ok i changed up my suggestion and i guess my title isn't the most specific

my main problem is how trading, looking for groups to party up and socializing are basically mixed together... colored letters or not the gw community has been misusing gw's primitive chat system since forever... we should have the ability to open a chatroom in safe zones and i think it would be best if all chat can only be heard if you are near the people typing and not anywhere in town. Anyone else who cares to elaborate more on chatrooms or chatting issues is fine by me

i suggest with those problems that bother me listed above can be solved by adding in the ability to open up a private chatroom where u press a button, type in a short chatroom title, and then a small sign will appear over your char's head and people can double click to enter it and the creator can add a password or not... and u can only do this in town... but because "freekedoutfish" pointed out it will lag with so many min chatrooms.

I then thought the idea of having a LFG and GLF form of the auction house so people can form parties easier and most likely less lag than mini chatrooms

I'm not sure what you mean by a chat room. Somewhere that people can talk? How would it be made different from just talking in a town?

How do you propose a safe zone is made? It has to be moderated by an ArenaNet employee?

Having to be near people to hear them in a town is a very bad idea. If you want a private conversation with friends, form a group and talk in team chat with local chat off.

Between guild halls, guild chat, alliance chat, trade chat, whispers, team chat and local chat, I think they have most things covered.

A better suggestion would be to introduce more stringent rules on local chat, such as regex checking that nobody is trying to sell something.

Adds to lag and will reduce GWs to nothing more then a chat tool.

Plus it will be open to alot of dodgey goings on.

Mini chat facilities like we have is one thing, but if your suggesting full blown chatting facilities to have full on conversations, then this could lead to bad things.

Leave the chat-rooms to msn and yahoo and forums and software outside of GWs.

I meet most of the people on my friends list through teams, missions, basicaly everything I do in GW. Why would I stand around in one place chatting when I can meet people as I play. That and when playing you get a much better idea of what their like.

it won't turn into a chat tool i'm merely stating that we should be able to make chatrooms with a sign that appears above your head while you're in town not some completely new safe zone (which i meant to say just in some town), anybody ever played ragnarok online? like that...

and plus anyway chatting (mature fashion of course) is a big part of any online rpgs... because it's a necessity, gw just needs to keep it more organized some how is all i'm saying

no one in gw should feel the need to...:
1. type LFG and at the same time feel like it's going to be a disappointment b/c no one will ever notice that message... and an even bigger percentage of people won't even bother trying to type an LFG message because they know it will get swept away in gw's 50milliion sentences per minute world chat, therefore they will just settle with just trying to beat it with henchmen... so what's the point of multiplayer if no one's going to commercialize it

2. type WTS and have it swept away by even more WTS messages in a matter of 1/4 of a second which leads to caps lock spam and all chat spam but i see u guys already got a solution with the trade-room going on in the suggestion box so i'll leave that as resolved (pending anway). which means no more WTS messages every .1 seconds.

3. feel suffocated by all of the above spams and therefore u can't even chat with a person nearby normally or ask them a question u have in mind... this eliminates socializing of the smallest kind or even possibly make a friend for partying or leveling purposes...

so in the mean time i think gw adding a "create-a-chatroom" and a small sign that would appear on the creator's head and people who sees the chatroom's title and would like to join can just double click and have a private conversation isolated from all chat or use it for trade and LFGs too. It would help lower constant flow of messages being pushed up so fast, u have to stop whatever you're doing to read just some of the messages... right now i'm in Kaineng Center, and i just gathered up like 10 quests with all the npcs in town, U'D THINK i would like to do one w/ a party of HUMANS but u know what... i see no one trying to type LFG probably b/c they wouldn't bother with this chaos in the chatbox... so imma go ahead and type LFG for "place quest name here" in all chat... guess what happened after i blinked... my LFG message has been pushed up and out of the view of the chatbox in your interface... u will never know i was trying to look for a party to go questing with...

sure i'm in a guild but they're not there 24/7 not to mention even 12hours... only the rarest of the guilds probably have at least 10 people on all the time and even then they'd probably be busy doing their own agendas... and what u want me to do? go around spamming in all chat "anyone got a good guild with nice people and 10 of them on 24/7??" ??

If you don't want to hear anything about trade turn off the trade channel.

If you just want to chat with your guildies and alliance members, turn off all the other channels.

If you just want to talk to your friends turn off all chats and whisper them.

If you want to buy or sell something turn off everything but trade channel.

If you want to talk to your friends like it is a chat room invite them to your guild hall.

So... erm... what do we need a chat room for?

wow u r ignorant arne't u... does it look like anyone is following the rules? huh? u'd think i even bother making this topic if gw's chatbox was actually working the way it was intended to be? did u even read my first post? DID U MISS THE MISUSED PART or did u diliberately ignore it and tried to join the mob against me?

guesss what u also don't have to drive to work but people invented cars anyway and u don't have to play games but people have that around don't they? it's called an IMPROVEMENT and it makes things work more efficiently

So, and please correct me if I am misunderstanding something, your idea is essentially to have a chat function where all world-chat can be filtered out and only requested people can access it? What differentiates this from the teamchat already in effect? I suppose it would be useful for talking to more than the 8 people, but that seems somewhat of a niche use.

led-zep, yes gw is one big chatroom, that's the problem, thats what i'm trying to resolve

The Silver Star, not that type of chat, just game related type of chat, the most common ones, like selling, grouping, and keep all chat for just conversating

NinjaKai, thats true, i've had the same experiences as u but guess what... that usually happens AFTER i get pass the issues i listed in the beggining

freekedoutfish, yes i meant mini chat facilities, and i you're right it will likely lag if there's too many mini chatrooms... so i guess it's not that good of an idea... i'll edit my post and suggest a LFG menu because thats my biggest problem with the game, certain places make it so hard to find a group b/c it's flooded with for sale messages

Knightsaber Sith, never played D2, and it's not like your reason for disagreeing puts up much of an argument either

well see thats the thing... i'd like u to try and invite 8 random people and see which one will actually accept your invite... with created mini chatrooms, u can place a title that specifies what it is about "WTS weapons" "LFG for this quest" "do you like the Wii" intead of constantly yelling out WTS and having it disappear later on from being pushed up out of the chat log

i'm surprised that many of u are against it, it's like u don't have any of those issues i listed...

lets say u want to buy wood and u know someone out there is selling some but u don't know where that person is... U'D THINK it be easier for the wood seller to post up a sign saying "i sell wood" than u asking everyone if they sell wood...

now put yourself inside the wood seller's position, U'D THINK he would sell wood more easily if he posted up a sign attracting the wood buyers than if he would drive around the city yelling out "i sell wood!" hoping someone would hear him...

I SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE TO POST THIS EXAMPLE...

So you don't really care about chat rooms at all, what you care about is a poor trade system?

and a poor party finding system and a poor way to even want to socialize...

because normal messages are easily covered up by selling messages... u can't even help a noob asking a question in all chat or any sort of normal chat you know what i mean? doesn't eveyone do a lil sort of general conversation when they play other online games? startcraft? warcraft? other mmorpgs? gw doesn't have that and that eliminates a fine community

i'm saying the primitive trading system is giving me problems with the rest of the game
and it's not just about trading u can easily replace "selling wood" with "LFG/GLF" or "hi how was your day" and it will have the same outcome...

I see. In that case, I fail to see why chat rooms are mentioned at all. What you should be lobbying for is a better trade funcion. And I agree, GW trade system is stupefyingly badly thought out. When I first saw it I was amazed at the audacity of whoever made it thinking it would serve or function effectively. Of course, Anet is well aware of how poor the trade system is, so I'm not entirely sure what will be made better by repeating it.

yeah, that lead to me thinking of ways around it... without me consciously knowing it but i still think a chatbox has its uses to attract the people u want to attract instead of constantly reentering a message for whatever message it is u r trying to get people to notice.

Im sorry if i come off as negative...

Which locations do you generally try to form groups and chat and trade in?

You only get the chat and trade channels being flooded in trading locations like LA, Droks, the main one in factions and the new capitals in Elona.

Anywhere else doesnt tend to have issues with busy chat channels.

If anything, most small towns and outposts have a LACK of chatting in them.

Im still not really seeing the problem which you mentioned, because you can have private conversations with whispers or form a team to have up to an 8 person conversations, or chat in guilds and in guild-halls.

Obviously the chat facilities arent perfect and it doesnt cater for large numbers to have private conversations unless its between guild or alliance members.

I think I understand your idea about having an icon float above a persons head to say "i've created a chat room" and people can then choose to join it.

But if you consider how many people will then start doing that. You will end up with dozens of private chat-room conversations happening in each town, in each district.

That would add ALOT of lag.

This is why they keep it to just 2 main chat-types in each city.

I think most of what you want does already exist.

That sounds like Ragnarok Online the chat room on head.
GW is different, gw have team, guild chat,whisper..., I think no need, if you want quet plase just go to ID dis(except Droks lol) or travel map XD with friend some where in town or outside. Since outside theres no one else <.< like RO.

But I like to see next/future campain change about Trade chat. >.< Its hard to buy or sell with all spamming with ever 1sec. .@@

This game (no name i dont say), character have own room where people can come chat with you and you can put items for sell in your room for everone can come watch and buy it., even you are offline. Pretty cool huh
But I think this kind of thing will not happen in GuildWars.

Anarchy Online has a "Vicinity chat", where only people near your character can hear you. Its used alot around storefronts and mission terminals.

I dont think its need in GW, charater near you can hear you. Since GW is not full kind mmorpg and you go out with only party members. Would be funny if your party member run off and try to shout help, but no one hears him/her. XD
