someone will discover a new farming built, most likely, utilizing skills from all three campaigns. Having eight characters will put you into the action before a nerf.

A guildmate deleted her Rits because she did not like the spirits, and, within days, she found out about the VwK farming built. She is still kicking herself.

I once deleted a Warrior that only made it to Lion's Arch because I didn't like his appearence. I also have one of each charater, except the Warrior. I just never found the motivation to level one up again. By the way, I have six characters that completed both Prophesies and Factions and would never consider deleting any of them.

Don't delete them. If you don't play on them, then you could just use them as extra storage and a way to get more Birthday presents.

I've deleted several characters, most of them before Beacon's Perch.

I merch ALL their stuff (weapons, armor, etc)...salvage and keep major/superior runes of course.
Then deposite the money/runes in my storage account.

Basically use the characters I see as failed experiments to beef up the characters I'm actually enjoying.

You don't have to play all of them.

Focus on one character, finish the game with him, then pick your next character to do the same.

Think of your characters as a buffet of choices, rather than a to do list, and you'll get much more enjoyment out of them.

Perhaps this is the same as 'locked cities' in Factions, but it is seriously looking like Grind Wars

I too have more toons than time for them all. My mesmer is a mule now. I kinda "fall in love" with one of them and they get a lot of attention for a while, then I move onto another. If you have a toon available for any particular area you can play then just play the one you feel like at the time.

I feel no particular need to unlock all skills for any profession, just those I wish to use.

Put the peanut in the peanut hole!

I, also, have 12 character, and I got 10 of them through Cantha.
Now that there is 2 more characters (of course I had to make them too) i'm already feeling overdrowned in all the crap I have to do 12 times.
So I pretty much gave up on NF. ATM.
Maybe just get my Dervish and Paragon thru. :[

Make titles account-based, not character?

I deleted a 20 E/Mo around a year ago, and I still regret doing it. Don't delete your 20's. On the other hand, I've deleted lots of low-level and mid-level chars, and not regretted it (not too much time invested). Incidentally, I've got 9 20's, a lvl14 in pre-searing, and 3 nightfall characters I'm working on across 2 accounts, so I really know where you're coming from. I wish I could play them all more often, but there isn't enough time. My solution for now is to use my 1st account for storage (4 20's there, 2 lowbies) and my second for regular play (5 20's, a pre-searing char, and 3 lowbies in NF). And if you just feel like starting fresh, I'd add a character slot or even buy an extra account rather than deleting a 20 you've put serious time into.

I would suggest the same things that the other folks have.. Hold onto the characters and either us them as storage or play them when you get around to it. I currently have 2 characters.. soon to be 3-5 playing around in all 3 campaigns.. I usually play my dervish with my gf and my others with henchies or heroes or the occasional pug when we aren;t playing together..

Having fun going out ahead with my mesmer right now to feel the way for when the new characters get to new parts of NF.

Oh and as for the sunspear thing... It's not really hard or timeconsuming once you hit the mainland and get 4 points per kill Just pick up the bounties at the res shrines and play as normal.. The title levels will come rather easily and quickly.. Little to no farming or grind needed.

I get a bit puzzled when I hear someone say "now I have to do this x times with all my characters". ??? Unless I'm missing something, after getting max weapon and armor, and hitting lvl 20, a character doesn't really *have* do do anything.

GW has to put in enough of a grind for those that wish to continue playing and advancing their characters. But if you stop having fun, for heaven's sake, stop playing and take a break for a while. That's the whole point of GW - you don't *have* to grind continuously to stay competetive.

I have 6 level 20 chars. I'm still trying to get Protector titles for each of them (3 done, and the 4th one is almost done ). After that, I just let them collect dust >.<

I have 11 characters, 3 are mules (one is a new one, replacing an old one I wish to play now). 6 are level 20, 2 are new nightfall characters I am currently playing-----

I suggest you play one for a while, forget about the others, and then in a few months when you are tired of that character play one of the older ones again, will be like a new character without having to grind to level 20 again!

(I have been working on titles with my characters as well. hope to get them all at least 90%mapping of each land and 80%of the missions completed with bonus/masters......and ALL elites for their primary [most for the 2ndary], and all the skills for primary as well----I dont change 2ndarys either....)

so with this new chapter, I am playing one new character and 1 or 2 of the older ones......when I finish with them I may play the others (though my canthan monk doesnt want to go to elonia, doesnt like the armor). I cant just play one character thru the whole thing, I need to take breaks, which is why I have about 3 characters I plan on playing for a while, then going back for the others.

Yes I think this is going to be more and more of an issue for people as the game goes on. Definately should not delete characters you spent effort on.

For my part, I have decided to concentrate on 2 of my 6 PvE characters, a Monk and a Ranger. I just don't have the time to play all the others through 3 chapters. Though I must say the whole "no running" issue in Cantha and Nightfall doesn't help when you have lots of chars.. but what to do?

I would delete them. Keep your favourites or the ones you need (for example, I don't particularly like playing a warrior in PvE, but having one complete the game is useful for when a friend needs running somewhere). An RPG is a game you should enjoy, not a job where you have to get as many characters as possible to finish it.

I certainly don't think you should be creating one character for every class. I get plenty enough chance to experiment playing other things in PvP, far more than I would in PvE. But there are some classes that I really enjoy playing above all others, and those are the ones that I have stuck with through 3 campaigns. There are occasionally times when I think "ah, would be nice to be a mesmer for a change". Maybe I even go so far as to create one, but they never last long. Usually leave pre-searing, get bored of them, they grow dust, and eventually get deleted.

The best thing to do in your situation is concentrate on your favorite character maxing out stuff and making him the best he can be. Delete most of the others. except one or two just to keep for farming and general change of pace. With many characters you will never get anything done as they distract from each other and draining your gold, also all your toons end up being half-baked and scattered around the game with no titles, few skills, and crappy equipment never completing anything.

Meh, since the launch of Guild Wars i have killed off so many PvE characters of mine. And the one i mostly regret deleting was the first character i actually made (a Wamo.. o the horror!). I guess i was just looking for the "right" profession to play with.

Luckily i have grown attached to some of my characters (my ritualist and ranger) so i really doubt they will see the mists any time soon!

On a Different Note... how Great would it be to have those characters you have worked hard on leveling to BE your Heroes.

I mean going around with a Squard of your own characters.

Obviously in some ways this would unbalance the game because you could just make 5 Rangers and go Touch or Trap etc etc. the current way it works obviously limits the ammount of each class. but you can have 2 rangers 2 eles 2 warriors etc etc...

Just think it would be Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

I've got 10 right now and still got a few coming (1 perma-presearing Tyria, 1 another warrior to use my extra wpns my primary doesnt). the biggest problem, I believe, is the locked gates in Cantha. there's no problem in Tyria, and I don't see a major problem in Elona yet (most places I've been to have been open). The first time in a campaign I play it straight through with a native character (to play it from the n00b perspective on n00b island/pre-searing). Afterwards, I only want to get into areas to cap elites, farm some greens, and stuff like that. the best thing they can do is unlock all gates for an account that has beaten the game. Of course in Cantha, you have to do the missions to get to the next area (Eternal Grove Mission doesn't have access to Eternal Grove Explorable, etc)...

keep them until you feel like playing them...

Elona is locked at some areas

on starter isle,
cannot gain access to BlackTide Den unless you completed 2nd mission

on mainland,
- cant get to Vabbi unless you do missions
- cant get beyond Dunes of Despair unless you do missions
- cannot skip missions

the pre-reqs can be a big problem.

there are two missions that you cannot skip in Tyria if you want to get to all the landmasses - Sanctum Cay and Thunderhead Keep - though in order to get to all the elites you have to do each of the fire islands missions to get to the next one. however, I admit that in Tyria you can skip the previous missions whereas you can't in Cantha and you may not be able to in Elona (I haven't tried).

ultimately unlocking all gates after completing the game for the account would not hurt anyone at all I don't believe. it's hard to justify keeping them there to keep noobs out when they already (the player, not to be confused with the character) finished the game once. I haven't finished Elona yet so I don't know if it does that or not.

back to the question.. keep them all, you've got the slots and deleting them doesn't save you anything (maybe a more bland login screen)....

I used to think it would be great to have a slot for each character class. That way I could play each class without having to delete a character I loved.

The argument (or point - which ever you choose to call it) about the b-day gifts is a valid one... if your into the whole mini-pet thing. I got mine and gave it to a guildie... just not enough storage to deal with such a useless item IMO.

I've now deleted several characters and restarted classes that I loved playing. The thing is, I do not regret deleting them; with one exception. I deleted a Rit when Anet first said the class would get nothing new in Nightfall... days later, I found out they would... doh! Luckily, I loved the class, so remaking it was both fun and rewarding.

I've now got a couple of rangers (my favorite class) set up differently. Why? Cause I play to have fun, and I find that fun to do. I, just as you, bought the game so feel free to play it as you feel you want too.

It's also great being able to play one ranger with an old Tyrian Wolf one day, then the next pick up the Canthan ranger with a new Hyena pet and play.

Do what you feel you will have the most fun with. If you have second thoughts about deleting a character you love, don't delete it. If you have no second thoughts, delete it and keep playing.

I have 10 characters (one for each primary profession); 6 of them are lv20, the others are lv 6-16. I always like to change and play something new every once in a while, so this setup is perfect for me. Of course, unless you spend a LOT of time, won't have a character that has EVERYTHING, loads of maxed titles, etc, but that's the price to pay for variety, and I think it's a good price .

BTW no, I've never deleted a char who has lived for more than a couple hours, I never intend to. I just grow attached to the little guys, even if I don't play them a lot. Oh, and there's also the fact that they get minipets in their birthdays

I deleted a lvl20 Monk with FoW pants to make a monk in Factions with better hair. This chapter, I deleted my oldest character (an ele) in order to make a NF ele with better hair. I played Diablo 2 for a long time and was accustomed to "Oh, crap! I put a point in the wrong spot. I have to start over." To me it's no big deal to start a new PvE character. I am probably the single biggest gold sink in this game. I can destroy gold faster than I can farm it. Not merely transfer gold, but actually destroy it. (Buying & then salvaging 15k armors, experimenting with dyes to the tune of 200k per experiment, etc.) Although my coffers are much slimmer right now due to simultaneously starting 4 new characters, I still have ~400k + items. My Koss hero on my monk has a perfect req 8 15% (stanced) Chaos axe that was sitting in storage. I hadn't sold it yet, so Koss got pimped out. All of my caster henchies use 1-3k greens staves from ToPK. (Best investment ever. I bought 30 of them. I still need more though.)

If it makes you happy and allows you to enjoy the game by making new characters, then do it. If it makes you happy to focus on just one character, do that. This is a game and it should be fun. If you don't find farming fun, don't do it. Replay through your favorite areas instead. You'll make almost as much profit and you'll enjoy the time you spent instead of resenting it.
