If you have money to spare just buy four of each dye and start experimenting that's how I get the colors I want now.

The big advantage of the new dye preview is that you can test the result of dye mixing without the risk of wasting any dye.

So there is really no need for this thread. Just go ahead and try yourself!

three of each dye suffices, I doubt you'll use 4 reds on one piece of armour or something.

Black + Blue will make a blue that is darker than regular blue, but still not near as dark as black. Adding any more black to that combination is almost near insignificant of a difference.

Any color + itself = a lighter version of the original color, EVEN black. The system is flawed in that it's very hard to get dark colors on a lot of armors. There are a few armors though that make colors a darker tint like my necromancer's 15k Sunspear (purple+green=black), but the same color combination on one armor doesn't always match the same general color on another. For example, that certain combination on my necro's armor makes it black (with a slight shimmer of red) while using it on my assassin's armor makes it a dark blue-gray.

My purple+green example.

Edited to add another example of difference:

Oh Noes! The 'burbs!

I tried to replicate my dye mix on my warrior's armor. No go. It's in the area, but so obviously not the right color that I couldn't use it. I'm now afraid to buy any new armor pieces to mix with my old ones. Very sad situation.

Purple + green on warrior armor gets you a dull darkish blue. Ugly.

I gotta say I LOVE the dye mix preview. LOVE it.

The Dervish is kinda hard to find a nice DARK green for. One green gives you a decent dark green, but a bit lighter than I like. Green+Green does indeed = a LIGHTER green, while, very nice in and of itself, not what I was looking for. Mixing Green+ most any (( non black)) Color only gets you lighter, teals, and even browns.

I've played the game 8 months and never even seen a black dye drop so... looks like I'm not mixing Green and black yet.

Oh well. It's not the end of the world. I sorta wish each armor had it's own "Base" color like they used to. You see alot, ALOT of gray now and to me, that blands down the game a bit. I know I ran around 90% of the starting island with gray armor because it's just not worth dying armor you're going to grow out of so fast. I think alot of people reserve Dye untill they can get max armor, be it just high defence stats or their 1k 10k or 15k stuff.

I saw a nice dark green dervish in Primeval armor, and I asked him what the combination was. Green + Black. I'm considering it for my dervish when I get him his max armor. I tested it on the armor he has now and not sure how much I like it, though.

The two dye of the same colour thing gives you a lighter colour but also accentes the shadows (folds).

I have a question for those of you mixing two dyes for a lighter color.

When I put two dyes of the same color into the preview window, I get a message that all the dyes can't be the same color. Are you just mixing the two before applying to the preview window?

No, you can't mix dyes outside of the preview window. Nor can you actually apply multiples of the same color, ie, if you have 2 reds in the dye preview, you can't click the 'Apply' button. I, and others, just use this an example to point out the new changes of how dye affects other dye.

May not show it the best, but just a sample of how other colors impact each other. Colors can brighten (white), darken (black), or intensify the contrast (silver) of the armor, and how mixing some colors seems to dull/mute the combination even if they aren't complementary colors.

Blue + purple + purple is nice on a few armors.
