Eurogamer Nightfall Review
aspectacle
Here is the review for Nightfall from Eurogamer.
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=69627
Interestingly enough the reviewer says that the game is the best of the series but gives the game 7/10, a lower rating than both Prophecies *and* Factions reviews from the same magazine.

if that is true, then this reported could be what people refrain to as n00b.. I hate the term, but is quite suitable in this case

He's probably been playing after the 31st where the AI in general has been destroyed. That alone would bring the general rating of all chapters down. I'm not talking about anti-farming AI either; I like that fix. I'm refering to the broken state of all mobs and wierd hero behavior.

Nightfall has been quite enjoyable, especially it's general lack of FedEx quests (Botanical Gardens not included). It's much like Prophecies in that you can stop and enjoy the scenery and not expect a band of assassins to drop from buildings and ruin what you hoped was going to be a short break.

Of course if you don't share my vague distaste for the ambience of Guild Wars then Nightfall will probably delight you. It's easily the best expansion so far and if there's more like this to come from ArenaNet then we can expect Guild Wars to get even more popular. |

There are spelling errors, horrible jokes, weird random references, over 2 paragraphs of useless "humor" and elaboration on things nobody cares about, and in general a shear display of ignorance about the game. Why in hell was he allowed to review this?
I laugh at him about his comment regarding PvP. It's noticeable IMMEDIATELY by people not even fully acuainted w/ the game that people are going to be assholes a lot of the time. I think that says something.

The person who wrote this review is a clown. He probably couldn't wait to get back to playing WoW where he could jump off cliffs and PK newbs WHEEEEEEEE. Playing Guild Wars probably made his penis feel tiny cause you can't solo your way to level 60. You need to actually rely on team tactics.
Nightfall is a 9.5+ out of 10 game in its genre.

I like how he says pvp its so complicated, it aint that easy when you dont have that unique weapon that gives you advantage in pvp is it?

Someone should go back to their WoW grindfest and let a person who knows what they're talking about review Nightfall. The whole article is insanely ignorant and dismissive... almost a foregone conclusion.
GG lack of bias.

The review was all over the map. He seemed to give consistent praise, then gave it a 7/10... that made no sense.
He did have some points near the end, regarding the "feel" of Guild Wars.
I came to Guild Wars off of playing WoW. The character movement in WoW is very "solid" feeling, and character models are "bulky" and "weighty" feeling. Also, combat tends to have a fairly solid feel to it.
Guild Wars characters have a certain "light" feel to them. The models are generally tall/skinny "runway model" in stature. The female models are either petite in stature or appear to be 6' and 120lbs. The male models are all "athletic" in stature.
Characters run well enough, but there's often "skips" in their movement when starting to move, changing direction, etc. that can be attributed more to how they are animated over any possible lag.
In battles, characters spin on their heels or "slide" around. They don't seem to be making any real contact with the ground. And there's all the floating going on with spellcasters.
Also, combat is a chaotic affair unlike many games. The pure chaos of battle, makes it nearly impossible to track everything that's going on. Most battles (for me) are simply Ctrl-C affairs, and watching health and energy bars and waiting for my skills to recharge so I can fire off my desired combos. As beautiful as Guild Wars is, I find I spend little time looking at the environment during battles and more time looking at UI squares and rectangles.
Objectively, when I first started playing Guild Wars, I honestly didn't like the "paper" feel of the game. I have since gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me. In fact, going back and playing WoW (or CoH), characters in those games now feel too "thick"... like they are dragging cinder blocks around with them.
But, I can see how someone could not like the "feel" of Guild Wars.

imho the article was just bad vg journalism. Instead of describing the game from an objective point of view, the author just said he had a "vague distaste" for GW, then went on lashing out. Finally he wanted to make amends for his critisizm by pointing out that NF is the sh.., if you just did not share his "vague distaste". On top he delivered bad jokes and the ridiculous statement that PvP means reading the skill description and that was too much for him...
Let's hope he at least played the game, but I doubt it. An article like that can be assembled by a 12 year old and some press releases (Did Anet deliver them in the form of an Audio Book?). the rating 7/10 reflects the total nothingness of fact based opinion. Sad attempt to appear tough to the editor, say "it's for the fans" in order to please them. Cash the cheque.

But this part you talked about the chaotic battle in Guild Wars. Now first I agree the battle do look chaotic. But being able to see what's going on on the battle field distinguish you from pr0 to n00b. This is very common among the nub wammos, who end up dying when the rest of the group had retreated already. This is also very common on those not so noob monks, who get body blocked in the corner and get killed. Field positioning is the most important to Ritualists as their spirits can't get too close together or get killed in an instance.
This is also the reason that make Ritualist and Mesmer hard to play. Because they need to watch the battlefield and hand click to select the appropriate target for their spells, unlike other other classes just press C or tab and lock target.

Prophecies: Me/R (domination/interrupt)
Factions: Rit/N (minion master)
Nightfall: I purposely chose to play something melee, so I'm playing a W/P. I'm finding it to be... bland... but I didn't want to be "yet another Dervish". Since my previous tactic of taking out the soft targets is foiled (spellcaster AI that runs for the hills), I find myself just "Ctrl-C"ing my way through Nightfall.
