Don't think hero's can change pets.

Have you try this?
Npc Nehdukah (outside Sunspear Great Hall) will take your pet.
You need to have Charm Animal equipped.
Maybe he will take your hero pet too.

Well a total farce!! If you make a mistake thats it, no change. I you would like to change your mind. Same thing tough luck!!The lack of information is worrying. Its only the forums, where people have found out to there cost,or good fortune, where you can pickup info. Nothing in the reams of paper that gives you a clue that by clicking you ruin the development of a character. So far NF is not living up to its promises...

While how to do this is posted several places elsewhere, I'll answer it here:
To charm a pet, just make sure all your henchmen and hero's are flagged far away, and flag the charming hero right next to the pet. Make sure he/she is set to "avoid combat", and that Charm Animal has a green check on the his/her skill bar (click the skill to check it). The hero will start the taming process shortly after. Thats it. And again, make sure you are charming the one you want.
