monstersparkler
I played through the entire nightfall game with my warrior and had one gold drop for myself (not including one from a chest) and ive seen two drop (including mine)

Hand your head in shame!
As for myself I have been having better luck than usual...the most purples I have had on a row from chests is about 12, and I also have had more golds drop from mobs than I have ever had over a 2 week period.

Im my experience of NF now having got 100% Cartographer, beaten Abaddon I have to say I would actually agree with the OP on DROPS. they have been very weak and infrequent. CHESTS however I have done very well with and have 5 max dmg rare scythes with some groovy mods BUT they stand out due to the fact that other kit has been very infrequent from them, most notably Spears (Ive had ONE but it was a dynamite one), altho there HAS been a number of other rares from chests...so i dont think they are broken.
It does smack of a buggered system. Something IS wrong and and its not working as it should in terms of DROPS only tho
Im a Tyrian Necro that has opened precisely 167 high end chests (I was on 2500 at NF start now on 2667)
As for keys ... ive had about 6 drop in the total time since playing NF.
Insignias have been plentiful as have runes.
Oh yeah and had 3 greens, First was Ele wand..Suli's Scythe and a monk off hander

So far I explored 83,0% of the Map with my Prophecies Ele.
Apart from a rune of superior hammer mastery and superior axe mastery rune, the only gold drop were one scythe and one staff. I found no Keys, therefore opened no chests. Currently I'm playing with heroes and genchies alone, except when I'm helping other alliance members on missions I already accomplished.
I grab everything and have noticed an insame ammount of dagger drops. blue rune drops and armor upgrades are ok so far, overall money output is relatively low.
Two greens dropped so far, one looking nice on my hero hench even though the skin is lame (standard monk fokus), the otehr being a ritualist wand I have no use for.
overall the droprate seems to be "cautios" especially concerning the monetary needs of heroes. sure you can go for collector items, but they have to be acquired as well (Time=Money). I'm glad having a financial reserve from previous chapters and would not want to be new to the game. Inscription pricing seems to indicate a healthy droprate though.
but the fist person able to solo Heckets outside the Tihark Orchard is going to be one rich sob. Good thing you can't max out your sunspear title by killing these suckers over and over.
Dye Drops were fairly regular before the weekend, suddenly stopped during the weekend and haven't recovered since. Well, apart from being nothing more than a free draw in the "dye lottery" they mean nothing to me as I simply buy them when I feel like it.

On the first 3-4 days of NF... I have high green weapon drop rate. (I already have total 6 greens) *2 green spear, 1 mesmer staff, 1 water staff, 2 green bows* Some of them drop at the very first time when I fight the boss with henches and heros.
But after the first NF update... my green drop rate was horrible... some of the greens I farm for few days or a week until now. Still no drop! *I try to farm with only 2 or 3 heros... most of the time, dunno why Anet decrease the drop rate so much*
And yes its hard to get max stats weapon.... I generally save collector items for collector weapons. And salvage the mod from none-max weapon add it for my collector weapon.

My wife is really aggrevating me. Well, I guess it would be her character that's aggrevating me. OK, well, I guess it would be the drop system favoring my wife's character... well you get the point.
Since NF release, she's gotten 2 White dyes, 2 Black dyes, 5 Radiant Insignias, 3 Major Vigors, and tons of golds. Every time we do a quest, she gets at least 1 gold, be it from a chest or a drop, and in many cases she'll get 4-5 golds.
Me? I get 1 gold every 6-7 chests, and none from drops. I've gotten 1 dye since NF release, and it was a green - whoopTEdoo. I have gotten a fair share of some nice runes and insignias, most of which I use on myself or my heroes. Not a lot of drops, but I do tend to get some nice purples, decent skins. So I'm moderately happy.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I have gotten one green weapon. Unfortunately it was an Istani starter-island piece of crap.

Yes, we think the gold rate has dropped a lot. We have done a lot of Vabbi and gotten only 2 gold drops for both of us. We both have topped out of sunbringer points and are level 3 in lightbringer. One is a Tyria monk and one is a Canthia Monk. We seem to be having a farmed out problem too in Tyria and areas don't seem to be resetting. We don't do 55 Monks but do solo in Tyria and good places have dried up completely. I have 3 accounts and it seems to be effecting all 3 of mine and both of my brothers. We have gotten golds from chests in Vabbi areas sometimes 2 or 3 an area but we paid for these with keys. I have gotten only 2 Vabbi Keys. And does everything have to be daggers. I got enough daggers to start my own army. We both salvaged one geode and got a gem and I did get a ruby from measure for measure on ruby daggers. Maybe letting us know just what you consider a gold drop is would help. I know I always figure if I got a charcoal it was a gold drop and think the same of geodes, and maybe dyes too.
I also think you have been price fixing everything in the game. The rune prices just don't make sence. If Superior Absorbtion is sold out how come the price dosen't go up. And I also think you are adding stuff to stock to control prices. We bought 9 Superior Vigors the other night and the price did not go up a bit. Then it fell the next day even lower. I don't really have a problem with this but would like to know when it will stop and exactaly what you are doing so I can adjust my buying and selling accordingly.

For the record...I got maybe 6 gold drops over the last 2 days in Vabbi. Much higher rate than previous. Offhands, daggers mostly. 1 sword. I got one very nice gold scythe in a Kourna chest (^15% -10, 19% enchant, ebon) early on...but yes, the drops have been weak.

Ya the drops are fugged up IMO. I have solo'd torments, titans, and my old standard menzies army in the realms of torment........The drops are pretty horrendous. Most of the items aren't even max damage or defense, and these are from end game lvl 24+ enemies, wtf is up with that. 13-18 damage swords, 14 def shields cmon now. On the started island or lvl 16-20 mobs I can understand, but end game abaddon's army. What kind of evil leader equips his special forces with slingshots and booger flickers. I was expecting atomic bombs on sticks or depleted uranium arrowheads
I'm hoping the drop table is screwed up and is going to be fixed.....The way ANET has been going lately it may be on purpose.
All the rares that I have found were mostly from questing, and chests. Some have been really good with perfect inscriptions that are useful, but the skins havent impressed me really so far and most of the times these items werent even max damage or defense either.
I play PVE for the rare drops personally. I could care less about greens I despise them. Most people also play PVE for the items, and screwing with item drops isn't going to be good for business. The farming nerf was kind of overkill, but adaptable, however if they get all doped up and nerf farming again, that will probably be it for me and GLS.
Who wants to buy a 17.5 mill exp necro with all skills minus my last few elite caps? j/k
Nightfall is a great game I love it. I'm personally not digging all of the above^

NF drop rate is weird... it was very nice in the first 3 days. The game release on Oct27th.... the first 3 days I have wonderful drop including green weapons. But ever since the first NF game update, the drop rate is poor. I agree with the non-max weapon drop issue. And I do got a lot of purple hammers and daggers... *which I agree to some people saying we can't even make Assassin in NF*
Even in Istani land... I solo enemies just to get a collector item for a bag pack... those lv2 or lv1 enemy doesn't really drop what I'm looking for.... *for just 2 legs and it took me an hour*
Oh well, hopefully Anet will face the problem and do something about it soon.
Even though it's only a game, but players do spend efforts and amount of time on it, a more regular drop rate will be the best reward for gw players.

Me? Again with the bad luck. I've salvaged 4-5 jeweled and ruby daggers - nothin' but dust/steel/iron. I don't get it. She's getting all the luck, and I'm getting the leftovers, lol. (Thank Dwayna we share!)

I am most of the way through Vabbi and have yet to see a gold or green drop. I've seen a few (2-5) purples.
I am: Tyrian Ele fire nuker
I travel with:
Olias (MM)
Sousuke (Fire nuker)
Drunkoro (healing)
Healing Hench
Holy Hench
Motivation Hench
Fighter Hench.
I've recently decided to try playing with only the heroes and no henchies. We'll see if things improve any. It will be harder but if I can get through the first fight or 2 so Olias can build his army of body blockers we should be ok...

Resurrecting old Threads FTW! (Seems fitting with the new "Elite" zones)
FFS SAKES PEOPLE!
This isn't about Minions stealing drops, or heros taking additional drops.
Its mainly about drop QUALITY in NIGHTALL! Not getting something as simple as a max stat item of ANYTHING in the Realm of Torment is a small clue.
Latest trend in the CRAP Nightfall drops quality. NON max items in the new elite, hardest area of all of Elona, Domain of Anguish. LMAO! Spend nearly 5 hours today trying to get past the first few groups in each zone, only to walk away with 66 gold and a non max blue hammer, and a non max white scythe. Guild group this whole time, no one else got max stat anything, nor did anyone on my friend list. GG, harder zones without the incentive. PvE is becoming worse and worse...
Just for reference::

EDIT: AND also people, STOP posting your info about character, and campaign, etc. Gaile was talking about listing that info in a SUPPORT TICKET to Anet!! Yeesh.

Now not being able to get past the first few feet of a zone is fustrating enough. But after nearly 5 hours, i have 66 gold and a NON max blue hammer and a NON max white spear. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE ELITE ZONE! Your telling me EVEN at the HIGHEST, most ELITE part of the game i cant get max statistic drops?! NF drop system (quality) in general is the biggest joke ever. I had a WHOLE thread dedicated to this fact. Even in the Realm of Torment, the majority of the time, one does NOT got max stat items. My thread EVEN got a reply from Gaile saying "if it is truely a problem, send a report to support." And Support's response? "Post your concerns in a forum for feedback and so Reps can catch wind of any problems." IN other words the big "deny and point to someone else" manuever. The big never ending circle. Lame Lame Lame Lame... I could care less that we can't get past the first couple of mobs in EVERY DoA zone, but i DO care when we make some serious and determined attempts, only to walk away with a 11-28 dmg hammer? Or a 6-21 dmg spear? If i can't even get the simplest of max statistic WHITE items in the HARDEST area of the whole game, what's to keep my interest? There is only the incentive to getting the Armbraces of Truth for the weapons, but that feet in itself is INCREDIBLY hard at the moment. Anyone else notice drop quality in all of NF... and more specifically the crap quality of drops in the HARDEST part of the game, Domain of Anguish? In the VERY LEAST we should be getting white items with MAX dmg or MAX statistics. This fact is ridiculous and leaves the most ridiculous incentive value ever. If Anet is going to deny a drop-quality problem AGAIN, then i think i just about am done with RoA and perhaps all of NF.... Cheers. EDIT: OH! And no, NO ONE else in the guild group had gotten any max statistic drop, at all. I checked my whole friend list too, and not a single friend that has triend the DoA has gotten any max stat drops EITHER... |
cheers... ish.

5 req 9 Jeweled Daggers (gold)
3 req 9 Ruby Daggers (gold)
4 req 9 Bronze Daggers (gold)
and way too many other daggers req 10 and above.
I've been salvaging the daggers lately, in hopes of getting gems. I mean, i've made so many useless / pointless daggers for my assassin it's not even funny. I've replaced all of my greens with golds of the same stats, just because i've found THAT many freaking daggers.
Also, I ran some Ancient Elona chests, found probably 7 or 8 Rit wands. SPAWNING POWER, not even a useful Attribute for any build that I run. I mean, wtf. The best you can hope for there is like, +5e ^ 50 of quickening.

just one example, my tyrian necromancer at any Domain in the Realm of Torment
ive cleared out these maps while doing quests, skillcapping or just out of having nothing better to do and the only max damage drops ive ever gotten was 1 green and 1 gold. roughly 80% of which is white, the rest blue with the rare purple. chests are ALL purple and i dont buy keys anymore.
compare that to the drops in cantha and tyria prior to the 27oct06 update and all i can think of is an anti-farm nerf.
lolz, why do i even bother posting ... trust me anet will say its how we designed it, get used to it and adapt.

I get tons of gold coins but so far i have 1 gold hammer a ton of non max purple and white and 1 set of green daggers Achors , dye drops are pretty constant tho very rarely white and black i havent seen for over a year but on the whole i think im doing ok , finally got enough cash and materials for my primevil Armour ,so the drop system could mabey include so max gold weapons in the wurm areas , and what is it with purple chests 25 keys 1 gold chest
Saraphim
Apart from a couple of lucky gold max drops (and I mean a couple) the general drop standard (not quantity, just quality) has been hilariously bad for me now I've been playing for a couple of weeks.
One example - a level 24 monster that drops a fire wand, damage 6-9 !

There is definitely something wrong with the drops plain and simple i've only seen one gold drop for me and i've got two characters
completely through the game over the last few weeks i've opened a few chests and had gold loot but nothing so special
The general green /gold percentage for us all seems to be worse in nightfall for some reason but not only that
it's the drop rate of all the regular stuff that seems to be lacking too including gold coin drops /Sadness.......

Green drops are horrible in Nightfall, even with overfarming taken into account.

Unfortunately for me drop rates from chests in all 3 campaign have been 99.9% worthless. Purple = crap and most gold items if you are lucky enough to get them are crap. Even if you get amax damage gold, most of the time the mods make the item worthless anyway. Im done with chests. For what you get, keys are not worth buying at all. I have a character for every profession and the monster drop rate in nightfall is pathetic. I very rarely got good drops in Factions or Prophicies either but Nightfall max damage or gold weapons just are not being found. I agree if you fight a level 20+ monster and it drops a less than max damage item something is not right.
TideSwayer
I don't know if there's any truth to this, but it seems to me that offhands in general don't drop all that frequently in Elona. I'm trying to get some offhands for my heroes, but all I ever seem to get in drops are armors and weapons.
In general, the collectors suck in Elona too. Most of them offer ridiculously-modded caster weapons such as 15% while enchanted staves, when all I really want are 20/20 stuff for, yes, my heroes. Don't throw away Factions just yet. If Chapter 2 did anything right, it's how organized the collectors were.

Ive been through all of NF with my dervish and I am halfway through with my monk.
Dervish - Total gold drops through NF campaign - 3 (2 req13 Sword & Hammer & 1 armor, sup expertise)
Monk - Total gold drops through NF campaign so far - 1 (req 12 scythe, crap mods)
Does this seem right to anyone? Anet please look into this.

Heros defintely suck up items.
A few times I have seen a colored item drop , only to vanish very quickly.
No henchies just heros with me. Was not just in Elona either seen the same thing happen in Tyria.
(heros koss,dunkaro, melonni)
Heros shouldnt take as much as henchies IMO, you give them weapons, and what ever runes etc you might hapen to get.
I dont know if the drop rates bewteen the campains are actually different, But i seem to get more colored stuff , from tyria or factions. I dont do chests unless a key drops. And those have not been anything to rejoice over.
Runes seem to be harder to get in NF Imo.

Haha, I thought the same, after all you are the one that kits the hero out. I was pretty lucky once in NF, just after I commented to my guildies that I never get any green drops, I got two greens from a boss one right after the other (don't worry my luck soon turned back to normal...meaning none) another good drop was an aurelated gold shield, with crappy stats...thank god you can now mod them

And those have not been anything to rejoice over. Runes seem to be harder to get in NF Imo. |
When people run their expectations so high and hype themselves up about how awesome it will be that there are new weapons that they want, and the monsters they fight won't drop them. You honestly cannot expect a Superior Vigor and 15^50 Elemental Sword to drop for you every mob you fight.

I guess the "Elitists" had their complaints heard and Anet made rares and good items harder to obtain to compensate for the inscription system.
Of course, the bad drop rate can all just be skewed perception and bad luck but I'm getting the same bad luck in drops.

I had only Gold ones in Vabbi.
I had only perfect bases in de Desolation.
In the tormet, so far I found 2 keys and tons of white ones.
Ah, and foun some green ones... all in Istan, all while helping other ally. Never had a good drop going solo, hench or pugs, only with Guild member fellows.

This is as good a place as any to post my opinion on the matter:
Firstly, a few things we can all agree upon:
- Players like having max items for themselves
- Players don't like bots
- ANet doesn't like bots
- Bots sell money to people who can't get enough money/drops for themselves to be happy
- Economics is based on supply and demand
- Supply goes up, demand goes down
- Supply goes down, demand goes up
Some things that can be interpreted in different ways
- Green items were billed as "poor man's perfect items" (in not so many words)
- Over and over and over, we have heard that GW is not about farm grind
- Anti farm code designed for bots is getting in the way of players playing normally through the campaign
- People with 500 ectos in storage should not have any more say over the economy than someone who just picked up the game (meaning that if good items plummet in price, their complaints should not restrict new players to being forced into farming)
What I find so amazing is that bots are only in the game because there is not enough supply of gold or items or whatever else players (especially those with little time for farming) want.
Knowing the rules of supply and demand, and knowing ANet wants to get rid of bots, why in the world would they limit drops? This seems to be a surefire way to encourage players to use gold services.
Some small changes could get rid of bots, reduce any need at all for farming, and generally keep most players happy.
As I propose them:
- Increase cap on gold dropped from enemies
- Merchant sell values for items without a fixed cost (i.e. not keys or collector items) should be doubled across the board (perhaps more bonuses for purple and gold items)
- White items (especially at the end of the game) should have boosted stats... by the time I get to the Realm of Torment, every white item should be max, req 7-9
- Blue drops as they are now are random mods with the lowest stats... fine
- Change purple drops to be random mods, completely random stats (no range restrictions)
- Change gold drops to be random mods, all max stats (maybe not the mods you want on that particular item, but since it's max, it could be useful somewhere for you)
- Chests with keys costing 1500 are instantly gold drops (following the rules above)
- Each boss should be guaranteed to drop his green item (flood the market, crash the prices, alternative to this is to introduce an in-game trader since the stats never vary)
(I feel very strongly about this last point... Imagine going off to cap a skill and once you kill the boss, only one party member could cap his elite skill. And even if you solo-kill the boss, you only have a 10% or lower chance of actually seeing the skill show up on the list. Frustrating? You bet.)
The reasoning is simple: flood the market... Get it to the point that if anyone wants a green item it's a single run with some guild mates. Make it so that there isn't any room left in the economy for bots and their gold. Keep your uber rare items (Crystalline, ectos, etc) for the people that still feel a need to farm. But seriously, when items are still costing more than a single character can hold in their inventory, there is an issue.
Heroes should have been made account-wide, but that's an entirely different topic and it seems to late to rectify now.
Don't get me wrong, the inscription system is GREAT and there have been many steps in the right direction, but for every step forward it seems like there is a step back... Example: Why can't my Tyrian and Canthan armors have inscriptions applied to them? It can't be that hard to check if a piece of armor or a weapon (referring to pre-inscription weapon drops) has an inherent mod that would fit under the new inscription system and allow it to be over-written.
The most frustrating part of all of this is that Guild Wars keeps seeming to take a step in the right direction (in which case I cheer) just to turn around a week later and take another aspect in the wrong direction (maybe ANet is afraid that one day they will arrive at perfection).
Yes people complain quite often about things they see in the game as a problem, but nobody would be here complaining and continuing to play if we didn't love the game. We aren't here to say ANet is just doing a bad job, but we've been spoiled. Guild Wars seems to be constantly on the brink of perfection and never willing to take the last step. Perhaps the complaints that are so readily given are more of an expression of regret that the game can't take that last step.
I just wish for one day I could sit down and talk to the people who actually work on the game. They don't even have to take any of my ideas at all, just being able to see their reasoning would be awesome. Gaile, if there is any way possible, (I know there really isn't since it would set a precedence you can't afford to establish) could a dev send me a PM here? Just one afternoon on AIM/MSN or Ventrillo or however they would like to talk.
I wish I could enroll in the Make a Wish Foundation just to have that granted.

Throttle
I've played for a bit over a week, one character to level 20 and one to 17. I found my first green today, a fairly useless staff in one of the earlier areas. I've found less than 10 golds, and basically nothing of value. Usually plenty of white and crappy blues, no max damage items, one 16 armor gold lotus shield (req 12 or 13 str...) and some moderately valuable mods like a +5 energy inscription, a 15^50 and a +30hp hammer grip. I'm hoping things will get better in the end-game which I haven't reached yet.
Pompeyfan
I've found the drop rates in NF extremell;y poor to - Went through NF with my ranger and also did 90% of side quests to so far, and have arrived at kodash with my warrior and so far I've had 2 green drops, 1 decent gold drop and 1 key otherwise they've been piss poor, and chests haven't been much better with a gold on average every 10th chest, although still to get a decent one with max stats or mods on it - I don't farm, so it shouldn't be anti-farming code, I just play normally in either full parties or with heroes/henchies.
Throttle
Then again, I can see the reasoning behind a lowered drop rate in Nightfall compared to the previous chapters. I'm a new player so I can't compare, but from what I've heard, in the previous games you had to be lucky enough to find an item with the desired mods already on it. In Nightfall you can find a max damage weapon and then find various other items with the desired mods, and assemble the weapon you want. Maybe you're finding less purple/gold items in NF than the previous chapters but you have a lot more freedom in customizing them and shaping the items you want instead of praying that you actually get a max damage weapon with three perfect mods on it. Now you just have to find 3-4 items where one thing is right on each and you have what you want. I wonder if it's not actually easier to get what you're looking for in NF?

That is the reason why Anet is taking the one step forward one step back approach. It's the reason why the inscription system is sort of half-assed at this point and why it doesnt apply to previous chapter items. It's so that they dont alienate and anger these power traders who feel their items that they've hoarded will be rendered useless. Notice how many of them scream their heads off at the new system?
But I have faith that eventually the inscription system will apply to all items. And that items will drop more frequently once the uproar over "killing the value of things" dies down.

Just drops, agreed. They are VERY crapola compared to the other two chapters!
Especially, oddly, in the higher areas. The higher you go the worse the drops get! Bizzare!

Strange....my dervish is in Vabbi, and I was wondering why I seem to be getting *more* gold drops than I used to when playing my characters through Factions. Chests also seem to be dropping more golds than I remember them doing- I'm guessing that the ration of gold to purple drops I get from chests in NightFall is perhaps 1:3 or 1:4 or so
I've managed to obtain a decent number of max damage weapons too (mostly bows and scythes) - but strangely no max swords or axes yet (apart from 1 green axe drop - Chorr's).
Again (perhaps strangely?) none of the gold drops I've obtained from chests have been swords or axes. I don't recall having received a gold focus item yet in NightFall FWIW
I can't comment on the high level areas of Nightfall, however, as my dervish is loitering in Vabbi, hoovering up the trade contract quests.

No i meant just that.. i have seen items actually drop ,for a very brief time, then its gone. Seen it do this in all 3 campains now.
I surely dont expect to see sup runes drop from ordinary type mobs, was just commenting that on istani , i hadnt seen many runes of any sort drop.
Im usually pretty happy with a collector or crafted weapons, and like to see , something besides whites drop now and then.
Since i wrote that , I did the mission from istani to the mainland , and just about fell over , 1 sup rune, 2 or 3 purple runes , and a few blue and purple weapons dropped on just that mission. probably more than i had got in all the time it took to get to that mission :-)
At the sanctuary I did enough missions and killing to get to general , didnt see much in the way of drops, defenitely seemed to be a lot less even whites, mostly coin and even then seemed sometimes there is nothing and another time everything drops a bit.
Decided to have a go at trying to get a green weapon , just for the sake to see how hard it was to get. I think took me about 8 tries or so when it finally dropped ,used 3 henchies and 3 heros. Wasnt many things to kill on way there but got a few purple items.
Figured i was on a streak so tried to get a green for my necro , after about 10 or so runs , little longer and more to kill to get there, got a gold and purple max dmg daggers that were not too bad just from the bugs. these dropped within moments of each other. On some runs nothing dropped , hardly even coins. Other runs , would get lots of coins or whites etc.
Overall i was pretty happy with getting the one green , and the daggers were a bonus I used on the assasin hero.
Kinda seemed like it was either feast or famine as the drops went.
