Here's a question: What is better- a Rune of Superior Soul Reaping or a Rune of Minor Soul Reaping? On one hand, Superior gives a better bonus. On the other hand, Superior steals away -75 health. Is the -75 health worth it? It depends on the build and the person, really. But neither is actually better... Superior doesn't mean better, it simply means more potent.
All runes are like that. Except for Vigor and Absorption. So the question is... why? The first answer... taking away 75 health doesn't make very much sense on runes made to improve your survivability. Well, that answer is good and dandy and leads to prices of 25k for 9 extra health.
But why is Health the only option? With the addition of Runes of Attunement, Runes are beginning to effect not just health and attributes, but energy as well. It would make sense if Runes of Superior Vigor and Absorption came with some sort of drawback, perhaps a small loss in energy (even a loss of 3 energy for superior would be more than sufficient).
Runes currently do not give players of different variations any advantage- I may have Superior Tactics, but maybe you will kill me while you have 74 health left thanks to your Rune of MINOR Tactics.
So right now, the only thing separating Minor Vigor and Superior Vigor is price, and that's foolishness. There is no reason it should cost 25k in a game based on NOT having to farm to get a good rune- especially since EVERY OTHER RUNE gives a disadvantage by accepting the full potency. By adding a negative effect to runes of vigor, the price would surely plummet to around 5 or 6k, making it more affordable yet not too cheap. Also, it would give a greater strategy in outfitting your armor, as now those minor runes aren't completely worthless- they may have a place on your character, just like every other minor rune in the game may.

/not signed. Superior Vigor is the only superior rune universal to all characters, and should continue to provide a conditionless benefit.
You will see less and less warriors utilizing superior absorption with the much better benefit of the condition reducing runes. Putting another negative on it just seals its fate.

All I'm going to say is, maybe ANet should just consider adjusting the rarity of the buggers.

Since when was making sense a bad thing?

Ah yes, sense is good, hm? My original post made plenty of sense. If superior runes have punishments, superior runes should have punishments. Now THAT makes sense.
