The Wurm Guide
Savio
Updated for new Sahlahja rules. Maddened Spirits are now the ones who drop the Ancient Armor Remnants, and Maddened Strike will remove enchantments while you're not in a wurm. Getting Remnants are now ridiculously easy, as opposed to the easy but time-consuming way before. High scores have not been reset.

There seems to be a lot of bugs with the wurms. First of all, Junundu Wail will not heal you if there's an enemy nearby. Even if your whole party is alive, using it in a fight has no effect besides the animation. Also, one of the skills you get from eating a corpse is bugged as well. It looks like it's meant to do damage and knock down or something, but all it does for me is some fancy graphics and nothing else. The wurms sometimes spit out one of my heroes or henchmen for no apparent reason, causing them to die in very inconvenient places.

4. SKILLS
Quote:
Quote:
15 energy, 3 second cast, 10 second recharge
Skill. Resurrect all dead junundu within earshot. If there are no enemies within earshot, gain 500 Health for each junundu in range.
4-6b. Choking Breath
5 energy, 1 second cast, 1 second recharge
Skill. Target foe and all adjacent foes are interrupted. Any interrupted foe who was casting a Spell is knocked down for 4 seconds. Choking Breath does not do damage, all it has is an interrupt and a conditional knockdown.
I don't experience the random spitout that others talk about, so I can't comment on that.

Wait, isn't that exactly how the skill was intended?
Junundu Wail will heal you if there are no enemies in your aggro bubble, otherwise, it will only resurrrect dead Wurms.

Sounds like it's working exactly as it inteded.

A bug maybe?. If you bring SoC into the 4th skill slot and ride a junundu. Try to kill a boss of your profession and use SoC. The SoC will be replaced by Junundu Siege even though you havent complete Horde of Darkness.

Err, if I run from Sunspear Sanctuary > Gates of Desolation, can I get another player who can already turn into a wurm (I can't) then run to Remains of Saljahla then run to Bone Palace?
I do not want to skip ahead in the game, I just want the 10K armor found there.

Not that it much matters (seeing how I never use the skill), but I was wondering...if the skill that is replaced with Junundu Feast (Choking Breath, Blinding Breath, or burning Breath) was random or if there actually might be some thing that will trigger one of those skills to be replaced in JF's place over the other two. ATM...I'm thinking it is just random, but it makes me wonder.

nice guide, although i like to do the challenge only by preparing to attack mad spirits and attacking them XD
gone through it 2 times, the second i got 158 on the score and 3 armor remnants XD
all i do is run around killing infestation until a spirit appear, then run from it until the second appears, them kill a greater infestation and kill them both. if i get too damaged on the fight, i leave and re-enter the junundu, else, tunnel and bite or smash and bite works, rarelly wail.
also, i noticed u dont inform what happens to pets when u enter the junundu. i tested it out with acolyte jin and her pet, altough i believe it also happens to urs. when u enter the junundu, the pet dies. when u leave the junundu, the pet gets back to life with full health at urs (in my case, jin's) exact location. i believe its a work around because they couldnt think of a better way of saying that ur pet entered the junundu with you XD
EDIT: i just saw some questions i can answer around here:
if u cant call a junundu and ure in a party with someone that can, then a message will display saying u cant call a junundu and no one else is able to call it while youre in the party.
u can get another 10k armor in dajkah inlet (something like that), the challenge mission u can get to as soon as u get to the kournan territory, altough i do find this challenge more fun :P
i also believe its random for the feast, dont really see anything that could trigger on its casting as u can get different type of skills from the same mob corpse.
the spitout mostly happens to melonni, never seen it happen to anyone else so far, and it happened on one exact spot in the middle of the sulfur that there is no sulfur. i know this because i also managed to leave my junundu on that exact spot, and taking one step forward made me wish i hadnt discovered that spot XD
and nwo a question to finish this post: are only maddened resposible for drops? isnt it maddened and lost spirits?

It was previously Lost Souls, but changed in one of the December updates to Maddened Spirits. That change also prevented people from 55ing the place as Maddened Strike now removes all enchantments.
If you're using the wurm in the challenge mission, Tunnel and Bite are all you need to stay alive. Really, if all you want are armors, you just do Greater Infestation, Maddened Spirit, Greater Infestation, Maddened Spirit, etc. But that's no fun, and you can actually use lifesteal on the Maddened Spirits to kill them. (I wonder when Arenanet is going to fix lifesteal going through "invincibility".)
Pets get junundus in the Gates of Desolation mission, but only during that mission. It seems a slip on Arenanet's part. I've known about it, just been too lazy to write it in.
Breath skills are random. They're also a waste of time.
I've only lost henchmen in the sulfur a few times, and quite frankly I've never cared. 7 junundu still roll everything else in the desert.

Nice Job on the Guide. Makes Wurms more understanding.
Officer Dick
u mean pets gets theyr own junundu? lol. outside that mission they just die and ressurect when u leave ur junundu at ur location...
theyve seriously slipped in that mission, because if u send ur heros and henchmans and other party members to stand over a rocky spot and u click the spoor, they also become junundu, and they can walk over that rock terrain unless they try to go onto another terrain from the rock, then theyll leave like if theyre going into the rock. Also, for this to work with heros, block their leave junundu skill or theyll use it. in fact, blocking it also helps with them randomly leaving in the sulfur, and if u want them to leave u can click them urself or step on a rocky terrain, so i really dont see why not to block it.
actually, greater-maddned all the time can be very hard to do, especially when u kill most greater in an area and have to run to another, therell be lots of maddened after u when u get to a greater :P but hey, attack is the best form of defense...

You may want to add that this is a brilliant method of lvling up your heroes
because your heroes levels dont matter and they will be fighting high level monsters :P

Good job an extensive guide on wurms (no sarcasm intended)

Its also worth pointing out the Para skill "Can't Touch This!" you can use it to just stand there and fight the maddened spirits. I don't have a Para or Rt so i use N/P with touch skills. I kill an infestation to start with and create a well of blood to get to full health before the first spirit arrives. Stand at the side of a greater infestation to steal health from both the spirit and the greater, get to 60 points and still have all 20 greater infestations to play with. ceate a well from the dead spirit. Anyway point being "Can't Touch This!" comes in handy for when you dismount the wurm and go running about especially for Lost Souls in rocky areas.

Yeah, I just got to the Wurm part of Nightfall. I can easily say it was so stupid to put this into the game. I hate every bit of it. It's taking everything I have to finish the last 3 or 4 missions of this game.

Where do you exactly farm Maddened Spirits in Sahlahja with the Monk55?

It's part of the main quest, you'll get there just following the story.

Well thank you, i have actually mastered the junundu and it feels good being strong, and thank you for that very long tip that you wrote fifteen over fifty.

Most excellent guide. I was starting to wonder if anyone understood them.

First this is a great guide!
Second I would not say "ridiculously easy" as so far I only get a armor drop for every 25-35 kills. I can kill four at the start area then maybe two to three more before they spawn to quick to deal with so it takes a long time and a lot of rounds.

Arenanet said from the start that it would be extremely difficult (read: heavy antifarm code) to farm challenge missions. If you're there just to get armors for your own heroes, it's easy to get your 4. If you're there to mass farm armors, your best bet is to get several characters there and do a run or two on all of them every few weeks or so.

It is more like absurd!
I got first armor after about 25 kills or so the second after about another 35 more kills, I am at over 60 more kills and have not got a third.
At this rate it will take me a month to get the other three I need so yea I think your right and I am going to have to run other toons through the challenge just to get the other three I need for just for one toons set of heroes.
This is typical of Anet though, confusing challenge with just stupid, leaving us to have to figure away around it.

On my first trip back there in nine months, I got four armors out of ~15 kills. It's kinda hard to get more than 20 Maddened Spirit kills, since there are only 20 Greater Infestations. You pretty much just go in, kill a Greater, kill a Maddened, repeat until you're dead or you have four armors.
EDIT: Holy crap, it's been a year?

I did not kill them all at once I have been going in and out of the challenge killing 5-8 per round over and over. I really can't kill more than 6-7 Maddened's in any one round because they seem to spawn faster and faster the more you kill.
Edit: Got a third at 71 kills seems like the drop rate increases exponentially on these.

Based on the information I read in the guide I had no problem with the Wurms and enjoyed the double LB points in the Wastes. Thanks again.

I'm tempted to put this thread out of its misery, but I can't. Someone else unsticky it if they want to.

My first post ... just to say a big thank you for the guide! I just finished the first part (before reading the guide) with H/H ... I loved the wurms, and chuckled all the way through. But now, you've answered many of my questions, and I'm sure will be a help in my upcoming wurm missions.
Acumen
You have -22 armor rating against elemental damage types while in a wurm. Physical can't really be tested.

Great guide. Now I can do sahlahja challenge mission. I create a tpf file with the paths on the map to do it easier. I hope it will help you all.

Thnx dude, tho I got good at RoS begore reading this guide. The first time that I got over 60 points was awesome, cos I got 5 AARs and a place on the daily score board. I think I'll leave the mission for a while as your guide suggests the drop rate of AARs goes up if you don't do it for a long time. By any chance would you mind telling me how long you waited until you played the mission again for the increased droprate?
