Avatar of Balthazar
Mr Toraan
My guildies and I are having tons of trouble trying to cap AoB. So, what did all you who have the skill do to defeat the acolyte? Thanks a lot!
Captain Arne Is PRO
I just rushed him and killed using the usual systematic targeting.. Priests first, etc..
A good idea though, would be having some sort of e-denial or blindness on him, though.

Blkout
I had no trouble, I used my 3 heros and 4 henches. Just make sure to kill all the Kournans first, then the Acolyte last.
Mark Nevermiss
I did exactly the same as Blkout and had no trouble at all killing the acolyte, I hadcaptured the avatar of Melandru first and used it while capturing the avatar of Balthazar, but I suppose it wouldnt have been much harder without it.
Mr Toraan
Hmm we must have just been having a bad night last night :P
Thanks for all the help guys

The avatar of Balthazar is one hard hitting bastard. Easily hitting for 350+ AOE Damage, killing your henchmen with a single strike sometimes. We killed him when i took manual control of my prot monk hero and explicitly told him to keep Prot Spirit on me all the time.

I helped a guildie cap that skill the other day. The first time out we did not know what to expect and got our butts handed to us. We went back to town and regrouped and got him with no problems. Here are some of the things we did:
1) Add a prot Hero with Protective Spirit, Shield of Absorption, and Blessed Aura
2) Add a Blood Spike Necro Hero using Spoil Victor for the elite and Rend Enchantments
3) Add a interrupt ele hero (as we did not have a mesmer hero)
Those were the main changes and we were able to steam roll the boss and everyone around him. We were even able to take the boss down before the rest of the mob with this. Spoil Victor was doing some major damage to the boss as he could not keep his enchantments on himself so he recast them.
You could also do something like have a necro and mesmer to keep removing his enchantments and then put something like backfire on him to punish him for recasting them. Soul Barbs would also go nicely against him as it will deal damage everytime he gets hexed or enchanted. Plus throw in Desecrate and Defile Enchantments for some heavy damage.

I took Avatar of Grenth with me, stripped his enchantments quite nicely.
eiri yuki
i soloed it, i waited till he transformed, and walked back, he ended up chasing me and all the other left, i kept ranning back and forth untill his avatar form was gone, after that it was easy to kill him
Guardian of the Light
I just got Sousuke to Blind him and killed everyone around him and then him.
Xenoslave42
I used Avatar of Lyssa while having my necro hero strip his enchantments. Everytime he tried to recast an enchantment or use an attack skill, AoL's special power went off hitting him for big damage.
Killian Godsblade
Capped it this morning with no problems. Took both hero monks as prot monks. Took both healing henchmen a motivation and fire hencie. As well as Sousuke as my last hero. Pulled each group of 5 killed them and then ran in and killed AoB. I think I took AoD with me when I capped it. But I honestly don't think it should matter much. Just concentrate on one group at a time.
I posted henchies and heros away from the castle and pulled a group at a time with my bow to seperate them. Worked easy enough.

Amok Affinity
cleaned out the patrols and after a few tries drew him out from his small group of friends... fairly nasty hitter
Sidra
I went out w/ Jin as a barrage/interrupt. It helped a bit... my nooby companion brought some screwed-up melonni. Eew. We all had 60 DP when we did it, but we finally managed to completely strip him by interrupts and outdmg him. I actually think we glitched him- he just stood there for 15 seconds taking hits after killing Mhenlo. It was very odd.
Chris616263
Jin + shortbow + 4 interrupt skills = acolyte who failed at using AoB.

the power doesnt even come from AoB, that just makes it annyoing to fight him. the pain in the ass is from chilling victory. did anet mess their math up severely? i cant figure out how a level 28 can have enough points specced into scythe mastery for that much damage.

Bosses do 2x damage.
chicks boy
omg r u frikin kidding!? Balthzar is the most easist to kill! Lyssa is the hardest one! ALl u do is pull and pull, kill preist and kourman guards etc and back up and have a hero ranger omg omg omg its soooo easy!
Darksun
Yeah, it was pretty easy for me. just pulling with Koss. made sure to take out Priest & Seer first, then went back to pound on AoB. Capped and Capped!
slimreb
See for me Balthazar is much harder to take out than Lyssa. I mopped the floor with Lyssa when I went to cap from her.
Though I have capped/helped cap Balthazar 4 times and the build I posted worked like a charm everytime I have done it.

Mr Toraan
We went out again last night and killed him very easily. Thank you all for the help =)

I caped it myself last night with full group of henchmen and the ranger hero. Ranger hero with poison arrow. Kill all roaming monsters in the area 1st. Go for the side entrance. Set flags far away from fortress. Run to agro his group and flee to your group. They will follow, attack the non boss creatures first. Kill the Priests, Scribes, Paragons, and then melee and rangers. After all of them are dead go for Acolyte. I did die after killing all the minor guys, but had no problem defeating him when I returned with a -15% penalty. I also had the Merlandu Avatar going which helps a bit. Note: Dervish primary Merlandu Avatar requires 25 energy so you can not activate it with a DP penalty. I am looking for an off hand to equip so I can activate the spell. A nice -1 regeneration + 12 energy should do the trick.
NinjaKai
I had my monk hero spamming aegis and ward spells.
Menzoberranzan
Never had any trouble capping AoB, just used a standard hero/hench full team and went exploring.
Batou of Nine
Kill as many surrounding Kournans as you can first.
The easiest henchy/hero setup vs him = Earth Henchy + Earth/Wards Hero = GG.
Cheers!

I used the following:
-- Tahlkora as a healer with an elite healing spell;
-- Dunkoro as a protector with an elite spell;
-- Koss as a W/Mo with self healing and protection;
-- Devona;
-- Kihm the healer henchie;
-- the paragon "motivational" henchie and
-- the illusion henchie for interrupt.
I didn't bother with the archers on the sides, I just went for the priest first, then the spotter. We got wiped soon after that, but I had activated the res shrine to the south-east. With the spotter down, we could get in nice and close.
I had Tahlkora and Dunkoro stand outside against the wall to heal and protect me thru it while taking minimal dmg themselves. I had Koss approach from the right hand side as a distraction to the guards, then the rest of my troupe came in from the left. We took out all the guards but the Acolytes AoE got us all... We res'd again and I used the same tactic, but with only the Acolyte left, it was a quick fight.

i had some issues with this one.
what i did eventually was i parked my heroes and hencies away from the castle where he is, and then micromanaged sousuke (ele hero) and used him to take out the few groups of kourman on the outer sides through the wall with meteor shower, rodgarts invo, immolate, etc... if you try this, make sure you set sousuke to, not attack and not guard, the last option, do nothing/defend or whatever its called. if you dont, he may get crazy and try and run in and aggro everything himself hehe
then i just got lucky and went in and took out the other kourman and then the acolyte last.

I henched all of the avatars. the only cap i had actual trouble with was onslaught.
Agentman
I capped all 5, AoB was the hardest, then lyssa, the rest were easy. I had 60 dp for balt and lyssa. Did not want to go in and have to re-kill everything, so kept trying till i got em. Persistence pays off.

Trylo
remember you can always tell ur henchies to wait behind you and pull the rangers out, thats what i did...
Queto
I capped all Avatars thanks to Zhed Shadowhoof as an air ele with blinding flash and the ability to lock targets ^^
ph0bolus
this works for any avatar except for melandru "BLIND" they cant hit anything with blind on em so you just stand there and hack them to pieces while they swing aimlessly at you...
Queto
Aah yes, forgot that. But it's basicly all about pulling, don't take on groups that you can't handle
Devona also helps btw, she does KD once in a while so that could be usefull... Or other warrior counter like mesmer and necro hexes could kill the Acolytes quite fast.

Indeed. I think most post agree that if you don't have an air spiker or interrupter, that you pull the groups and kill them off one by one...
I have to admit it was pretty difficult for me to cap too, even more difficult since I had no death wish whatsoever ( == halfway second survivor title
). My group consisted of:
Heroes: 1x Mo (healer) - 1x E (Nuker) - 1x W (Err... no specific function, just bashing!! ^.^ )
Henchies: 2x Mo - 1x E (Earth) - 1x P (Motivation)
Aggroing the group with the power of manual Sousuke control worked pretty well. Just send the rest of your heroes to the back. Once they'll come after Sousuke and he is safe, cancel hero orders and attack one person that is NOT the avatar. After the kill, run away, repeat over. Lengthy approach (took me about 15-20 minutes), but it was worthwile and did not got killed
Good luck with capping it!
Although, some suggestions pointed here might be interesting too (PS, and such!).

I capped AoB at level 15 with the basic setup heroes/henchs as sson as i arrived at the command post. If I remember correctly I was at -30% DP when i killed him.
Cambeul
Balth the Hardest, Dwayna the Longest, damn heal tank

Anyone try pacifism (monk skill)? Just have hero monks cast it alternating the recharge and when the aura wears off, kill him.
