I would just like to remind you about Hero's

I would just like to remind you about hero's are not a replacement in coop mission as real players.Don't forget this is cooperative game where we are all cooperate and coodinate with each other. This is mostly in coop missions even if you have heros or not.I would suggest if your hero is not needed use real ppl as to the reason most are outfitting thier hero's with runes/dyes etc..They are just like henchies don't forget.

Heroes>PUG's
I beat Nightfall entirely without once using anything but Heroes and Hench. With a ranger. There is absolutely no need to ever suffer a PUG again.

I got through the same way, with a sin
Although admittedly I did decide to party up with one dervish PUG at some stage...
noticing his skills in action:
mending > pious assualt... > mending > pious assualt -.-
and that was the last time I played with someone real going through NF with my sin

The plural for Heroes is Heroes, not Hero's...

The only time I've every PuGed in NF was Gates of Madness. Even then, I still thought I did better without a PuG.
I saw a Dervish at the last mission spamming "Dervish, LFG, I can spam Deep Wound!" Since that's ineffective on the last mission, I told him politely that it didn't work, he called me an idiot and a pervert. (???)

Anything that won't Rage-quit on me is better than Pugs.

You know I can't figure this one out at all. :P OMG you sicko how dare you say Deep Wound isn't useful on the last mission?!?
:: snicker ::
I'm loving Heroes, but there was something satisfying about getting a group and kicking some butt. It's cool for everyone to say "GJ, guys!" at the end of a buttkicking mission. The problem is the jerky people that are killing PUGs, not Heroes. People yell at other people, call them "noobs", tell them they "suck", that they don't know how to play, "OMG skip cutscenes or I'll quit!", ect. Very few people offer up useful, constructive, and non-abusive advice, and apparently when they do, they're called idiots and perverts.
Hell, it's enough that I've been tempted to try to just get a huge group from here to meet up to hit FoW or UW and go have fun without worrying about using cookie cutter builds ect.
But then one bad apple would get in there anyway. :P

For pve, pugs make me angry. With a full group of hench/heroes, if we wipe, I know exactly whose fault it is (mine). Playing with real people is more fun, but I only do that when I'm helping someone else, or when it's someone I know well (a guildie or friend).
That being said, pvp with heroes is lame. I pvp to play against human opponents, not 1 person and 5 ai's. It's just not as exciting, or challenging, playing vs heroway.

I miss the fun and entertaining PUGs too.
I dont miss the 49 non-fun PUGs with morons that came with every good one though.
gg PUGs,
RIP.

Diablo???
I still pug with friends and guildies, there are plenty of those around, and an occasional helping hand to a lower level player. In cases like those, my heroes only play the role of replacement players or supplementary players.
Fungus Amongus
Heroes are a great substitute when decent PUGs don't seem to be available. As a matter of fact, combining PUGs and heroes is a pleasurable experience.
As a matter of fact, rather than going for a full 8 man PUG for Pogahn Passage, an alliance member and I made our own 2 man, 3 heroes each PUG. It was a piece of cake. Ah, what a PUG. Did I mention we filled the empty spots with heroes?

Just release the next chapter as a single player offline game and be done with it. Why even call it a multiplayer game anymore, since people seem to not play it that way for large sections of it as it currently is. Hey, no more err=007s right?

No, they will never replace a coordinated team of good players, but I'm much more confident in a team I've designed, planned, and equiped over a standard random group full of strangers. While it is more enjoyable to play with people that you know and trust.... they aren't going to be ready to go everytime you want to cap some obscure skill on the far side of the world, nor will they always be willing to play through a mission again so you can map out .03% of the map. What Heros have added to this game is an enormous amount of freedom, and to me that is much more important that struggling through the game with 7 random people for the sake of cooperation. I team up with Guildies, Allys and people from my friends list quite often... but I'm very happy about not being tied down to a PuG.

If it weren't for the rage-quitters, snobby monks, and just plain rude and mean people, plus other similar things, I'd still PuG. The problem is, no matter what, there always seems to be one of those on the team and it always makes me want to rage-quit (unfortunatly I dont). They ruin the game and make it un-fun, plus usually those people suck, a lot, so on top of making it unfun, they usually make the party wipe somehow.
That's why I only go with heros, or people I know now. And if no one I know is online, and I can't seem to get past where I am with heros and henchies, then I'll try PuGing again.

@ OP
Heros are far superior then PUGS, i'ld rather have Zhed who can nuke well, then have some stupid paladin with mending who would probably rage anyway when there mom calls them for dinner.
Also, you can command your henchies to move to certian locations, or even if enemy ele uses metior shower, u can command them to move.
hell, u can do a half job of ranger spike in hero arenas if your quick with the hero commands.

I did Thunderhead Keep last night. A monk left because he didn't get a gold.
Tell me why I shouldn't use Heroes instead.

Heroes >>> PUG >>> Henchies
A guildie and myself played through the entire game together with 3 heroes each. Being able to build a team around ourselves meant me were ten times more effective than most PUGs would have been. We can setup teams that don't conform to the cookie-cuter team of 2 monks, 2 eles, 2 warriors, 2 other. No more 'get another monk or I leave' or 'omfg why you accept, we need monk not mes'. I can count on my heroes having a rez. If I tell them not to go there, they won't go there. Plus, now I can go back and finish those bonus/maters missions in Tyria and Cantha that I tried and failed so many times in a PUG. My heroes amuse and entertain with their witty little comments far more than any random group could.
-Loki-
I've been pugging because playing with heroes bores me, however, heroes are better than nearly every PvE pug you will ever play with.
Theus
I'd just like to remind you that heroes are superior to other players.
Which also probably includes the OP.

only did 1 mission with a person and thats because we were the only 2 in the zone at the time and he asked me and being the nice person i am I said yes. I prefer beating the game at my own pace without dealnig with others then i go back and do missions i need and help other with real people!

IMO Henchies are much more effective than an average PuG (note that i said average)
Effectivenes scale would be more like this
Heroes>>>Henchies>>>PuG
Fun Scale would be what you listed
Heroes>>>PuG>>>Henchies (although the henchies are witty now too...)
And, for the record, a "henchie" (pronounced "Hero") that I set up with specific skills, armor, runes, skill usage, etc that are synergistic with my build is much better than some random idiot who tries to Power Leak a Troll's Unguet or screams "I have SS on me" then *frenzy spam*, or, worse than either of those, "I'm Dead!" "I'm Dead" "I'm Dead!" "I'm Dead" "I'm Dead!" "I'm Dead" "I'm Dead!" "I'm Dead"
Edit: I realized it looked like I was having a go at you Miss Persephone, I wasn't.

To better fixthat chart,
Heroes > Factions Henchmen > PUG's > Prophecies Henchmen.
Cause its a fact that Factions Henchmen were leaps and BOUNDS better then that of Prophecies.
Heroes > Factions Henchmen > PUG's > Prophecies Henchmen.

Prophecies henchmen were terrible until you got Devona and Co. Then they were actually pretty decent.
The common belief in GW is that most players you will ever meet are not only completely incompetent, but also terrible people.

i know what you mean, however, AI has its limits, sometimes (SOMETIMES) PuG's do provide you with people that arn't tactically inclined 11 year olds that rage quit. As for me, i got to the realm of torment with only ONE pug, which proves Heroes are good and will always be my first choice on anything i need a PuG for, then if i can't do it then, PUG IT IS
draxynnic
My progression would be:
Guildies>Good PuGs>Heroes>Decent PuGs>Henchies>Bad PuGs.
Yes, decent and even good PuGs do exist (or, at least, did). They're just rare.

more importantly im in my own 1 man guild atm looking for a bigger one to join, but im takin my time with that, so i PuG a lot. granted, i had some ridiculously bad ones, like in the mirror of lyss when some necro was playing a degen spike and trying to tank, then yelling at the rest of us for not doing what we should. he didnt rage quit (we lost anyways), but then we kicked him, got someone who actually knew what the mission involved, and had a build for it, and more importantly, knew how to play without wasting time typing at all the other members of the party to do what he thought needed to be done and left us to our own devices to complete the mission. despite the frustrating first group, i had a lot more fun playing a PuG than i did with other missions that i just brought heroes on.
IMO
Friends>PuGs (a-hole free)>heroes>hench>bad PuG

I like heroes because now I don't have to wait to do a quest or a mission!
I remembere when I needed to be in a PUG for Eternal Grove I had to wait for so long, and I never forget THK ..... the pain the pain to find a monk and people willing to play nice!

I use them as replacement for henchies and I've always used henchies to replace pugs.

I love heroes. This game has turned into kotor.
Even better is being able to team with one other friend and having even more heroes while teamed with a good friend. So its like.. multi-player kotor with better combat. Perfect!

Admittedly, I doubt I'll ever PUG again with heroes... but I know a good number of the people on my friends' list came from fun PUGs. I'm glad that I can avoid the 9/10 awful groups you come across, but some of the best experiances in GW I've had were with them
Domino
I've played through all 3 games with my friends, and I've yet to be impressed by a henchman. Heroes still get stuck, they still pull dumb stunts, and they can't adapt to a situation. The only thing they're good for is reflex based builds, (I.E. interupting, spam healing, etc).
It just baffles the mind to hear these sociopathic tendencies emerge with people proclaiming how it's so awesome to play through the entire game with henchmen. If you don't want to play with people, why did you buy a game that requires an internet connection? ... seriously... why not just play Oblivion or Gothic or something???
It just makes no sense to me... maybe I'm missing something here, but I didn't buy Guild Wars for the single-player experience. If I wanted that I'd be playing a different game... that's just me though.

PUG > heroes = hench
It only seems like you need heroes because the henchmen choice is so awful in nf. In factions you had interupt henchmen, a couple of warriors, protection henchmen...

A strictly single-player game doesn't give me the freedom to play with friends whenever I want to. With Guild Wars, everyone gets what they want in terms of how you play, and who you play with. But hey, you can always throw a hissy and tell people to go play another game...
