Bah, yes I did! Silly me. Vicariously is definitely the correct word for that phrase >< Living vicariously through one's children is the first time I'd heard that phrase. Odd how I can remember that.

I digress.

On a brighter note, I do like the hero skill trainers, as useless as they may be at this moment for me. I hope they'll add in more trainers like it in future chapters that take quest rewards of some kind in lieu of cash or skill points, to give the flexibility of Factions, and the free/easy skills of prophecies.

And I'm still thankful for the 1k cap. I don't like it (that's a million gold gone there!) but it was worse before...
There's a cap?? Ugh, I was planning on getting every single skill for my warrior.

Anyways, I didn't read through the whole thread so forgive me if this has been said:

There is yet another way to get skills. Go to the Zaishen challenge and trap the smite team until you get 2000 balthazar faction, unlock the skill you want. Once the skill is unlocked, it will be available for all of your characters to buy from that campaign. (eg. a Nightfall skill can only be bought in Elona)

Hope this helps, I've used this method to buy a few of my Healagon skills.

I think some of you are missing my point. I am the average PvE player, I don't farm much and I don't have much gold. I do not want every skill on every character, I do however, want every skill UNLOCKED for PvP purposes. I may not use them all, but I want to have them unlocked in case something comes up.

1k is not a lot of money, I agree, but when I have 100+ skill points across all characters, that is over 100k that I need to make use of those skill points. That is not something that I can get from just doing a few quests.

Furthermore, I enjoy using my PvE characters in PvP, so the idea that I can take only enough skills to make one build I like is not practical. My warrior needs to be able to switch from hammer to sword to axe for PvP. That means I need 64 skills at least. Same as my ranger and my assassin, all of that is adding up.

Quest rewards help with making money but not as much as everyone makes it out to seem. On another note, gold drops from monsters are crap as well. If you go out in a full group, say the average gold drop is 95 gold. That means that each player gets 12 gold (rounding up.) That means something like 80 gold drops for 1k. Granted white items drop that can be sold as well, but all of this takes a bit of a time investment.

Between school, work, a social life and sleeping, I do not have a TON of time for GW. I want to be able to get in and play, I do not want to have to spend my time grinding gold or grinding faction to unlock stuff.

I feel like Nightfall has even reduced the amount of skills you received from factions. Anyone remember the training missions in Shing Jea? Just by talking to the guy and getting the quests you could receive something like 10 skills, for free, on top of the skills you get when starting your character and doing the first few introductory quests. That little bit was really a huge help. in Nightfall my Paragon and Dervish both have 8 skills, thats it and I am forced to buy every other skill. Who cares that they each have 150 or 200 skills or whatever it is.

No, there is no cap on the number of skills you can buy. There is a 1K cap on the gold COST of those skills.

Hi! I completely understand your point of view. Being a university student myself, I don't have a lot of time to invest in video gaming. I've been unlocking skills through PVPing and getting Balth's points. So far, it's worked out for me real well, since I've UAXed faction and proph skills, and am about half way through the new monk skill list.

I think, with the new interface changes and pvp character rolling changes, it becomes much easier just to roll a straight up pvp character than kit out your pve character for pvp.

I agree that anymore, PvE characters do not have the advantage in PvP that they used to have. After all of the work that I put into my characters though, I would like to still use them. Prior to the PvP character changes though it was rough using a PvP only warrior. Weapon switches were limited wtih only 2 weapons, now you can set all of your switches which is great. I just would prefer to still use my PvE trolls so I feel like my work and time were worth something, even if it is just cosmetic now a days.

In terms of sheer speed of unlocking, I've always felt that 1K Balthazar's Faction comes faster than 1K gold + 1 skill point. A hell of a lot faster. Not quite fair, now, is it?

So your complaining its Faster to unlock skills by playing pvp (the objective) than it is to grind via PVE

and this is a problem , why?

I shouldn't have used the word "unlock", this is what caused you to believe that PvP was the ultimate objective I was talking about. Your point is valid given my inappropriate wording. What I actually meant was this: imagine two players, one a dedicated PvE player and the other a dedicated PvP'er. Both have the right to enjoy their characters to the fullest extent possible in terms of available skills and builds, but it turns out that it is much harder for a PvE'er to explore and experiment due to the skill costs.

Just normal playing, enjoying the game and doing whatever i felt like. The problem is that for some reason people refuse to play the game. You don't even have to farm you know? Just play the game normally and you've got more money than you ever need. 1 Plat is not much, it's nothing if you can get a manifold of that by just playing the game.
You don't need the best equipment right away, back in the prophecies days i was driving with a 53 AL Armor until the Ring of Fire and it was allright. And if you need a skill, well just go out, explore a bit, enjoy the game. And all of a sudden you've got enough money to buy 10 skills. No farming included.
Ummm, Ive played the game 4 times now, spending ALOT on secondary skills, and at the moment, all 4 of those characters, plus what I have in "the bank", is around 35k. Im not even trying to get all the skills, just the ones I need for a build idea. Prophecies, of course, I understand you get more from Nighfall, but for me, its been VERY difficult. Im currently just going out on Perdition, grabbing as many items as I can carry, and merching them. Ive only sold about 12 items to other players over the last 10 months, as I never seem to get anything anyone wants.
All of a sudden being about a week or so of play? It actually took me about a month to get my first 10k.
