It is my understanding that they were removed because pygmie hippos are an endangered species. I think they've been replaced with crocodiles?
There are a number of changes to pets that have been done for real world considerations:
Cranes head plumage coloring changed to not be the same as a real world crane that is endangered or revered in certain cultures.
Pandas aren't charmable as they are revered in certain cultures and cute and cuddly and some people get upset seeing a dead panda.
I want a koala or 'roo pet

heh, only places I've been in Istan are Kamadan and sunspear hall.
There are also tho: elder crocs (dunno if these are effectively charmable though as they are always charmed by the time you can get in range), and regular crocs, lions, lionesses, Jahai rats, flamingoes and warthogs of course, hyenas, and probably more that Im not remembering. But I've not seen the pigmy hippo elsewhere yet...perhaps its a new endgame pet like phoenix tho.

Yes the Elder Crocs are charmeable but like the Elder wolves in Prophecies or Elder( or is it Dire) Tigers ..you have to beat the enemy to charm it. I could have but the char I was on when I saw them has a UW spider from over a year ago and I just dont want to give it up.lol But I do intend to get one on another char.

Wow whatever happened to the tigers then? They have white tigers in Factions. Since where I originate from has around 200-300 wild tigers remaining I am well offended and demand that they remove it from the game is it is very offensive to my culture. It is technically racist/nationalist whichever term you want to use by having rare endangered species not included in the game for obvious reasons and yet having endangered species of another country in the game. Tsk tsk.

White tigers arn't a breed.... they're a purposefully bred genitic mutation..... so there for cannot in and of themselves be on the endangered list.
If you do even a smidge of research on it, you'll find that many animal keepers/Zoologists and stuff are aginst the purposeful breeding of White tigers for a mirid of reasons. (( None really needed on a video game board))

Lets not even mention the fact of the "Gods." if they can toy with something like that, surely an endagered species can be entertained in this game.

The Bengal tiger is now strictly protected, and is the national animal of both Bangladesh and India. After the resounding success of the tiger conservation program in India known as Project Tiger, the population of wild tigers has increased dramatically. The tiger population of India has reached about 3,500, up from 1,200 in the 1970s. In the Sundarbans, a 2004 census found the presence of about 280 tigers on the Bangladesh side.

Results of a new four-year survey announced in 2004 indicated that China's wild giant panda population includes approximately 1600 animals, about 40% more than previous estimates. It is believed that the increase in the estimated population is due to more accurate and comprehensive survey methods rather than to an actual increase in the population.
- source http://www.animalinfo.org/species/carnivor/ailumela.htm Last time I checked, 280 was a smaller number than 1600. Don't bother mentioning the number of tigers found in India, I am not from there. I am highly offended having normal Bengal tigers charmed, sent to battle and killed. It is really horrific to see and since it is an endangered species in my birth country, I demand that ANET remove it immediately. |
