More 4 player teams in the future?
kade
Anyone remember the dragon festival 4 player mission? Lets consider how easy that mission would have been with 8 players. Now consider how much more planning it took to set up the team build correctly and the way in which each player was really utilized to his/her full potential.
I found this to be tremendously more fun and challenging and allowed me as a monk to actually have to "work" at my heals in pve for once...not to mention that this would really use the hero aspect of the game much more effectively....what are your thoughts?

Yep it was great, I hope they do something like it again.
I think one of the Titan quests also gives you only 4 players. Some of them are supposed to be limited but you can form a party at ToA and run back, but one of them I did with 4 players and that was fun too, fighting huge level 24 mobs with a little party of 4.

As far as 4 player missions go, they are fun and challenging at times, but sometimes frustrating. If you get a well-rounded group together, it can be easy and a lot of fun. I wouldnt mind seeing more optional stuff like that come along every once in awhile.

I did the ascalon titan quest with a party of 4. It wasn't that hard. What I found hard was Defend Northern Kryta Province during the Halloween even cause there was only 1 other guy who wanted to do it in LA. We tried it with his heroes and henchmen. But would get pwned near the end.
I don't see why anyone would want to run from TOA all the way through Kyrta, the Northern Shiverpeaks and Ascalon just to do that quest with 8 people.. I would take way to long just to get there and it's not that hard.
Edit: I could see going to TOA for DNKP though.

I really like the 4 party mission challenges. That usually where I've met the best pug players often because the better players often enjoy the challenge regardless of the reward. I met many people during the Dragon festival who were doing it just for the sake of completing it, and "beating" the mission. We didn't really care about the Jade Orbs we got.. there were certainly easier ways to get them.
Also the sense of accomplishment can be more because you are usually the only one on your team performing a specific task. And for me as a monk, challenge is always fun.

I would love to see this reinstated as well. It was funny seeing how many people scream "OMG, this is impozzible!!!#!@!" in town.
Kind of validates the good players versus the marginal ones.

I wish they would, 8 player teams is one of my least favorite parts of GW.
I vastly prefer smaller teams of skilled players over large teams of (even skilled) players, since I enjoy situations where the actions of each person really matters.
In a larger group, its easier for someone to play poorly and have someone else take up the slack (and even more annoyingly, increases the odds of one person wiping out the enjoyment of an even larger group of people by doing something catastrophically stupid)
Beyond that, a group of 4 is more intimate, and gives you more of a chance to see an inidividuals talents (and quirks), whereas a party of 8 gives little time for anyone to breath - or to notice you. 8 player parties also massively increase the odds of 'afk, brb, have to go, blah blah blah'
Conversations in a full group often feel a bit like packing 8 people into a dune buggy, then going high jumping across a field of moguls while three people try to drive.

Yeah. The 4 player Titan quest in Ascalon was fun. It was a little frustrating at first, but once we tweaked our builds a bit, it was great to win.
Unfortunately my friend and I did that right as Factions came out and we're stuck now unable to do Defend Kryta and Denravi, because those places are dead when it comes to party formation to do those quests.

Gets annoying with four people, i feel like the damage output isn't enough when its really just relative

Defend Denravi is thankfully an easier one, I got a couple of guildies and a random person who happened to be in Denravi to help with it. The great thing about this one is there's nobody to protect (providing you leave Evennia at the start) so you can die again and again, and go back killing the groups one by one. Also kill the boss finishes it, even if there are mobs left. Also go mesmer secondary and bring Elemental Resistance, makes it easier.
I think the reason heroes were added in Nightfall is because quests like this are going to get harder and harder without real players, but you can give your heroes a Titan beating build and do it easily with one 1 or 2 real people.

I did enjoy the four man Titan quests (although I threemanned Titan source).
What I would actually prefer, though, is the challenge that the OP speaks of in a 4-man team, for an 8-man team. That is to say, you have to spend the same amount of planning on the build and such to get the 'full' team through.

I really like the idea of those quests that require 4 people, my only problem with them is that paragons aren't nearly as useful in a 4-man team as an 8-man team. In the very spirit of the fact that party optimization is important with fewer people, i feel that paragons would have almost no chance of getting into a group to do them. I suppose heroes are an option, but if the quest/mission is hard enough to require optimization and teamwork, heroes would definitely leave something to be desired.

but some classes will never be used in those like assasin unless the assasin has his own monk becuase he will jsut get mauled up from the big strong monsters but then again less people to heal

Well, look at it this way. Its better to take the time to travel all that way(I finished it with 6 man group from Yaks) than to go with 4 and repeatedly fail. I prefer to have the best chance of success I can get.
Guildmaster Cain
Shadow Nexus Challenge mission is a 4-man mission...
And I think I did Abaddons, RoF and Hells all with a 4-man team before, since a lot of people dropped and we were just way 2 persistant to continue.
Even did Defend Droks with a group of 4. Fought our way to and killed Maw with 2 other people... try that for size... u big nasty wurm thingy.

If I would be looking for a challenge i would just round up 4 ppl and have a go at it. You can go on a quest with as many ppl as you want. I always enjoyed 4-man green-farming around Vasburg Armory, even if i didn't get a green...

More variety in party-sizes would be good. Nothing magical about the number 8. I'd like to see a few 4-man missions in difficult areas, and maybe a few 12-man'ers too.
Darcy
But as bungusmaximus said, you don't need to go with a certain number of people in your party. The 4-6-8 is a maximum limit. You can do quests and missions with as small a party as you want. It's just hard to get other party members to agree to the smaller size.
