I have to say this mission is extremely unbalanced. It's not impossible because obviously people have finished the game but my point is: The Undead Linch is easy enough but Shiro with his impossible odds just takes out an entire team. I know there is skills you can use that help some but it's the *imbalnce* that bugs me the most. On top of that that the blessings from the gods barely help if at all in the battle. So the statement of this petition is:
Please A.Net, take a hard look at this mission and see if some adjustments should be done. Thank you.
Petition: Fix The Gate of Madness Mission *Contains Spoilers*

I didn't have any problem at all, I walked to the altars, killed their guards with the lich and Shiro beating on me, captured them all and then proceeded to turn around and tear the Lich and Shiro to shreds, in that order. (I was playing a Life Transfer necro as MM wasn't as useful in the Realm of Torment missions as blood)

I've played it a few times with henches and PuGs and Shiro uses that nasty stance of his every 8 seconds. This isn't a problem if he only did it to a melee class but he goes after monks and other casters with it. I just didn't have enough to heal that much damage from one target over so short of time. Otherwise the mission seems doable.
I finished this last night with a group of 4 other real people. Or maybe 5, I don't remember exactly. The first time we tried it, we got to Shiro, got him to 1/3 health and then he demolished it. When we were finally able to do it, we were well prepared. We knew then what we needed to take in order to beat him. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass. He does a lot of damage and does not take much. It's still quite possible.
Now that people have actually done it, they can tell others how to properly beat it, or at least prepare them for what needs to be done. I'm sure that the more people that do it, the more efficient it will yet become. I see no problem, really.

I don't agree with taking out Impossible Odds. I completed the mission without any help of the gods with my Dervish using heroes/henchies so it's very doable and nobody died. Just be glad Shiro doesn't have Meditation of the Reaper and doesn't Banish. He has already been toned down. Taking out Impossible Odds would make him too easy.

I can't state strongly enough that Anet SHOULD NOT cater to those that just want to finish the game as quickly as possible. There has been far too much "dummying down" already imo. Too many players get games and want to finish them as quickly as possible (hench the godmode cheats for so many games) and then move on to something different.
These aren't the players that make up the "community" who have faithfully played the game since the introduction of Prophecies and have purchased every chapter. Since NF has only been out for a week, it is WAY to soon to pay any attention to these sort of requests.

I just want to finish this one mission and, while you all seemed to float right through it, many of us havent. Maybe we just arent as uber skilled as you all but I have tried it for 2 days with multiple groups and it is quite frustrating waltzing through the level with no problems until 1 skill from 1 almost dead boss kills us time and time again. Wow that does sound fun huh? I mean why dont the server just kick us right before we kill Shiro every time...that is the way it feels anyway...it is nice to hear all you experts chiming in telling us how easy it was without telling us how you did it...and those who did were as amibiguously vague as possible..."use anti-melee skillz" Wow thanks...I'll probably try it with my armor equipped this time too...
Sry about venting...Im not trying to sound like an ass...but I came here hoping for a tip and all I see are folks saying how easy it is...while others complain of how hard it is...and it cant be both. I will keep searching these threads until i turn something up though...

Well I got lucky: I was a WoH monk so I got accepted into an all aliance group with a hero or two. We ignored the shrines and just beat the crap outta shiro and the lich. Not saying it wasn't hard, but WoH = God when you have a team thats smart enough to have your tank tank.
If the shrines don't help much yeah impossible odds = impossible mission. But I've heard they do help a bunch and make it so a good, not just extremely badass, team can make it through.
And Guys don't say something that's freakishly hard is easy just cause you got it on your first try. That like saying Oh Abstract Algebra II Is so frickin easy" Maybe for you but not 99.9% of the world.

Your best bet is to go with hench/heroes then you can set it the way you like, as that is easier then getting a pug that works well.
I went with 2 heal 1 prot monk, necro with SS , fire ele , dervish, mes henchies/heroes. and i went tank and took spoil victor.
You need to note at wich point he usues his impossible odds and then get spoil victor and SS on him just before and he will drop soon enough.
If he takes down your tank or to many of the team with IO order your hench to run away and start over again once you all rez'd.
I didnt even bother with the shrines just made shiro come to the top of the stairs so he was easier to block in.

The group I was in lost to him first time, same situation you describe. We looked at the skill, worked out a counter and smacked him down the second time. I think we modified about three skills across the entire team of eight for him.
The whole mission is a ward against bad players. It's designed to be on a razor edge between being in control and out of control - all the patrols nearly overlap so a few mistakes and you have a very large aggro, the portals and then the final boss. I think it's good that way, you have to think about how to beat it and can't just rush through it.
