Poison Fire

Profession: R/any though, I prefer Mo for rebirth and purge conditions.
Name: Poison Fire
Type: PvE build it might work in PvP but I haven't tried it.
Category: Damage/Degen
Attributes:
Expertise: 12+1
Wilderness Survival: 3+1
Marksmanship:12+3+1
Skills Set:
Burning Arrow (elite)
Screaming Shot
Savage Shot
Splinter Shot
Apply Poison
Troll Unguent
Optional
Optional
Equipment:
A bow with either a poisonous bowstring or a barbed bowstring. I've been using Elswyth's Longbow.
Summary:
This build is designed around the 3 major food groups of conditional degen. Fire, bleeding, and poison. Before a fight activate Apply Poison then, open up with Burning Arrow. Opening with Burning Arrow should bring the enemy into earshot range and that is when you use Screaming Shot. Getting blocked is a perfect time for Splinter Shot.
Notes & Concerns:
Pros:
- Good damage dealing.
- Both Screaming Shot and Burning Arrow do damage on impact as well as degen.
Cons:
- Eats energy after awhile.
- Being dodged or evaded can give you a headache.
Credit goes to me and my guildmate Kraizk.

Equipment Note: Rotwing's Recurve Bow and Full Druids will help your energy problem. Since degen is the focus and not damage, the +5e from Rotwing is pretty justified.
Build Notes: Burning Arrow is terrifying, and my Ranger has fallen in love. You can try subbing in Choking Gas and get interrupts in as well (For oh say, Ghostly Hero?).

Grammar
I tried Burning Arrow, but in the end, I had to ask myself, "why are you doing single-taget burning when you could be doing multi-target burning?"
After tinking with Burning Arrow I've gone back to my Barrage+Mark of Rodgort+Conjure Flame build. The new AoE synergy between Barrage and Mark is just too good.
The only downer is the need to use a skill slot on Glyph of Lesser Energy in order to spam this effectively, which means you probably need to sacrifice an interrupt (I only have room for one interrupt skill now ).

The reason I posted this is because everyone and their brother uses Barrage. Barrage is a good skill don't get me wrong I just think its a wee bit overused especially, when there are other good skills.
Jeff Highwind I completely forgot about Rotwing. Thanks for mentioning it!

much more energy effective to use barb and poisen arrow. You will only need 9 expetise, but you will have to raise your ws. Makes troll urgent effective also.

If you want to spread conditions too, use epidemic

If he is already having energy problems, I doubt using a 15 energy spell (thus not affected by expertise) would be a very good option.

Epidemic is 5 energy, kthxbai.

For the "optional" slots try Whirling Defense and Distracting Shot.
I use a simular build, but i use Hunters shot in place of Screeming and Crossfire in place of Splinter.
But hey, thats just Me.
PS also when I have Jin with me I drop hunters and run her with Barbed arrows and Poison Arrow, then we just spread the Degen Love.

Stranger The Ranger
Yea, I love Burning Arrow, awesome skill. Here's the build I made(can be used for PvE, but also very effective in small scale PvP like RA):
Expertise: 14 (+1+2)
Marks: 14 (+3)
WS: All you've got left (+1)
Burning Arrow [E]
Screaming Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Pin Down/Favorable Winds
Troll Unguent
Whirling Defence
Res/Storm Chaser
Damage, Degen and Pressure in 1, priceless :>

Tested it in PvE and it's a godsend against monks. Chaining Burning and Screaming you get about 150 damage in 2 hits with -10 degen coupled in against a lvl24 monk monster. If you got the higher ground, you can be even more terrifying due to focused fire on the head. The best thing about Burning is that the burning lasts for 5 seconds, so you can KEEP Them on fire as well.
Energy is a problem, so equip yourself with Druids/Radiant armor with a Rotwing Recurve Bow and have a Zealous bow as backup for recovering. With Expertise at 12~13 you shouldn't be having problems but when you got tough targets it's best to have a backup.
For the optionals, I packed Throw Dirt and Whirling Defense simply because you don't have any defense listed. Stranger Ranger's idea for Pin Down would be good if the monk kites but with a Recurve and being in Earshot kiting is relatively tough. If Kiting is still a problem, pack Seeking Arrows and it's GG folks.
=======
On the note of posts though, I do not see any synergy between Mark of Rogdort and Barrage. Rogdort is guarenteed AoE while Barrage depends on adjacent targets. If you wanna spam damage, just bring an Echo.

Is it just me or is Burning Arrow the best Ranger single target damage elite?
my build for RA:
Apply Poison
Screaming Shot
Burning Arrow {E}
Distracting Shot
Purge Conditions (I hate Blind )
Whirling Defense
Troll Unguent
Resurection Signet
marks:14
expertise: 13
wilderness survival: 10

Nine Soul
I used something very similar to take down Varesh the first time. Think I went with Burning + Apply Poison + Screaming Shot for that wonderful nasty degen we all love.
That was way before, when there were three people in the mission outpost. Works like a charm on high priority single targets, not so useful as a solo vs. the world thingy. But if there's something that you need to take down and take down fast - w00t!

Tested this again by adding Serpent's Quickness. Helps deal with the abhorring recharge of Screaming Shot and makes you close the gap between Burning times alot easier.

I keep hearing good things about Burning Arrow. I'll definitely get my ranger over soon to pick this up.

[wiki]Burning Arrow[/wiki] is one of the best single target ranger elites IMO, I just remade a ranger a couple weeks ago (got survivor ) and got this capped and it hasn't left my skill bar once since I capped it. I have a build similar to most posted here so no use of posting it really. I have energy denial sometimes usually after 2-3 times of spamming [wiki]Burning Arrow[/wiki] and about 2 times of spamming [wiki]Screaming Shot[/wiki], but usually enemies are dead by that time. I might invest in a +5 energy bow.
BTW: I wish that fiery bowstrings would have an increase burning duration, that would be t3h pwn4g3!

I use it with Ignite Arrows which seems fantastic for bunched up groups. It has hardly left my skillbar also...with the exception of taking Broad Head Arrow a couple of times. I have Indomitable Survivor btw...

why bother with apply poison? Isn't max degen -10 and bleeding and burning gives you that. Use the saved energy for more bleed and burn.

Yeah it does give -10, but it's good to have both Screaming Shot and Apply Poison just in case you encounter people with health regenerations like Necros who use Life Siphon, or Monks who use Healing Breeze. Or other skills. Some monsters like bosses have permanent +2 or +3 health regen. So if you have -13 health degen, even if they use life siphon or health regen the -10 degen will still be kept.
