Did ArenaNet Forget About Pets?

I just got Acolyte Jin with my ranger and decided to get a pet for her. The problem is, I can't name her pet. Is there a new emote to name your hero's pets, or did ArenaNet forget about this?
Also, weren't we supposed to have the ability to control where our pets go (in a similar way to heros) as soon as Nightfall came out?
And what happened to being able to see the amount of XP our pets have? And, even though its not really about pets, what about being able to see the amount of XP that our heros have?
And then there is the not being able to get rid of our heros pet's and get a new pet for that hero.
I know these are all small things, but a lot of small things can add up quickly. ArenaNet, please fix/add these things.

I too feel pets have been left out.
I find pets to be an amazing damage dealer. In RA I used a pet/trapper and was amazed that I could set traps AND attack with the pet, but now, pets are hard to control, were neglected of 'good' attack skills with NF.
I would like to see a pet buff.
And the ability to remove/name my hero's pet.
That Hippo will be mine!

They've added A LOT to guild wars with nightfall, but pets are one thing that still feels exactly the same as it did when prophecies first came out. The absense of any tweaks to the pet system is probably the most disappointing aspect of nightfall for me. There are many new features that feel "shiny and new" but they just make the archaic pet system stand out more...they (pets) feel boring.

pets have not been left out by anet, pets have been left out by players who think pets are crap and therefore the general public has little knowledge of them.
My pet can deal 300+ damage in under 2 seconds, so clearly they aren't ineffective.

Aw man. I didn't know you couldn't remove a pet from your hero to get a new one. My guildmate and I discovered the inability to name them, however. I guess my hero is stuck with a flamingo.
I also noticed that pets ignore the map "everyone" waypoint flag and run with you instead of staying put.

What I am saying is, they need some more 'new stuff'. More skills, faster targeting so they don't stay on one target the entire match if I couldn't tell from the beginning of the fight what monk was a smiter or healer.

And if what mqstout said is true, then that's another thing that should be fixed. Even if pets never get their owns controls, they still should stay where you put the "everyone" stay here flag. By everyone, it should mean all NPC's on your party window, whether they are pets, quest NPC's (ones that are there for certain quests), heros, henchies, or any other NPC's.

Seems like this is something thats just been forgotten about, so lets hope its in a future update. All that would be needed is to modify pet tamers so they ask who's pet you want rid of, and to insert a modified command to name your pets in outposts. Can't be THAT hard to implement.

Pets aren't humans. They are animals that love you, but are a bit stupid. Therefore, assuming the same level of control of them as say a hero, or even a henchie, is streching reality to a certain extent. If you got that level of control, next the MMs would be asking for detailed minion controls.
Consider that you're getting a jr party member that doesn't count against the party count, that can attack fairly independently, while you keep plucking away with your bow. Yes, you're "paying" for the pet with one or more skill spots, as well as a pile of attr pts, but the pet is not completely replacing you, so there needs to be *some* difference between your pet and Stefan.

When have Arenanet not forgotten about pets. Hell, they made pets get DP and forgot to put that savage little update in the notes.

But as youve said, we cant untame Hero Pets at the minute, so it looks like im stuck.
But whats the alternative? A lion or Lioness?
Im only 70% through the game mind, so maybe there are more ive not found!

My main char Ele has a Pheonix from cantha and my main ranger has a black moa from cantha.
So im well aware of other continental creatures.
