Welcome to version 2.0 of the Nightfall Armor Guide. Already many people have beaten Nightfall and purchased some of the new armor sets available in Elona, others are still struggling through and looking ahead to see what armors will be available to purchase. The purpose of this guide is to provide a complete gallery of all the armors available in Nightfall, as well as where to get them and what they cost. Note that these pictures are NOT mine, this is simply a compilation of images posted by people on GWO and GWG, as well as a few submitted specifically for the guide. If any of the images are not displaying, my Imageshack bandwidth has probably been exceeded- wait a while and then try again. Please be considerate of your fellow forumgoers and not waste my bandwidth by direct-linking an image or loading it over and over- instead save it to your computer if you need to use it for reference. There are seven types of armor available in Nightfall, plus new Obsidian armor sets for the Paragon and Dervish:

• Istani armor: Available throughout Istan, as well as the Sunspear Sanctuary.
• Sunspear armor: Available throughout Istan, as well as the Sunspear Sanctuary.
• Elonian armor: Available throughout Istan, as well as the Sunspear Sanctuary.
• Elite Sunspear armor: Available at the Sunspear Sanctuary.
• Vabbian armor: Available at the Kodash Bazaar.
• Ancient armor: Available at the Bone Palace.
• Primeval armor: Available at the Throne of Secrets following the final mission.
• Obsidian armor: Available at the Temple of War in the Fissure of Woe.

Note that all armor sets are NOT available to all professions:

Core professions (W, R, Mo, E, N, Me) have two 1k armor sets (Istani and Sunspear), all four elite armor sets (Elite Sunspear, Vabbian, Ancient, Primeval), and Obsidian armor.
Nightfall professions (P, D) have all of the above armor sets, plus a third 1k armor set, Elonian.
Factions professions (A, Rt) only have the Vabbian and Ancient armor sets, plus Obsidian.

Elementalist Armor

Headgear

Note that elementalist Nightfall headgear is generic- that is, they are not associated with any specific armor set. Generic elementalist headgear can be crafted at any armor crafter except the Kodash Bazaar crafter, who has Vabbian headgear. Elementalist Nightfall headgear has the same appearance as Tyrian headgear.

Appendix A: Armor Crafter Locations

*SPOILER WARNING* This section contains (very minor) spoilers. If you'd rather not learn the location or existence of certain towns in Elona, you should skip this section.

Istani/Sunspear/Elonian Armor: There are two locations where you can aquire a max AL version of these armors. The first is in the Consulate Docks mission staging area in Istan, which you arrive at by completing the primary quest "The Time Is Nigh". This armor can also be purchased from the armor crafter in your Command Center once you reach the Sunspear Sanctuary in Kourna. To enter your Command Center, simply leave the Sanctuary by the north portal. The armor crafter (and any other merchant NPCs you aquire) will be over on the left.

Elite Sunspear Armor: Like the above armors, Elite Sunspear armor can be crafted in your Command Center. However, the crafter of this armor, Ahamid, is not there at the start and must be obtained through a quest. You can add him to your Command Center by doing the quest "Building the Base: Prisoners of War", given by Dunkoro in the Command Center.

Vabbian Armor: Vabbian Armor is aquired in the Kodash Bazaar in Vabbi. You arrive in the Bazaar by completing the mission Tihark Orchid.

Ancient Armor: Ancient Armor is aquired in the Bone Palace in the Desolation. You arrive in the Palace by completing the quest "A Deal's a Deal".

Primeval Armor: Primeval Armor is aquired in the Throne of Secrets upon completing the final mission of the game. Like the Divine Path in Cantha, the Throne of Secrets is a stand-alone explorable area that is only accessible by completing the mission. Be sure to bring your platinum and materials into the final mission, since there is no Xunlai Agent in the Throne of Secrets.

Obsidian Armor: Obsidian Armor is obtained from the Eternal Forgemaster in the Fissure of Woe. To enter the Fissure of Woe, your region must have the favor of the gods. Kneel at the Statue of Balthazar in the Temple of the Ages (Tyria), Zin Ku Corridor (Cantha), or Chantry of Secrets (Elona) and donate 1 platinum to the Champion of Balthazar. Once in the Fissure, complete the quests "The Eternal Forgemaster", "Defend the Temple of War", and "Restore the Temple of War" to get the Eternal Forgemaster to craft armor for you.

Appendix B: Armor Costs

Though the armors cost different materials for different profession, each armor set follows a specific formula for determining how many materials you need. The following numbers are for a headpiece, gloves, or boots- multiply the materials (but not the gold cost) by 2 for the cost of leggings and by 3 for the cost of a chestpiece.

Istani armor: 1 platinum, 25 common crafting materials, 4 rare crafting materials
Sunspear armor: 1 platinum, 25 common crafting materials, 4 rare crafting materials
Elonian armor: 1 platinum, 25 common crafting materials, 4 rare crafting materials
Elite Sunspear armor: 15 platinum, 50 common crafting materials, 5 rare crafting materials
Vabbian armor: 5 platinum, 25 common crafting materials, 4 rare crafting materials, 2 rubies, 2 sapphires
Ancient armor: 10 platinum, 50 common crafting materials, 5 rare crafting materials
Primeval armor: 15 platinum, 50 common crafting materials, 5 rare crafting materials
Obsidian armor: 15 platinum, 50 common crafting materials, 5 rare crafting materials, 15 globs of ectoplasm, 15 obsidian shards

For some armors, instead of a rare crafting material a second common crafting material (of ten times the amount that would be needed for a rare) is listed. Also, for some armor sets Monstrous crafting materials are needed- for these two each of two kinds of monstrous materials are needed instead of five of a rare crafting material.

Finally, headpieces for elementalists, paragons, monks, and necromancers follow their own formula. Elementalist and paragon headpieces require 25 piles of glittering dust (50 for Obsidian), with the appropriate rare crafting materials for Vabbian or Obsidian armor. Monk and necro headpieces require 5 rolls of parchment and 3 vials of ink for a 1k or Vabbian headpiece (with the added gem cost for Vabbian armor), or 10 rolls of parchment and 5 vials of ink for an elite headpiece.

Appendix C: Gems

Gems have always been around in Guild Wars, but they've only recently been given a use in Nightfall with Vabbian armor. A full set of Vabbian armor requires 16 rubies and 16 sapphires, which at a current market price of 5k each makes for a VERY expensive armor set (almost 200k).

Not to worry though, there are ways to aquire gems besides buying them wholesale or hoping for a lucky drop in the wilderness. By doing quests in Vabbi you recieve items called Trade Contracts, which can be exchanged for items at Vabbi Trade Officials in Kodash Bazaar. 7 Trade Contracts can be traded in for one ruby, sapphire, or diamond. While it's unlikely that you'll ever accumulate enough contracts to fund a full set of Vabbian armor, it can help lower the price tag.

You can also salvage gems from Djinn Essences, the collector item dropped by high-level djinn. There is a djinn for each gem type (ruby, sapphire, diamond). The chance of successfully salvaging a gem seems to be extremely low however, most of the time you'll just get Glittering Dust.

Though you can find Diamonds, there is no apparant use for them yet. It seems that ANet finally resolved the mystery of rubies and sapphires only to give us another mystery...

Appendix D: Armor Stats

Unlike Tyrian and Canthan armor, Elonian armor comes with no bonus stats (such as Gladiator's energy bonus or Wanderer's armor bonus versus elemental damage). The armors must be upgraded with Insignias, which can be purchased from the Rune Trader or salvaged off of monster armors. While this grants much greater flexibility in your armor selection, it also makes crafting a set more expensive and time-consuming. A list of the various insignias that you can upgrade your Nightfall armor with follows:

Generic Insignias (can be used by any profession)

• Survivor: +health (varies by body part)
• Radiant: +energy (varies by body part)
• Stalwart: +10 armor vs. physical
• Brawler's: +10 armor while attacking
• Blessed: +10 armor while enchanted
• Herald's: +10 armor while holding an item
• Sentry's: +10 armor while in a stance

Warrior Insignias

• Dreadnought: +10 armor vs elemental
• Knight's: -3 to physical damage
• Lieutenant's: Hex duration -20% and -5% reduction to damage, -20 to armor
• Sentinel's+20 armor vs elemental (req 13 Strength)
• Stonefist+1 second to knockdown time

Ranger Insignias

• Frostbound: +15 armor vs cold
• Earthbound: +15 armor vs earth
• Pyrebound: +15 armor vs fire
• Scout's: +10 armor while using a preparation
• Stormbound: +15 armor vs lightning
• Beastmaster's: +10 armor while your pet is alive

Monk Insignias

• Wanderer's: +10 armor vs elemental
• Disciple's: +15 armor while affected by a condition
• Anchorite's: +armor for recharging skills (up to 5)

Necromancer Insignias

• Blighter's: +20 armor while hexed
• Bloodstained: -25% cast time of corpse exploitation spells
• Bonelace: +15 armor vs piercing
• Minion Master's: +armor for controlling minions (up to 5)
• Tormentor's: +10 armor, +Light damage (varies by body part)
• Undetaker's: +armor for low health (down to 20%)

Mesmer Insignias

• Virtuoso's: +15 armor while activating skills
• Artificer's: +armor for equipped signets
• Anchorite's: +armor for recharging skills (up to 5)

Elementalist Insignias

• Aeromancer's: +10 armor vs elemental, +10 armor vs lightning
• Geomancer's: +10 armor vs elemental, +10 armor vs earth
• Hydromancer's: +10 armor vs elemental, +10 armor vs cold

• Windwalker: +armor for being enchanted (up to 5)

Appendix E: Improvements to the Guide

With version 2.0 I was able to add and clean up a lot of stuff that the first guide was lacking, but there's still things I'd like to improve on. Once I've gathered enough new material I'll post a third and final version of the guide.

Ways in which you can help:

Better armor pictures. There are still some pictures in the armor gallery that are rather small, low-resolution, clipped, or have the HUD on. If you see a bad pic and own that particular armor set, snap a screenshot and post it here.

Guidelines for posting pictures:

• Zoomed-in as much as possible- I can shrink a big picture, but I can't enlarge a small one
• Straight on, in good lighting (from the login screen would be best)
• High-quality render- no pics of other characters in town
• Don't clip the top or the bottom of the armor off the edge of the screenshot
• Complete armor sets only, don't mix-and-match
• Display the headpiece, if there is one
• Gray/undyed is preferred, but any color is acceptable
• Turn the HUD off, no character names (either yours or another player's)
• If the picture isn't from the login screen, turn off your guild cape

Proofreading. While I tried to double-check material requirements as much as possible, there's still a possibility that I wrote Leather Squares when it should be Elonian Leather Squares, or Bolts of Damask when it's supposed to be Bolts of Linen. If you see a mistake in the material listings, let me know and I'll change it. Same goes for anything else in the guide- some of the information in the appendices may be inaccurate, especially appendices A through C.

Paragon FoW armor (especially male) officially has the most kickass design in the game.

I noticed that with the female ele armor, the more you pay, the more material is included. So the people who have complained about the excess of skin showing for the ele can get complete coverage, but at a high price.

About a gigabyte so far... EDIT: After browsing a little, it looks like Imageshack has much better bandwidth options (100MB/hr for each image, rather than 10GB/month for the whole account). I'll probably re-upload everything to an Imageshack account later so I don't run into bandwidth issues.

Paragon Fissure Of Woe armor is such a dissapointment. I mean really...just look at it. I was expecting something elaborate with gold wings and fringes and all it looks like to me is they (ANET) gave up after the "so-so" Dervish FOW armor. God i wish they would accept some of the suggestions and fan art or get a better FOW armor designer because personally i think that the FOW armor should be something that stands out in the crowd....ALOT. The paragon just is bleh..teh suck.

I did finally find an image for it, funny story actually... Was dancing in huge Mad King mob in Kamadan waiting for him to arrive; I got bored so I started checking out the characters dancing by me. Lo and behold, there was a ritualist with that armor dancing right behind me

Nope, it's Ancient Armor. FoW armor has excellent head piece that makes you think they'll break their neck rather then being wrapped in bandages.
