GuildWars taking too much ram memory
SkyHiRider
ive been suffering from game lags lately and i discovered its not due to internet connection but due to low ram free space. Ive got 1 GB of ram and it isnt enough for 1 hour of play. Sometimes i have to restart gw after 30 minutes. The tas manager in windows is showing me that gw is taking only 200 MB but im 100% sure that gw is taking at least 600 MB. Is this some kind of bug that needs to be repaired or the problem is on my pc?

How are you 100% sure that Guild Wars is using more RAM than it says it is?
Honor
find that hard to believe played for hours on comp that only had 512mb of ram, running xfire Mirc and AIm in the background with no really unusual lag and no mem probs
SkyHiRider
im sure because i installed freeramxp, It showed 750 free memory, when i started gw it fell to 100. After a few hours the game began lagging due to low ram, so i had to restart gw to terminate the process and free the ram of gw files. After that, i had 750 MB free again.

You do realise that using an application like FreeRam XP could be the cause of your problem don't you? When it's running it's constantly checking your RAM and when it drops to a set level it attempts to clear out the memory and ergo free up some space.
That isn't such a good thing to have running at the same time as a game that requires quite a bit of RAM.

Only time I've found where ram "free" memory programs worked is if you are running a newer OS on an underpowered computer.
It sounds like the memory manger or another program (not guildwars) is flaky and eating up all the system resources and the memory manger is acting more like a band-aid (if it's not causing the problem).
I've left a program running (that uses java and been known to use huge amounts of ram) for 3 days strait and ran guildwars off and on over that span of 3 days without having any issues with guildwars or needing to reboot. I also have 1gb of DDR memory.

I only have 768mb RAM + 256mb VRAM and I can run GW, Firefox, WLM and Winamp without problems, just get rid of the unnecessary background programs you have running.
awesome sauce
It does the same thing with me, actually, and you don't need "freeramxp" to check. Before I start the game task manager says I have about 700 mb free. After, it can dip to 150 mb of ram, even though the "processes" list reports only 200-350 mb being used. Its the same with all games, actually. Skyhirider, I would advise you to get rid of that program you are using. To find out how much ram you have available, press ctrl alt delete, click the performance tab, and check under available physical memory. It is in bytes, so divide that number by 1000 to get the amount of memory in mb.
Bane of Worlds
believe it or not but firefox doesn't waste ram when you visit several sites on the same tab or multiple tabs and it'll also kill your cpu resources

Id agree with previous posts, use the built in memory use monitor to chack whats being used. Have you done a virus /spyware scan? You should, as those can eat up resorces also. This is a pic of my memory use, running GW, a few Internet windows, and a few background programs. I have 1GB of ram, and about 670MB is being used.

I got rid of free ram a week ago. The program is useless, i agree with you all. I just wanted to try the stupid thing I used the / allocate switch to allocate half of my memory and gw works wonders now. Its just odd that without the switch it takes too much memory. And before i installed freeram, i checked in the taskmanager to see the usage of my ram. Was the first place where i found out why is it lagging so bad. The problem is solved but Its bugging me that i dont know why was it doing it in the first place.
