There has to be some way to make your henchies spread out or clump together without flagging them.

This is as good a time as any to resurrect this suggestion, with the full hero party update just having been announced.

A spread out button would be a good and much quicker alternative to flagging each hero apart separately, and in areas where there are a lot of lethal AoE attacks (for example in the Foundry of Failed Creations) this would be essential.

I also like the idea of being able to give our heroes targets. It'd be great in situations where you have to protect a NPC. I can't blame him for wanting to heal a half dead bone minion rather than Prince Rurik, but still - it's a pain.

I like the idea of formations. Like say they define a set number of formations and allow players to pick and load 3 just like you load your builds before you leave a town/outpost. Then instead of 3 flags you have 3 formations. You simply click formation 1, 2, or 3. to change up.

But at least a slider or something to say "spread out" and "form up" would be nice.

It's still a pain. A "fan out" command would be great, although there's already a shortage of space around the minimap (where are the flag buttons for heroes 4, 5, 6, 7 going to go?!) ...

This is a great idea...

I was about to post this idea today, but did a search and found this thread....am really surprised it doesn't have more replies.

An example, nothing intricate, of how to implement this is found in the computer game, Age of Empires: Age of Kings.

One can choose from either 3 or 4 different pre-made templates for one's troops that are in formation with your character;

Box Formation, Fan-out/Scatter, etc...

Having a selection for a Line and having them spaced out would be nice, as well as having an option to ensure they stay with you when you want to run/sprint away...er, I mean, "withdraw strategically"

I am also tired of trying to flag my Heroes and Henchmen to different areas to just avoid the Area-of-Effect damage that we are constantly exposed to, and taking the time to flag them away from one another takes up valuable combat time that I could be doing something more useful
(in other words, it's still a great game, but I get frustrated a lot, uttering words that are less Gentlemanly than I am proud of ).

Again, great idea, do hope to see this available, not just in GW2, but in GW1
