Get your Windows Setup Disk (Assuming you still have it )

Install the Windows Backup Utility.

Back up your whole GW folder; wherever that may be.

Delete to your hearts content

Or you can:
  • Copy the GW.dat file and/or you screenies and templates to another disk (with the ever increasing size of GW.dat, get an external hard drive)
  • Get a zip prog (Winzip, 7zip, whateverzip), copy said files to a new archive and write the archive to a DVD (or a CD if the compression is THAT good)

So this works for transferring to a new computer too? I am getting a new laptop (with gorgeous graphics specs), and the idea of reloading all the maps is kinda daunting.

What is the GW.dat file? Is that the actual icon file or is it the whole Guild Wars folder in Program Files?

I have also had to reboot and redownload a few times and it's a hassle redownloading all those lightning bolts =)

The GW.dat file is exactly that: a file with the name GW.dat. It's in your Guild Wars install folder (default is C:\Program Files\Guild Wars).
