Infantryman Hareh
nkari
Ok, I first saw this npc standing around outside in The Sulfurous Wastes when I was getting my exploration title. He has the exclamation point of a quest above his head. I'm attempting to complete all the quests in Nightfall currently, and I really, really want to be able to access this npc. So far, I've been unsuccessful in attaining the pathway to him. First, and image of the subject:
As you can see, he is out there. Now, allow me to present the difficulty in gaining access to his person. You see, Infantryman Hareh appears to be stranded on a raised piece of land separated from the rest of the explorable area. The image is taken from across the way of a sulfur pit right near the location of the boss with Order of Undeath. Here is a Mission Map view of where Hareh is located, he is circled:
Now, I do have a theory on how to get access to him. It involves a pillar that seems conveniently placed, and straight standing, for being in the area. I have not, however, found a way to make it fall across the sulfur path to make a bridge from one raised area to the one in question. A picture of the proposed bridge:
As you can see, it appears that it is the perfect item to fall across the gap. Further backing up of this bridge theory seems to come in the way of the radar map, here:
The circled section seems to show a causeway across the sulfur exactly where that pillar is located. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get it to fall. I've tried getting monsters close to it and using the worm siege attack from below and everything else I can think of. If anyone has an answer to my predicament, please let me know!

I was thinking the exact same thing! :O

Thought the same about that pillar...anyone tried taking different heroes out there? I was thinking Goren might be a good choice...
/edit - didn't work...maybe it's a quest arc which involves destroying that...wonder if the Rune of DOOM would help

Reason
unless the pillar has a name (in other words you can lock on to it and fire a wurm siege) then it can not be knocked down and since you said you tried the wurm siege then i would say to abandon that idea and start again.

Alright, after playing around with some options (mostly assassin teleport skills that ended up not working), I remembered the skill consume corpse. I equipped it onto my Ranger and it works for getting you up on the ledge. I then ran past some remaining monsters and spoke with Mr. Hareh:
As you can see, much like the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz, he is in need of some brains. I, or course, was happy to provide him with the tome he so required. Apparently you are able to still hold an item while using consume corpse so that worked out alright.
After granting his request he immediately spawns another task for me to help him with. A task that proves to be somewhat more difficult:
You see, Infantryman Hareh wants to follow you this time to complete the ritual of raising his undead army. Now, if It was possible to equip Hareh with consume corpse himself then that might not be such an issue. However, he has no way of getting off that Balthazar-blasted piece of land. So, once again I am stuck. Any suggestions?

Confirmed. You can knock the pillar over like that. :]
-.-
Wow, Anet got creativity.
Desires
Thats actualy impresive on their part going to do the quest now for kicks.

Thanks Kidchaos =)
I figured there had to be a normal way to get to him somehow, unless he was not supposed to be accessed yet for some reason or another. Seems that he does not have another quest to offer after the second.

God, sometimes I just feel so stupid!
I spent ages running round that edge looking for a way to reach him, and didn't think of either consume corpse, or knocking over the pillar..
I don't think I expected this level of creativity in the game! LOL
Thanks all.

Wow, intractable environments? Wasn't that one of the original selling features of GW, but something that never really made it into Prophecies? Very neat.

Cool - had to be the only wurm skill I didn't try
/edit: The first quest of his arc is bugged - only the person who has the book can complete the quest...anyone else can't further the quest without rezoning...
It seems as soon as you get close to him with the book the quest is complete - anyone else can't then complete it even with the book...

I couldn't figure out how to get to him either. It occured to me too that the pillar would make a good bridge. It's gonna be tricky to use that adrenaline skill on the pillar. I think I'll have to restart the map a few times just to get it right. Thanks to those that figured this out for me and saved me some frustration.

If you have adrenaline probs, attack the mobs on either side of the ridge - use the siege as an opener...a few hits and you'll have enough adrenaline to get the pillar down
Kalki
Nah it's just that I already killed everything on the map when I read this thread. When I tried with a fresh map mobs were closeby and it was easy to get the adrenaline built up.
I did a little extra testing because I thought maybe it was the knockdown effect of the skill that caused the pillar to fall. I brought "Grasping Was Kuurang" and dropped the ashes near the pillar, but nothing happened. It seems that everything is working as intended on this quest, and it's a little extra reward for determined explorers and adventurers.
I hope to find more such quests in Nightfall. Just in case there are more of these hidden quests, and I by chance miss any it would be nice if there were a list somewhere, perhaps on GuildWiki or a stickied thread in this forum. Although this is the only so-called hidden quest I've found so far. Maybe some of the Avatars of the Gods give quests like they did in Prophecies, and I should start kneeling at the shrines more often.
