Basic Ranger build:

1.) Preperation
2.) Attack Skill
3.) Interrupt
4.) Interrupt
5.) Evasion Stance
6.) Self Heal
7.) Utility Slot
8.) Rez sig / Hard Rez

Bout as specific as you can get without knowing much about you. The sticky is hard to sort through, as not everything in it is worthwhile and some of it has been nerfed, and wiki has good builds and bad builds, but if you were a bit more specific, maybe we could help you come up with something then.

Yea, I wouldn't really reccomend the sticky for the same reasons as said by Snipious, but I would ask what campaign(s) you have and what elite skills you have to work with as well since it doesn't mean much to you if we propose a build for you that includes skills you don't have/can't get.

Good ole poison arrow build from before NF:

Dual Shot (or the new dual skill from NF that shoots 2 arrows if you not enchanted or hexed - can't remember the name)
Poison Arrow
Savage Shot
Kindle Arrow
Whirling Defense
Troll Unguent
<free slot>
Rez

For the stats it depends on where you play. You need 9 expertise, but for Marksmanship and WS, it depends on how much defense you need. If you go with 16 WS, you will slightly less damage than with 16 marksmanship but have a better troll unguent (and if the free slot is a WS skill it will make it more effective as well). So it's up to you.

Now there are several viariants with NF: you can combine Poison Arrow with barbed Arrows for example instead of Kindle for a pure degen build, or take burning Arrow and Apply Poison.

PS: grats on the mod appointement, Snipious.

Since enemies are a bit more dynamic than before and move around more, an Apply Poison + Hunter's Shot build still works. I used to exploit the enemy flee AI to use Escape {E} then drop a trap to cause enemies to flee when they got too close to allied squishies, then use Hunter's Shot to cause bleeding on them as they ran. The full build was something like this:

Hunter's Shot
Savage Shot (or dist. shot, depending on your preference)
Apply Poison
Barbed or Flame Trap
Escape {E}
Open Slot (Throw Dirt or a running skill work well here for versatility)
Troll (also rather optional since Troll is not always very critical when you have monks to heal you)
Rez of choice

Since you mentioned savage shot vs. distracting shot, I have a question.

I have always used distracting shot but see alot of people using savage. Can someone please tell me what the advantage of savage over distracting?

Thank you.

^ Savage deals full damage, while distracting shot deals much less. Distracting shot is better for catching spamable skills that make life miserable for your team, but savage is better in most cases as it deals normal damage against a skill and deals a very nice +damage against a spell. I use savage cause I like to follow attack skills with a quick 1/2 cast attack to maximize the damage I put out.

Generally I see savage shot as being more useful in PvE since enemies tend not to live long enough for skill disabling to make much of a difference and when confronted with multiple enemies at once, you can also pull off more interupts since the recharge is less. I tend to lean towards Distracting Shot in PvP where it can really turn the tides of battle when you disable a key skill of an enemy.

(btw, grats to Snipious on getting the fancy black letters on your name)

Savage Shot also has a lower recharge time, so if you only have 1 slot left, it'd probably be more helpful to put it there over Distracting.. well it depends whether you need the shutdown or not. Meh.
