They have made it harder.

When the game first came out Some of my guildies and I were going though pretty quick, skipping alot of the quests and hitting the main missions. We got to this one.... about... 5 days in (( We wern't flying but with jobs and actual real lives 5 days was pretty quick for us)) With 3 of us we got though with a bit of trouble but we got though.

Since one of the Guildies in our little group has peeled off for work stuff and the other is doin' that PS3 thing, so I started over, taking things slow, doing alllll the quests and stuff.

I this did it day before yesterday and it was about 5 times harder. I got Slammed more than once and for some reason my lag was like... 5 minutes.

Mission started and the screen wasn't even loaded. By the time I could even move the group was past the first set of enemies... constant lag.. I got killed before the first set of stairs.

The entire mission it lagged like crazy, I kept getting killed and rezzed. Power spiked with out even knowing I was being hit because I was getting one in... 200 frames... it was horrid.

So I too think they've jacked this one up a bit. The first time we went though it was NOTHING like it is now.

It's not impossible.. but it's not what I'd call cake and pie right now.

Blood wells is how I done it, sent henchies/heroes first to take aggro and I just stood out of combat range and spammed wells and launched the occasional spike at a boss.

People that has had 2 years or so to tweak their builds and learn the game shouldnt use those invalid arguments when NF does a piss poor job of teaching you the game, and gives you new skills at a frustrating low rate

While i had no particular problems with this mission myself, there has been other areas that i found frustratingly hard when i have had no time to get any new skills and the only way i got through it was to ask on unofficial forums
Having to rely on 3rd party sources to accomplish something because the game assumes you arent a new player to GW with NF shouldnt be required...

Watching the video sequence at the end of the mission showed him getting captured

Here's what worked for me:

I had picked Sousuke instead of Jin. Gave him Firestorm, Liquid Fire, Inferno, Glyph of Lesser Energy, Fire Attunement, Protective Spirit and Protective Bond. [Disclaimer: Protective Bond is a prophecies skill, and every time Protective Bond kicks in to reduce damage, you lose 4 energy. No big deal if you have lots of energy or have low energy and can still function when you run out] Had Sosuke put Protective Bond on one of the monks, and I gave myself Protective Bond and Protective Spirit, and kept Protective Bond on the second monk. With Protective Bond on each monk, they can't take more than 5% damage from anything, so they weren't getting ganked and we were free to use Protective Spirit on the rest of the team as necessary, so all the ganking problems stopped.

Sosuke would cast Firestorm whenever there was a group of enemies, and that would help because they would get down to about half health and break off their attack. After failing the mission like 5 times, with this setup I passed it easily.

Without reading ahead on this mission I did first at lvl 15

Following the onscreen prompts I hurried to where I was "told" to go missing first field commander

cleared the seige catapault thing but totally my fault chose to go to left stair case, hadn't even killed last mob when cinematic came on

got regular score

now I have rescued koss and am trying to get master but there is never a field commander on the left staircase for me to kill......

Hope I can do this without a pug group but is that only solution?

thanks for any help you can give me

I brought my MM. Beat it the first time, not one henchie died, including little old lv6 dunkoro. I beat it on my second try with my dervish, only because Lonai glitched and didn't summon minions the first time

lol. Didn't have much trouble with low level level 10 dunkoro and my assassin. But then I brought Takihora who was bonder. Got through with mastery

after killing off the archer go to the commander and kill him first. no matter how much guards/bowmen etc there are kill the commander and that stops the spawning.

The Consulate Dock Shield is blinking!

I am looking to not only get off this island and to the mainland but, get to Lions Arch as well. I am LVL 18 Dervish my quest log is empty and I need “The Time Is Nigh.” Can’t find who has it, I may have had it before but failed the mission first time at level 7. Now can’t enter or find the mission at all. My paragon still has the quest “The Time is Nigh” but my Dervish is stuck. I tried joining a group, but the game would not let them take me.
I already have 6 LVL 20 characters in Guild Wars so I do understand the game. I found that Nightfall seemed to be a real step but step quest opening process. I have scanned “Common Nightfall problems, mission sequence” but I can’t seem to find the answer.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm redoing this mission for the fun of it, for caps, for drops, etc. I use a four-character team of level 20s -- two Searing Flames nukers (inc. Sousoke), an MM (Olias), and a healer (Dunkoro). The MM has a super self-defense build, but there's nothing special on the nukers.

Now, you can't exactly imitate that, since on has to get past the mission to get Searing Flames. And unless you have Prophecies you can get neither decent nuking skills or Olias. But how about some ranger Barraging as a high-damage substitute?

As for the siege explosions, there's a simple answer -- don't stand in them. If one spot seems especially unhealthy, move to another one.

Oh yeah. Two of my heros have the Power Leech/Leech Signet combo for energy. So that's a potential 8 interrupts per minute for my team. Maybe that matters.

Why make you monks monk/eles? Is there a reason? Please say you're not trying to nuke with them cause that would be the reason right there. Are you taking henchies? Cause all you need is to make you monks into monk/mesmers, slap leech sig and power drain on them and make them prot monks. Take Khim and between the three of them you could just run through the whole mission doing nothing but pick up loot. Your warrior hero and henchies are more than enough to kill everything with 3 monks taking care of them. And if you've got a lvl20? Level up your heroes or don't use them. Seriously, if 4 lvl20's and 4 lvl15's can't do this mission you need to rethink your builds.

As I said before, 4 Level 20s can do it without help from Level 15s. I imagine with the right build fewer than 4 can do it, but that would be hard until you know the mission really well. I actually died in 1 of my 4 tries so far at doing it with a squad of 4.

And in saying that, I've just revealed one of the things I'm currently doing for farming.

I failed the mission with -55% DP my first try... so I asked the guild alliance for some help. They joined in with their lv 20 heroes and what not. They were past the first set of stairs and bowmen by the time I loaded into the game. We swept through with bonus in about 15 mins... I couldn't do it without them.

Just group with someone with a level 20 mm pug or hero. Much better than nukers in this mission.

Any help would be appreciated. You will find out that many of the towns 'blinks' but you might not be able to do mission because you don't have the necessary requirements. Someone can probably run you into the Docks but Elonian chars have to do a bunch of quests and missions before you can do the mission there. You will have to run back to towns and you probably didn't talk to someone to get your primary quest.

I don't understand why a considerable amount of players are having problems with NF at this early stage. Sorry to be direct, but you'll most probably run into bigger obstacles later on if u struggle here. I played NF through the 1st time on my monk and this mission was like "kill kill kill, move on, kill more kill faster = the end". Actually the only mission in NF that required me to re-enter more than twice was.. the celebration of lyssa's day or something similar where u gotta convince 3 princes.

I just beat this mission for the first time, on my first try.

I used:
Koss (16)
Tahlkora (16)
Dunkoro (16)
Illu Hench
Devona
Cynn
and Derv Hench

Only one or two henchies died throughout the whole thing, thought it was easy when I was done.

Honestly, I didn't even realize there were ranger spikes or ele bombs in it. I just ran up the steps and starting beating up on the rangers. I'm a Paragon/Necro by the way, you know, just spamming Anthem of Flame and Aria of Zeal when it got tough.

There was a MM somewhere... One of the NPCs is a MM, there were tons of minions running around (which probably helped alot).

Like Curar said above, It's the spotters that are causing the seige attacks. I didn't know this right away either, but figured it out along the way. What I did to begin with was hit and run tactics. I'd run up to a group and start attacking. If the seige attacks started, I'd finish off the enemy I was working on, then I'd fall back. Of course that would cause the spotter to chase us and the seige attacks would stop while we ran. Once we got ourselves back together, we'd lay into them again and usually defeat the group on the second round of attacks.

But eventually I figured out the seige stopped when the spotter went down, so taking out the spotter became a priority.

It's kinda funny, I blew through the mission first try with no problems using my Paragon, I don't even remember if I was using heroes/hench or other players.

Then I decided to take my favorite character through, a N/E, and got cocky and got utterly destroyed. Puzzled, I tried again, and died again. Took my assassin through and easily got masters with a human group (Force Commanders don't last long 1v1 against an assassin with sustained combo chain). Finally tried once more with my Necro in a human group and had no problems.

It's all in the spike damage--use a tank with some buffs up on him to absorb the first spike, then nuke the archers and have someone run back and keep the Force Commander busy to keep him from using the siege attack.

Very helpful discussion. I forgot how much strategy is involved in this game (just started playing Nightfall after laying off Prophecies for a while). One strategy that I sometimes forget is RUN AWAY! If you are getting blasted by the bombardier or ganged by the bad guys, retreat and resurrect your henchmen. I nearly made it through with this rudimentary plan, so with the tips in this thread, I should be OK. Thanks. OBTW, can anyone recommend a good guild with a webpage and helpful members? Most of the ones in the list have no activity on their webpages.

Really, this mission is cake. All you need is 2 mm's and you'll blow through it. You'll pick up another mm about half way through, but no worries. This mission was made for mm's and there are PLENTY of bodies. There's no trouble at all keeping up max minions all the way through and you just zerg rush everybody. There really is no need for special tactics or skills. Watch Yourself may help though I guess, but I don't see that it's really needed.

I completed this mission with a lv 15 paragon, heroes and heches, no problem
didn't get the bonus though
Then I did it again for the caps, fun mission

and yea, always kill the SPOTTERS

PS I do have all the core skills and elite skills for my Heroes, so that helped a bit ^_^
