Single hit - no skill? Warrior. The hammer hits for 19-35 which is the highest for a single hit.
Single skill on one target? Probably an axe warrior.
Single skill on multiple targets? Toss up between ranger and axe warrior.
However, damage is complicated subject. It depends on your weapon, your skill level for the weapon, the level of the foe, what armor they are wearing, and more.
Some people mentioned the axe and multiple hits. Max damage on axe and bow are both 28. The average on the bow is better with minimum the damage being 15 and the axe having a minimum damage of only 6. That puts the average for the bow at 21 and the axe at 17. If it were that simple? But no, now you have to figure in the level of strength for the warriror as that adds 1% of armor penatration per level. We could go on...
All that said, in the past all the computations done show the warrior with the highest damage per second over time. Period.

A ranger has its good points but in the same token a Warrior has theirs. As far as pure brute damage the Warrior beats out the ranger. If you want to talk subltiys then the ranger rules. It all depends on the build, a good build can mean the difference between ruling and beign ruled.I have played both classes, and they both are very good. Just choose how you like to fight. Long range the Ranger rules over a warrior. For close combat the Warrior wins hands down. It all comes down to your play style on how effective your class is.
